SQLCMD: Changed Database Context messages

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Is there a way to suppress the "Changed Database Context to " messages in SQLCMD?  For example, I get the following: 1> use master2> goChanged database context to 'master'.1>I am trying to migrate some legacy batch files that called isql and used the output files.  These extra "Changed Database Context to " messages are causing our scripts to break, and I was hoping to avoid having to write something extra to handle these messages.Thanks.

SQLCMD: supress "Changed database context to . . ."

Product:  2008 SQL Server Standard Edition. Shell:     SQLCMD (i.e. sqlcmd -i"test.sql")Script (test.sql):   use Master;   print $(SQLCMDERRORLEVEL)The screen output is always:   Changed database context to 'Master'   0However I want the above output to be (only):   0I have tried calling SQLCMD with the -m command line parameter set to each of the {-m-1, -m 0, -m 1} settings, but none work. I have tried: set SQLCMDERRORLEVEL = each of {-1,0,1,25), but none workAnybody know the secret? Thanks in advance,Jerry

messages from sqlcmd

Would someone please explain this behavior? I'm trying to understand why the messages are coming back the way they are in the following examples. Create a simple table to which we will be inserting some values. create table test_table ( col1 int ) Next, create a sql script that inserts a bunch of integers to the above table. insert into test_table values(1) insert into test_table_ values(2) insert into test_table_ values(3) insert into test_table_ values(4) And save this file. I saved it as c:\dba\admin\test_script.sql Next, run this script from a command window using sqlcmd as follows. sqlcmd -S <your_server> -d <your_db> -i c:\dba\admin\test_script.sql   What message do you get back in the command window? I get "(1 rows affected)" for the first insert statement in the script, but nothing about the other 3 inserts. However, when I select from the table, I do see that all 4 insert statments happened. So, why am I seeing an incomplete message? Now, for the heck of it, I put a "GO" between the insert statements in test_script.sql like so. insert into test_table values(1) go insert into test_table values(2) go insert into test_table values(3) go insert into test_table values(4) Now, run the sqlcmd again like so, sqlcmd -S <your_server> -d <your_db> -i c:\dba\admin\test_script.sql What messages do you get? I get 4 lines of

How to Send SMS Messages from C# using an SQL Database

In this article, I give you an example of how you can send SMS messages to wireless devices from C# .NET. I assume, that you are familiar with Visual Studio 2003 or 2005 and the basics of databases and the SQL language. The solution described here is an in-house solution. To use it, you need a GSM Modem for sending SMS messages.

The system architecture used for SMS messaging consists of a GSM Modem, that is attached to the PC with a phone-to-PC datacable, an SQL-SMS Gateway software installed onto your PC, an SQL database server, such as SQL Express or Microsoft SQL and your SMS application (Figure 1). As you can see in the figure, your SMS application will create an SQL record in the database. The SMS gateway will poll this record using an SQL SELECT statement and will send it using a GSM modem.

Is a database online when it is changed from full to simple recovery model?

We have some databases that occaisally have very large ldf files and I have learned that the best way to shrink the ldf file is to change the backup mode to simple, shrink the log file, convert it back to full and do a full database backup so that the log file backups will run again. My question is during this process is the database available to the end users? When you guys do this do you feel it is nessesary to let the end users know or will they not notice what is going on?

Thanks! Kevin

Retrieving changed/updated data from all tables in database

I'm looking for some advise on how I could solve the problem I face, I have various instances of sqlexpress 2005 in different remote locations which are not accessible via internet vpn etc as they are all in corporate networks that will not allow access. What I think I need to do is create some sort of process/service that can be installed on the client and run at a set time/date that collects all the data from theses instances and then push the changes to our remote instance of sql server. Can anyone possibly point me in the right direction of various technologies I should be looking into to solve this problem. All clients would be running windows XP. I have been searching for a few day's but I can't find anything to get me going. If this is not the right forum for this type of question can you suggest any?

Thank you.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).
