VB2008 Express and SQL Server CE 3.5 private deployment issues

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Windows Forms application developed with VB 2008 Express.
Using private deployment as described in SQL Server Books Online.
Deploying SQL CE version 3.5.8080.0.
Development system is 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 version 6.1.7601.65536.
System installed SQL CE version is 3.5.8080.0.

For several months of development there have been no issues with this setup.  A month or so ago I began getting an occasional error message while making updates to the application in the development environment.  The message dialog would come in waves of three several minutes apart and would subside once I rebuilt the project.  The error message is "Unable to load the native components of SQL Server Compact corresponding to the ADO.NET provider version 8080".
The application uses a designer generated DataSet.  While trying to add an additional TableAdapter from the DataSet to the main form the above mentioned error dialog, for which I would click OK, would try to prevent changes from being made.  After several design environment restarts and restoring the impacted form.Designer.vb and .resx files I could finally complete making changes in the form designer.

The changes in the designer were not carried over into the

SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 - installation issues

I'm receiving an error 11055 while trying to install SP3.  I've tracked the problem down to probably being the one described here , but unfortunately cannot follow the steps described there to resolve the problem as the tool they require has apparently been removed because it can damage installations.  Does anyone know another way of fixing this issue?

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express License For Deployment

I know that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express is free for download, but can i deploy it to client side for business purpose? Is there any license purchase required?

New Windows 7 compuer with SQL Server 2008 Express - permission issues

I avoided Vista because of the overbearing security issues but I put Windows 7 Ultimate on my new computer. I really like it so far except for 2 big issues. I won’t go into VPN nightmare I’m having here but the other is that for the first time ever I’m having lots of SQL Server permission issues. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, I run SSMS as an administrator how can I get full rights on my SQL Server as I had in XP where I could create files anywhere?

The first issue I had was that I couldn’t install the AdventureWorkLT DB because I didn’t have create permissions (that is bizarre default) but I got around that by granting Full Control to the Data folder.

Now I’m having another problem that I cannot solve. I cannot even export a SQL Query to a file. I get an “unrecoverable error” popup. Here is what is in event viewer but if click the link in event viewer the suggestions of how to fix it does not work.

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Web Deployment with IIS settings of remote server

Im trying to deploy a web application project (VS 2010) via team build (TFS 2010), i got to use IIS settings of development server for deployment. So from the project properties I configured the web projects to use Custom web server, (enabled radio button), once i do this the Option in the tab Package/Publish Web "Include all IIS Settings as configured in IIS manager" gets disabled and as a result the deployed web project does not have this IIS settings.

What am I missing here, Im not using the option "Use local IIS Web Server" because the build happens in a build server and would try to take local IIS settings for packaging which is not present.

If this is not possible, suggest me any workaround. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Active Server Pages+: ASP+ Improves Web App Deployment, Scalability, Security, and Reliability

ASP has been rebuilt from the ground up. The result? Active Server Pages+. ASP+, with a host of new features, provides for easier to write, cleaner code that's simple to reuse and share. ASP+ boosts performance and scalability by offering access to complied languages; development is more intuitive thanks to Web Forms; and an object-oriented foundation facilitates reuse. Other important features include page events, Web Controls, and caching. Server Controls and improvements in data binding are also new with ASP+. Libraries for use with ASP+, and the Microsoft .NET Framework which allows custom business functions to be exposed over the Web, provide more new development opportunities.

Migrating aspnet tables to dev server - having issues

We're trying to migrate a one of our apps to our dev server for testing and development, but we're having problems with the membership functionality. We can add users, but there seems to be a disconnect with roles. We can query the aspnet_users table and find the new user in there, but when we query the aspnet_usersinroles table, that user id is not present.

We're also unable to run the Roles.GetUsersInRole("somerole") method. It returns 0 records. When I run Roles.ApplicationName, it returns the correct name, so .NET should be passing the correct app name.

We're just a little baffled. If anyone could shed some light on what could be the issue, we would appreciate it.

Thanks! :)

How to connect to local instance of SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express ?

