SSIS Import/Export Wizard: "Unexpected Unrecoverable Error"

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
For whatever reason, whenever the SSIS Import/Export Wizard needs to display an error message, it throws up "Unexpected Unrecoverable Error" instead. The three buttons - Abort, Retry, and Ignore - all cause the wizard to close. I see some activity in Process Monitor that looks like DTSWizard.exe is probing around for some System.Web assemblies, and not finding them. I'm running 2008 SP1 on Win 7 x86, and I've reinstalled the client tools and Integration Services. Anybody else seen this issue? Should I file a report on Connect?

Upgrade to SQL 2008 RS lost SSIS and ability to save Export/Import Wizard

About a month ago I upgraded from SQL Server 2005 Express to SQL Server 2008 R2.  The platform is a 2003 Server.  All was working well for about 3 weeks when last week I knoticed that I was unable to save an Import/Export Wizard that I just set up and opening up SSIS is no longer an option.  Should I simply re-install the software?  Any reason as to why it should have happened?  I deleted the installation of SQL Server Express 2005 after I sucessfully installed SQL Server 2008 R2.

sql server 2008 import/export wizard... completely useless??

import/export wizard in 2000 had lots of options.

I could copy databases without a care in the world. Including constraints, stored proc., AND the data, etc.

Now, with v2008, the wizard is dumbed down too much. It's a "stupid" copy function that fails on the first constraint it meets.

"Copy database.." is not an option here: it needs sysadmin on both source and destination server.

Re-adding the constraints manually is not an option either: the database is WAY too large.

I'm actually hoping there is a temporary bug in the import/export wizard. Each option (and you have THREE...) returns with a new error.

Googling, I found I am not alone:

This post is exactly my situation. Here's what his post says: (bolded key parts)

I'm trying to get used to sql server 2008 having been forced to upgrade by my isp. I need to back up my key db on a weekly remote schedule, so have been trying to use ssms to export data from my remote db to a local copy.

Firstly I created a new empty db on the local machine. Then I scripted the structure of the db on the remote machine and ran the resulting query on the local machin

Text was truncated with "nvarchar(max)" data type and size by using SSIS Import and Export Wizar

I am using SSIS Import and export Wizar to load data from Excel file, I have set the datatype as "nvarchar(max); those data are not biger than 1000 bits but was failed to transfer as the error says:

[Source - TreatmentPlans$ [1]] Error: The "output column "SchoolPlan" (57)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "SchoolPlan" (57)" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.

SQL Server Import/Export Wizard Crashes

Whenever I try to import or export data using SQL Server Import And Export Wizard, everything is great until I click on the "Finish" button.

The wizard gets to the "Setting Source Connection" step and at 0% complete, I get the message "SQL Server Import and Export Wizard Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close."  This happens every time I run the Wizard, whether it be from SSMS, BIDS, or the file manager.  It doesn't matter what type of database table/file I import to or export from.

If I select to Debug, I get this message:  "Windows Has Triggered A Breakpoint In DTSWizard.exe.  This may be due to a corruption of the heap, and indicates a bug in DTSWizard.exe or any of the DLL's it has loaded.  The output window may have more diagnostic information."  Here is the output:

'DTSWizard.exe': Loaded 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn\DTSWizard.exe', No symbols loaded.
'DTSWizard.exe': Loaded 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll', No symbols loaded.

Import and Export Data (32-bit) Wizard to Dump Data to Excel

I am trying to export some data from a simple three-column table on my SQL 2008 R2 instance to Excel 2007 (also happens in Excel 2003). Our data has a lot of foreign (Hebrew) characters on it and although the copy works ok, the data as it appears in Excel is gibberish.

The source table in SQL contains three columns:

  • smallint - numbers
  • varchar(30) - hebrew text
  • varchar(50) - hebrew text
  • varchar(15) - hebrew text

When I fire up the Import-Export wizard I see the following: http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1830/sqltable.png. When I click on the yellow warning for a conversion problem, I see this: http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/4255/conversion.png.

Do I need to modify the core SQL or change the data type? I already tried modifying the destination datatype to be varchar instead of LongText but that didn't help.

Any assistance would be fantastic!

Import and Export Wizard only imports few rows from excel

When I import data using Import and Export Wizard in Visual Studio 2008 for SQL Server 2000 DB from an Excel file, it only imports few rows and not all. It happens when I am appending to an existing table. The rows that are imported have correct data as I want it to be.

