I have just installed VS 2010 Pro and I already have SQL Server 2008 all on Windows 7 Pro. My db instance is set up for remote connections and I have enabled both Named Pipes and TCP/IP. I've opened my firewall to 1433 and UDP 1434 for SQL Browser.
From VS 2010, in Server Explorer I'm able to connect to my instance and a database just fine however when I try to add a new SQL item to my project in Solution Explorer it throws the error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configure to allow remote connections.
(provider: Shared Memory Provider, error:40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
Why is it forcing the connection through Shared Memory? But also, why am I able to make a connection just fine elsewhere?
Thanks for any assistance,
