Logshipping - Restore fails - missing .tuf file

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :
I have had successful log shipping enabled on SQL 2005, SP3 on server A and B.  I had to remove secondary db to load localized reports, and when I try to re-enable or even reconfigure Log Shipping from scratch, the .tuf file is not being created in the backup and copy folders with the log files, therefore the trn files are skipped and cannot be applied.  I have completed similar steps on alternate SQL 2005 boxes  with SP3 Hot Fix 4 producing similar results.

Missing tmpF7.tmp file

I am missing the tmpF7.tmp file that prohibits the uninstall of net programs. I tried finding the uninstaller recommended in an earlier post but the link no longer works. Basically I need to have the tmpF7.tmp file in order to install/uninstall .net software. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have a requirement that a user can upload as many files as he wish. So i am dynamically generating <input type="file"... and embedding them into form tag, Once user clicks submit button. I see that nothing is uploaded to aspx page. The post data looks like this   -----------------------------19718198955447 Content-Disposition: form-data; name=""; filename="" Content-Type: application/octet-stream You can see that the filename is blank and file content is not posted.   I have set the enctype of my form to 'multipart/form-data', but still the problem persists.   Can someone tell me whats the issue here?    suneeelid2000@gmail.co

attempting to restore to a new DB and it keeps trying to save the mdf file as the original mdf file

This is using SQL Server 2005. I've had several problems and this is where I've ended up. 1. Despite the claim that this will create a new DB it doesn't.  I was getting errors about the new DB not having the specified logical file name (despite the new DB not existing).  At the time I was specifying the logical file name as it appeared in the backup. 2. if I manually create the DB I still get the error as above unless I manually change the logical file name via sql management studio.  This is meant to be an automated solution so that is not accceptable. 3. I am now giving it the logical file name of the DB that I want to restore onto (if it doesn't exist I create it), but now it's trying to save the file with the old physical file name, which is absolutely *not* what I want. My instincts tell me I need to change the logical file name in the database I'm wanting to restore onto, but I don't know how to do this via SMO.  All of the explanations I've seen are through the SQL Management Studio and that is not acceptable as this needs to be an automated solution. I have copy/pasted the code from the msdn examples verbatim changing only the dbName and the .bak file location and it has consistently failed. Here is the code in it's current incarnation. var serverName = @"myServer"; var dbName = "MIQDesignTest3"; var backupFileN

Error in RESTORE in LOG FILE. Anyway to exclude it?

I'm trying to install a database (on a SQL Server 2008 machine) with test data sent by a partner company in the form of a .BAK file. (Version of SQL Server they are using unknown). I'm using this script: Use Master RESTORE DATABASE XEMS FROM DISK = 'C:\temp\xemstest6-29.bak' WITH REPLACE, MOVE 'XEMS' TO 'E:\XEMS DATABASE\XEMS.MDF', MOVE 'XEMS_Log' TO 'E:\XEMS DATABASE\XEMS_Log.LDF' The Restore process churns for a while, then I get: Processed 2576 pages for database 'XEMS', file 'XEMS' on file 1. Processed 5 pages for database 'XEMS', file 'XEMS_log' on file 1. Msg 3283, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 The file "XEMS_log" failed to initialize correctly. Examine the error logs for more details. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. At this point the database is unusable - trying to do anything with it produces an error indicating the database is still in a Restore state. There is some problem with the LOG portion of the backup, which I really don't need anyway. I'd like to just NOT restore the log. Came across this article which seemed to refer to the exact problem I'm having...  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915385/en-us They offered this suggestion: "Use the WITH NO_LOG clause during the restore process." However - in checking the RESTORE syntax.... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr

Restore MDF file only from bak file

Hello Friends i want to know that whether there is any provision in SQL Server 2008 to restore MDF file only from the bak file excluding the log file. i just want to know because, the bak file which i have is close to 4-5 GB, but after specifying the details while restoring the database, then it is consuming close to 80 GB as 30GB for the MDF file or 50 GB for log file. But say for once, the total hard disk is 80 GB. all the given figures are approximate except for Hard Disk size. in that case, i only want to extract the MDF file while excluding the LOG file for the database to attach. Looking for favorable replies.

