Oulook.exe hangs when Domain User launches application through Interop windows 2003 sp2

Hello,I have a problem using Interop.Outlook on a win2k3 sp2 server. For windows 2003 version prior to sp1 i could use a specific identity for application pool and i had no problems launching outlook.User was authenticated and delegated correclty. With sp2 the Outlook.exe process is launched by the domain user specified as identity (also visible on Task Manager Processes) but no exception or time out is ever thrown.  The only way that i can make this to work is when i set impersonate=true in web config (without setting userName and password as this would have exactly the same affect with the application pool identity). Are there any permissions that i can set to overcome this?Help would be greatly appreciated. Sql 2008 on Windows 2008 domain error: windows nt user or group not found

I am running sql 2008 R2 and win 2008 R2 and simply trying to add a new domain user into sql, but I get the error above. What's weird is that when I do a check names from the add user or group window it finds the account I want to use. I've tried adding a different account, but I get the same issue--so its not the account. I've also tried running the create login t-sql command but it gives the same error. I've also tried disabling, via the gpedit.msc tool, the digitally encrypt or sign secure channel keys. But that did not work either.

=User!UserID from windows authentication using table from another database

i'm using sql server 2005, sql server business intelligence development studio for my reports and deploy them in my wss3.0 site.

what i'm trying to do is i'm trying to restrict wich users can see specific data within a report.

now, the thing is. the report gets the data out of my DB1 database and my windows authenticated user are in the WSS_content database.

when i deploy my report in my wss3 site. it gets the user that is loged in. but of course it does not display any data because the tables are not in the same database.

does someone knows how to do this?

Adding Current Windows User to Database Encounters Existing User with Same Login

In VS2008 in debug mode, I am using SMO to programatically change the users and permissions on a database. Windows authentication alone is being used. I need to limit access to a administrators group and the current user for whom the database has been dynamically created during the first run of the application within their current Windows environment on the machine. I have no problems creating and assigning the administrators group, but when I try to create the user using the environment's UserDomainName and UserName variables (which would be my creditals) I encounter an inner exception "The login already has an account under a different user name". Before doing running the app, I manually have checked the local server for user and logins with my credentials and programatically looked at each login but have not found any matching credentials.

Insights and suggestions appreciated.

Authenticate from a windows app to sql on a non-trusted domain?

We have a client application that will run in Domain1 (user logs in as Domain1\User1) and they need to connect to SQL as Domain2/User2.   Domain 1 and 2 don't have a trust relatonship.

Is there a way to pass through the domain2/user2 credentials from the client app to the sql server so sql server will authenticate correctly?

Which Domain Controller is SQL Server using for trusted windows authentication?

We are migrating from Windows Server 2003 domain controllers to Server 2008 Domain controllers.  I want to be able to know which domain controller a SQL server is using for authentication, so I can verify that the 2008 Domain Controllers are working, before we take down the 2003 domain controllers permanently.

I also read something about possibly setting a preferred DC?

Please advise

Windows Authentication - Different Domain

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to connect via SQL Server Management Studio to a server sitting on a separate domain. So here is the situation. there is Server B which sits in a domain called DomainB. If I am in DomainA, I could typically remote into that server utilizing an IP address in DomainB, and even transfer files to that server. But how do I connect via SQL Server Management Studio(basically login as a different domain user) to Server B in DomainB from DomainA. Basically when I choose Windows Authentication from the dropdown list in SQL Server Management Studio, it grays out the username field, which is where I could type something like this domainB\usernameondomainB, similar to how you would connect to a share on that server. Please let me know if there is a possibly solution to this. Also, our customer doesnot allow SQL Server Auth/Logins, so that is not an option. Thanks.

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink

No ASPNET User in Windows Server 2008?

I have been looking everywhere online regarding this, but have not found a clear answer.

I have an ASP.Net app running on Windows Server 2008, it's basically a reporting app using Crystal Reports. I have encountered a roadblock in regards to rendering some pages. When I run the app in Visual Studio(on the same 2008 machine) everything works perfectly. Yet when I publish it and run it live the reports will not display correctly, I get a message saying Failed to render page.

I looked this error up in the Crystal Reports website and the fixes they have there refer to giving the windows "aspnet" user full access rights to certain folders on the machine. I would be happy to do this, however there is no aspnet user in Windows Server 2008.

I installed the server and set its role to be Web Server. I also checked all the options regarding ASP.Net and IIS 6 compatibility. Yet there is no ASPNET username anywhere.

Did I set the server up wrong? or do I have to do something within ASP.Net to  create this user and then give it rights?