I just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.

i tried connecting to local machine using :

.\sqlexpress, (local)\sqlexpress, or .\SQLExpress, MyPCNAME\SQLExpress

nothing is working, getting this error:

Cannot connect to PC-NAME\SQLEXPRESS. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

setup/deployment issues

I have built an installation (MSI) for a project I'm designing. I'm using Visual Studio 2008.  Mostly it works fine; however, I have two issues:

1) for some reason, it insists on installing .NET 3.5, even though all the projects within the install use .NET 2.0. Is this because the installer requires 3.5? If so, I guess I can live with it.

2) I want one of the programs to run on startup, and actually, it does. I assigned the Primary Output of the program to the User's startup folder. HOwever, the install also copies the .config file to startup; so it launches it notepad, leaving the user looking at a config file they obviously shouldn't be seeing.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

Can't Create ODBC to Local SQL Server Express 2008

Hello. I have SQL Server Express 2008 SP1 LOCALLY on my Windows XP Professional SP3 box. I have databases already created in Access 2007 that I imported into SQL. Now I want to keep the front end Access forms for data entry but have them connect to the databases in SQL. What I can't seem to do is connect from Access to the SQL db's because I can't create the ODBC connection. When I try to connect, I get the following two 'Connection failed' errors: 1. SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 10061 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. 2. SQLState: 'HYT00' SQL Server Error: 0 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Login timeout expired Additionally, this information may help. 1. Windows firewall is turned off. 2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Server Network Configuration > Protocols for SQLEXPRESS, Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP are all 'Enabled'. The order is Shared Memory (1), Named Pipes (2) and TCP/IP (3). 3. In SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration > Client Protocols, the above three are also 'Enabled'. The order is Shared Memory (1), Named Pipes (2) and TCP/IP (3). Double-clicking TCP/IP tells me that the default port is 1433. 4. Running "netstat -ano", I see no entries for [myIPaddress]:1433.

How do I get SQL-DMO installed on a SQL Server 2005 Express Client computer?

Multiple XML files into SQL SERVER Express 2005

Hello. I am familiar with classic ASP and use this with MS SQL SERVER EXPRESS. I have an SQL table and want to import multiple XML files into this on a daily basis. I currently have 3 files, transferdata.vbs which loops through the XML files. FAQschema.xml which maps XML to the SQL database and test.xml shows the xml in the test file. If I run transferdata.vbs I get the following error "Error opening the data file" line 33 char 3. Microsoft Bulkload for SQL Server". My SQL table is called EnqOrd id (int), Debitor (varchar), PurchaseDate (varchar)     transferdata.vbs set objBL = CreateObject("SQLXMLBulkLoad.SQLXMLBulkLoad") objBL.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=XXXXXX\XXXXX; Initial Catalog=XXXX; User ID=XXXXX; Password=XXXXXX" objBL.ErrorLogFile = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\error.log" ' Here is the path to your XML files Const path = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\XML\" Dim Text, Title, oFile Dim fso, oFolder, oFiles, wsh ' Object variables Text = "Folder " Title = "XML Files" Set wsh = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Create FileSystemObject object to access the file system. Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") ' Get Folder object. Set oFolder = fso.GetFolder(wsh.ExpandEnvironmentStrings(path)) ' Get All Files Set oFiles = oFolder.

Facing MSDTC related issues while archiving data from one database server machine to another databas

I have a question with respect to distributed transactions when carried out between two database server machines on the same network.   Consider there are two database server machines \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ and \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\. Now we have to archive the data from one database server to other database server.   Let us suppose the database server \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ is the live production database server and \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\ is Long term storage database server. Now data from \SOURCE_DATABASE_SERVER\ needs to be archived into the database server \DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\.   So I have written a dynamic stored procedure which includes distributed transaction (begin Tran, commit Tran, rollback            Tran) coding in it.   Now initially when I executed the procedure, it gave some of the following errors   1) OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "\DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\" returned message "The partner transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "\DESTINATION_DATABASE_SERVER\" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