SQL 2005 Server export to Foxpro fails by "default codepage missing"

Hi, I just tried to apply the foxpro driver VFPOLEDBSetup.msi to import and export an old format dbf. First of all no other method is available in this case, as one of the dbf-tables holds about 9 million rows. I don't want to (manually) go to excel and wait for 10 years importing it there, then only to discover i need another 10 years to get it into sql server.   Here's my task at hand: Source: street/housenumber database with approx 9 million rows Task:  Convert it to SQL server database (import DTS)           Change some data Export it back to DBF format. I don't have any problems acting on the first two steps (dts import to SQL 2k5 and changing data) I doooo have some problems with the last part. As soon as i define the DTS through the wizzard, it leaves the "CodePage" blank. However, upon executing it i receive some warnings and finally errors: On the "Setting Destination Connection" action in the final execution progress window: - Setting Destination Connection (Warning) Messages Warning 0x80202066: Destination - housenum [40]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the co

Opening a PowerPoint presentation fails with error "invalid path or file name".

When you go to a Document Library and try to open the presentation, PowerPoint opens, but then you get the error "The path or file name for "file URL" is invalid.  Please check that the path and file name are correct."I installed MOSS/WSS SP2 about 2 weeks ago, this happened once or twice before then, but I now know of about a half-dozen presentations that won't open. There is a way to get the file to open, if you hit the drop-down next to the file and select Send To and Download a Copy, you can save or open it from there. If you try browsing to if from within PowerPoint, it won't open either, and will also not open in Explorer View.  We have replaced the file, saved as a different name, etc. with no luck.Using both IE 7 and IE 8 and both XP Pro and Vista Business workstations.Any ideas out there? Thanks,Rusty

SQL2005 Express Install fails with advisory that .NET 2.0 is either corrupt or missing

I am trying to install SQLExpress 2005 adv on an XP Pro SP2 machine standalone and keep on getting the same error -- "SQL setup has detected a problem with Microsoft .Net Framework installation and cannot proceed. Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 is either not installed on this system or is corrupt."I have uninstalled/reinstalled .Net 2.0 some many time that I think it come close to the population of China. Still the same message. I had no problems on a different machine so I cloned that Hard drive, re-activated the software and tried on this machine. Still the same problem. I know what you are thinking, it must be machine related. Both machine have identical hardware from motherboard, Bios, peripherals, memory, Hard drives, CDROM and DVD drives. I took the failed HD and put it in the machine that installed correctly and the same thing happened - the install failed with the same message.I used "installer" to check the install info -- Both .Net 1.1 and 2.0 show up properly.I ran MSIZAP !G to get rid of orphans.I uninstalled SQLExpress. Cleaned the registry. ran the clwireg-x86.exe, removed both .Net 1.1 and 2.0 several times. Blew the hard drive away sevral times and restarted from scratch.Still the same perfectly useless message.Any help would be appreciated at this stage.Motherboard is Asus P5QL/EPU, 2.5 gHz Intel P43 Quad core, 4 G DDR2, 160 SATA WD

TDE disabled and service restarted but still can't restore a new backup file

Hello, I disabled TDE on my dev database because we determined no personally identifiable info will be stored.  Disabling was done like so:Then I created a backup of MyDB database and tried to restore on a different server instance on my same machine (using SSMS) and I get  the following error: ALTER DATABASE MyDB SET ENCRYPTION OFF GO use MyDB go drop database encryption key go use master go DROP certificate DevCert GO DROP MASTER KEY GO Afterwards, I ran the following query to ensure there are no encrypted databases, and it returns zero rows: SELECT DB_NAME(database_id) AS dbname, encryption_state, case encryption_state   WHEN 0 THEN 'Unencrypted (no database encryption key present)'   WHEN 1 THEN 'Unencrypted'   WHEN 2 THEN 'Encryption in Progress'   WHEN 3 THEN 'Encrypted'   WHEN 4 THEN 'Key Change in Progress'   WHEN 5 THEN 'Decryption in Progress'   ELSE CAST(encryption_state AS varchar(20)) END AS encryption_state, key_algorithm, key_length FROM sys.dm_database_encryption_keys Then I created a backup of MyDB database and tried to restore on a different server instance on my same machine (using the SSMS) and I get the following fatal error: The media family on device 'c:\Program Files\...\Backup\TDE_removed_from_db.bak' is incorrectly formed.  SQL Server cannot process this media family.

Need to restore MDF or LDF file from BAK without creating database.

I need to restore the actual MDF or LDF files within a BAK file without creating/restoring to another database. I just need the physical MDF or LDF files only. Is there a way to do this?
