Search server 2010 setup - error creating search service application

I am running in a very similar siutation as this post:

I am configuring a new Search Server 2010 production environment.

I used the search setup account to run the setup and run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard.

During the first run of the SharePoint configuration wizard (where the farm account and service applications are setup), the process failed because the search service application could not be created.

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: User does not have permissiont to perform this action.

I was under the assumption that the setup account had securityadmin and dbcreator SQL Server roles.  However, this was not the case and I had them added.  My original thought was the setup failed because of this.  After those roles were added, I tried to recreate the search service application and I still get a failure.

I am pretty sure I have followed the prerequisites as prescribed by Microsoft in terms of account setup (

Profile Service Application Setup

I am running SharePoint 2010 in a farm environment.  I have 2 app servers and 3 web front ends.    I want to have the profiles running on 2 servers.  Does anyone know of a best way to do this.    If I reboot the app server, trying to get to profiles throws an error...    "Internal server error exception"   The way we have our MOSS farm setup is user access the web front ends and we can reboot index server at anytime and no one is ever affected...    I want to do the same setup.

How can I load balance the profiles or atleast have them on 2 servers in case one goes down.

Setup for client application

Which Software or which projekt type in VS 2010 can be recommended for the following requirements:

- Installation of a client application
- target systems are: XP, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003 + 2008 (both 32-bit and 64-bit)
- user need to give some input:
          - name, company, path for installation, path for data storage (configuration, temp files, etc.)
          - serial number (should be checked by own code, preferrable in c# or InstallShield script)
- there will be about 30 files for the application and the size is about 40 MB

Just for better understanding: The application will use a database (this is already installed on the user system).

Is the MSI-project in VS 2010 good enough? Or maybe the InstallShield LE (free vor VS 2010)? Or is a full InstallShield needed?
Or some complete other software?

What would you recommend? And which should definately not be used because of limitations?

Thanks in advance!

How to setup SP so that a form does not open in the end user's application?

I was wondering if anyone knows how in WSS 3.0 to set it up to where when you click on New and choose the form it opens up in the web and does not use the end user's application.  The end result is we have a Excel spreadsheet that we would like to be where the users can open it from a smart phone with out Excel running on it.  Thanks for any help rendered.

how to connect a server whiole installing a windows application setup?

During installation the Application will be setup to communicate with a particular server, and prompt the user to supply an Account Number and Password which will be used to retrieve that client’s details from the Internal Application. Therefore the computer onto which the Client Application is being installed must be online during installation. As the installation may not occur without these details, the screen requesting the Account Number and Password could be the first screen after the introduction screen. Installation may not precede without connectivity or the retrieved client details.

During installation a printer selection screen must also be displayed, where the user may select,

The thermal printer  and the dot matrix printer (for bulk printing, if relevant).

PC’s, onto which the application will be installed, will be locked with software prior to the application being installed on it. Thi

C# Application DynDNS support without router setup (port forwarding)

Hi to all!

I'm not too experienced with networking and I have a request for my application that i'm not sure how to implement.

My client want's to be able to connect to his office machine from his home using the remote desktop. Now, that wouldn't be a problem if it was one machine connected directly to the internet. But it's most often a LAN in the office and he wants to be able to connect to the one where my application is installed on. Now, I know about port forwarding on the router to dispatch connections to specific machine but I was wondering if there is some way to circumvent router setup?

I was wondering how MSN or Skype work? For example, i have MSN&Skype installed on several machines on my LAN and all of them work properly without any router setup so there must be some way of doing this.

Obviously, i would program a little server routine that my application would notice every so often about its current IP address (but that's routers IP address, not the specific machines one).

Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

How to setup a server/client application?

I am not a IT guy but interested in SQL since it is popular in Industrial application.

So it is an good idea for me to start with SQL 2005 Express, which is free.

I downloaded some components from this website but don't know how to use.

Long story short, my question is:

If I have two laptops, or one laptop with VMware, how to setup a SQL server and a client so client can read/write from/to the database(server)?

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

Integrating a Legacy Web Application in SharePoint

This month we will continue with the theme of deploying Microsoft's SharePoint as a company intranet by describing a method for integrating a legacy Web application inside a SharePoint site.

In many companies the intranet site is not just a home page with announcements. It houses Web applications used by many different departments. In last month's article, I built a page to search the employee table in Northwind (the sample database included in Microsoft's SQL Server). This month, I will move the Web pages used to add/remove records from the table into the SharePoint intranet.

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

High-Performance .NET Application Development & Architecture

It has always been a goal of project architects to plan an effective strategy from the ground up in regards to an new application. All relevant factors are taken into consideration with respect to the application, from its design and layout to a functional website infrastructure. Pre-.NET strategies and design guidelines still effective now were developed with Microsoft's DNA (Distributed interNet Application) platform. This model successfully served the purpose of architecting N(any number of)-Tier (levels) applications. In its basic sense, as in most robust, distributed applications, you'll architect 3 main layers or Tiers: presentation, business rules and data access.

Application architecture in asp .net

Application Architecture is the most important process of developing a good application. Some people tends to jump into coding without any architecture laid. Later we see those people changing the architecture and finally the application had to be developed from the scratch with the correct architecture.

In this article I will describe some details about how you can improve the architecture of you application. This article is targeted to the beginner's audience.

Improving Application Performance in .Net

Application performance has always been a concern for Web Application developers. This article contains guidelines and tips for maximizing application performance in ASP.NET.

Logic behind N -Tier Application Development

In the arena of application development, developers all over the world use various programming languages, technical processes, and technical tools. While using number of technical & non technical elements the processes or methods become complex, for simplification of the application development process, developers use various techniques such as dividing the application architecture into layers or parts. In the professional & technical language this separation or division process is called N-Tier Application Development process, where "N" stands for number and "tire" stands for layers or parts.