It imports fine when I import to a new table, which is created while importing. Is there any way I can make the Import and Export wizard to Append all the rows from an Excel file? Is it a bug in SQL Server? I am not sure. I am using a .xls file.

SQL Express R2 - Import / Export Data (32-bit) - Excel - Unexpected Unrecoverable Error

Preface - I'm BRAND NEW to SQL! Bought a book and working to learn :) I've have a lot of experience in Access and other msft titles.

I've installed SQL Express 64 bit on Win 7 (64) and I'm trying to setup my 1st table to start practicing running queries on and I’m having nothing but trouble!! I'm trying to use the import / export wizard to import Excel '07 spreadsheet that has a table of data and I CANNOT get through this without crashing! EVERY SINGLE TIME!

My Steps:

Sql Server 2008 import and export wizard is failing

Sql Server 2008 import and export wizard is failing with the message: \

The ‘DbProviderFactories’ section can only appear once per config file. (System.Configuration)

This wizard will close because it encountered the following error: (Microsoft SQL Server)

This happens when I hit the “Next” button on the initial import/export wizard startup screen.

The detailed error message is below.  Any ideas on the location of the configuration file that the change needs to be made to?

"SQL Server Import and Export Wizard" (SQL 2005) Excel & ISAM

When I run the “SQL Server Import and Export Wizard” (SQL 2005) on my laptop, I attempt to import an EXCEL file to a table.

If I try both Excel-2007 and Excel-2010 format files, I get the following error.

“The operation could not be completed” “Could not find installable ISAM. (Microsoft JET Database Engine)”

import/export wizard crashes on SQL Express 2008 R2 installed on Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have been getting "Unexpected Unrecoverable Error; Abort, Retry, Ignore" when using the SQL Import/Export Wizard in the following scenarios (these are the only two ways I have tried using the Wizard):

1) Source Advantage OLE DB Provider, destination SQL Server, copy tables

2) Source Microsoft Excel, destination SQL Server, copy tables, show report if there were any failures

I have run the SQL Setup Repair and still get the same behavior.  Are there known issues with SQL Express 2008 R2 on Windows 7 for Import/Export?

Thanks, David

stsadm export / import custom view / personal view views

Hi, i have to export and import a website with a sharepoint list including all personal views. The personal views are used by the endusers in excel data connections binded to the list.  Loss of personal views during import is not mentioned in the technet discription of export / import command ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766807(office.12).aspx  ) I am actually testing the export / import between two site collections, but always losing the personal views (MOSS 2007 with CU April 2010). This discussion had the same topic http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/4e299838-72c2-4f56-8dc3-05ba2a2999d9  but with no definite answer. Please tell me if this is by design or what could cause this behavior. Thanks in advance. Boris Boris Schlotthauer

How to export SSRS report to PDF from SSIS with parameters

Hello everyone.  I am trying to setup a process in which a user, who is using a vb.net 2008 application, will need to  trigger the creation of two items.  The first is  SSRS report which will need to be exported to PDF format to a shared folder on the network.  This report accepts one parameter.  The second thing that will need to be created at the same time is an excel file with data exported from SQL Server 2008 which is generated through an SSIS package.  A couple things to note.  The excel file and the pdf file need to have the same file name, other than the extension.  For example P00000001_20100831.pdf and P00000001_20100831.xlsx and will both be stored in the same network share.  The filenames need to be created dynamically at run time and will be based on a parameter being passed to the report. So far I have the portion that creates the excel file working fine.  The way I create that is as follows.  I have a stored procedure that creates a job which calls the SSIS package and passes the appropriate parameters to the SSIS package.  After the job is created I immediately run it and then delete the job.  Ok, everything works fine with that. Now I cant seem to figure out how to get the pdf created.  If possible I would like to keep this portion together with the already created job or package.&nb

Text truncated to 255 using SSIS ACE.oledbprovider to import excel 2007 spreadsheet

Hi All, Trying to use SSIS SQL 2005 to import an Excel 2007 file (.xlsx). I'm using Office 12.0 Access Database Engine OLEDB Provider with extended properties Excel 12.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1 The problem is when I have text with more than 255 characters. It basically defaults the source output to Unicode string[DT_WSTR] 255, If I change it it errors out. I have done the registry change according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141683.aspx but I think it only applies to Excel source not OleDb Source. (A Excel source does give me a text instead of string )   I have also tried to increasing the length of output such as 4000 instead of 255 but it doesn't allow either.   Anybody can help?I'm stuck for a day. Thank you very much for your help. Regards, Koala
