Cannot enable TCP/IP through the Configuration Manager

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi, I am using SQL Server 2008 sp1 Developer Edition.  The database engine service is running and the SQL browser service is running. It is set to allow remote connections. When I open SQL Server Configuration Manager and expand the SQL Server Network Configuration mode and select Protocols for <server name>, it shows Shared Memory as Enabled and all others as Disabled. If I right click on TCP/IP and select Enable, I get a warning stating that the changes will be saved but will not take effect until after I restart the service. When I click OK on the warning popup to close it, it still shows TCP/IP as Disabled. After I restart the service I return to the Protocols screen and check the value of TCP/IP. It is still Disabled. I am still unable to connect to it remotely. Configuration Manager is not allowing me to enable TCP/IP. I need to do this. I looked for an alternate way to enable TCP/IP but have not been able to find one that works.  Any thoughts?

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server Configuration Manager - Protocol Name is blank

When I run SQL Server Configuration Manager (2008) and click on SQL Server Network Configuration and then Protocols for SQL, the right side of the screen shows the protocol icons and their status, but the names (TCP/IP, Shared Memory, Named Pipes, etc) are not there. Can someone tell me how to get the names to display again? They used to show up. A thought is that I installed XP SP3 and that made them go away, but I can't prove that.

Getting "Provider load failure" from SSRS Configuration Manager (SQL 2008 R2 Hot Fix CU3 did not fix

After upgrading our SQL 2008 cluster to R2, SSRS on one node works fine, but the second node will not allow connection via the Configuration Manager (getting "Provider load failure").  We've done re-installs, repairs and applied Hot Fix CU3, but the issue remains. NOTE: It's understood that SSRS is not a clustered resource.  We have it installed as separate instances on each of the two cluster nodes.

SSRS 2008 configuration Manager - "Invalid Class"

Reporting Services Configuration Manager is throwing an error when I try to "Find" the server. The manager starts up and takes me to the "Reporting Services Configuration Connection" window. I click on the "Find" button (leaving the default comptuer name as-is; the local machine)  and get the error message "Invalid Class" with the title "Reporting Services Configuration Manager".

I've been searching around the interner and only found one forum post with a similar problem to my own. It was on this forum and the advice seemed to be pointing towards a problem with WMI, but it seemed that the user never found a solution. I've downloaded and ran the WMI diagnostics program and the log does contain quite a few warnings, but I don't know how to go about solving most of them. I did run regsvr32 on some dll files though :)

I won't post any logs yet, as I have no idea where the problem may be based. Please advise and I will post the required information.

Report Server Instance not shown in SQL 2008 R2 version for Configuration Manager

I am using Windows Server 2003. I have installed SQL Server 2005 and SQL 2008 R2 version in the machine. The sql server 2008 R2 version has the instance name as SQL2008R2

I am trying to configure "Reporting services Configuration Manager" for the SQL 2008 r2. I gave the machine name and hit the Find button, I am not able to get the Report server instance name.

But when I gave the server name, i am able to browse to the folders page in the Internet explorer. so the server is available . I gave like this in the IE, and I am able to see the page:

http://Server IP/Reports_SQL2008R2/Pages/Folder.aspx

In the eventvwr, I found the following errror "The Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.SQL2008R2\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config file failed to load. This error may occur if the XML is not valid. "

How to get the Report server instance name in the configuration manager.

Thank you

VS 2010: Configuration Manager: my ONLY choice is "Any PC"; no option for x86, x64

I'm on Windows 7, x64, with Visual Studio 2010.

I have an ASP.NET page with C#.  The C# makes a call to PowerShell, it fails, and every post I can find via Google says the solution is simple --- set your Target Build to x86.  Sounds awesome, except I can't.  My only choice is "Any PC", and even if I add a new configuration and call it "x86", I can't apply it to my Project.

SQL Express 2005 Configuration Manager - Cannot connect to WMI provider

Hi, when I go to the SQL Server Configuration Manager utility, the following error pops up :

Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager.
Access is denied. [0x80070005]

This is on a Windows 2003 SP1 server, and the database is an upgraded MSDE 2000 database. The database itself appears to be working OK. My application can connect to it, I can connect to it via sqlcmd, etc. (all locally). I'm logged on as an Administrator, so permissions shouldn't be a problem.

I ran FileMon to see which file it's complaining about, and it seems the culprit is sqlmgmprovider.dll. It's trying to access this .dll as Network Service. Just to check, I added Network Service to the .dll permissions and got a slightly different message :

Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager.
The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. [0x800736b1]

I now also get two errors in the event log :

How Do I Enable Inline GridView Editing?

Now that you have created a site with Edit and Details views, how do you enable inline editing in a GridView control? This video shows you how, and also touches on routing.

Gridview Enable Selection Problem

I have a gridview with Enable selection and Enable Paging equals to TRUE.

I also set the PageSize of my gridview to 4 so that I only displays 4 rows per page.

The problem is when I click the pager in the bottom of my gridview, my gridview is disappearing and no records appear.

Here is code behind of my gridview:

If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then
                e.Row.Attributes("style") = "cursor:pointer"

                e.Row.Cells(2).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(3).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(4).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(5).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))
                e.Row.Cells(6).Attributes.Add("onclick", Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(sender, "Select$" & e.Row.RowIndex.ToString))

browser gives jibberish when State manager (sql) is turned on

Hi all, we're testing our web app with a state manager so that we can do distributed rollouts. We're not getting any errors, but we are getting jibberish returned for every page request.

(it won't even let me paste it in here)

HOw do I get it to serve the pages normally?

ASP.NET Configuration not opening

I recently upgraded to VS 2010 and downgraded to SQL Server 2005. Now when I go Website > ASP.NET Configuration nothing happens.

It's likely this has to do with the fact that when I was installing SQL Server I got the 'ASP.net Version Registration requirement' warning, as well as the 'Failed to find the ASP.net Version Registration requirement with MS IIS'.

Anyone know what I need to get ASP.NET Configuration working?
