Running Win 7 Ultimate and in the process of installing upgrades I keep getting a the SQL Server 2005 SP4 (KB246332) upgrade failure with the following Error Code D56.  It also says that if this upgrade is not installed my HOTMAIL will quit running.  So my alternate email address is lsaenz5@comcast.net  I also tried installing the SQL server upgrade I downloaded from the similar questions and it also failed.  I turned off my AV software (ESET) during the attempt.

Moving a Copy of SQL Report Server 2005 and Upgrade to 2008

Hello, We have SQL 2005 Report Server in a Windows 2003 64 bit server box. We want to create a copy of this report server database somewhere in the domain, so that we can access it for a different purpose. My question is, will there be any complications with this? I'm thinking about the encryption key that's needed to access the database. If we are successful with this, we might also want to upgrade to SQL 2008. Thanks for your help,   Elizabeth K.

Slow sql-server after upgrade from SQL-Server 2005 x64 standard to SQL-Server 2008 R2 x64 enterprise

We moved our databases to new hardware today (using copy database wizard)

The new hardware should be better than the old one.

We went from 28 GB ram to 128 GB.

We went from 16 cores to 32 cores (with even more cache etc.). We also moved from external SAN with 40 disks to intern disks (8 Samsung SS805 100gb ssd slc)

According to our own metrics we could get twice the IO using IO m

Upgrade from SQL Server 9.0.2047 (Express 2005 SP1 I believe) to SP3

I am running the version of SQL I listed in the title and like I said, I believe it is SQL Express 2005 SP1 and I just want to upgrade to SP3.  I tried installing it via Microsoft Update, but that failed without giving me any detail as to why.  When I try to run the SQL Exp 2005 SP3 installer (SQLEXPR.EXE) it just acts like it is going to install a new instance of it.

I saw a post about an unattended upgrade, but frankly I'm not very familiar with that and not really comfortable with doing it.  Is there not an installer I can run that will just upgrade to SP3?

Thanks to anyone who can provide some assistance for me, I appreciate it.

How do I upgrade and overlay SQL Server 2005 Express with SQL Server 2008 R2

We are upgrading SQL server2005 Express to SQL Server 2008 R2.  We want to replace 2005 Express with 2008 R2 on existing system.  We have lots of questions about how to perform the upgrade safely and pull in our existing databases.  The existing database files are in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1.  Also, we'll want to use the existing instance name to avoid having to reconfigure all of the installed clients at our user's workstations.

Should we uninstall the 2005 Express version first?  Will that keep the existing databases on the system?

Or can we install 2008 R2 while the databases are live under the 2005 Express, or should we shut down 2005 Express first?

Will  2008 R2 use the same data folder or create a new one?  If it uses the same folder will it automatically recognize our existing databases?  If it creates a new one, I suppose we can use the migration Wizard.

Thanks for any help....

Linked server issue on test box, post upgrade 2005 to 2008 R2

In an effort to do some testing prior to upgrading our environment to 2008 R2, I made a test instance on our Dev box.  2005 instance, copied as many things as I could think of from various other instances.  Made a basic linked server to our main cluster, had a repeating job to email me results of a query across that link every few hours.

Everything was working fine until the upgrade finished.  It completed at ~7pm.  The email at 6PM came through fine (while the upgrade was in progress), the email at 8pm didn't come through.  Checked various things (DB mail was still working, tested fine).  It couldn't access the data across the linked server.  I tried deleting that link and remaking it.  Errors out.  Tried running the same scripts we use to create our standard linked servers, error out.  The only ones that I can set up and function are links to other instances on the same box.

I've looked around at other fixes for this error message and none seem to make any difference.  Log in with Domain cred's, log in with the sa account, no difference.  I can connect from other instances & servers back to this one, just not outbound from this one.  And it worked prior to the upgrade I applied to it.  All other instances on the box are 2005 as well.

Here is the message I ge

SQL Server 2005 - Maintenance Jobs take a long time after OS Upgrade

We have SQL 2005 Ent Edition (SP2) on W2k3 R2 Ent Edition. This OS was previously on Std Edtion and we had done an In-Place upgrade to Ent Edition some time back. Since then the Maintenance plans - Update Stas & Index Rebuild seem to take double the time to execute. I do believe this could be due to an already busy disk subsystem (RAID 5 array).

Can someone pls advice what could be possible reason for this sudden increase in the maintenance job execution time.

Unable to upgrade from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 due to Reporting Server check failure

Hi all,

We were trying to upgrade our SQL Server 2005 tp SQL Server 2008, and bumped into some problem with the reporting server check.

Here were the environmental details:
- Windows Vista SP2 32-bit
- SQL Server 2005 (v 9.0.3077)
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor v 10.00.1600.22

While performing the Microsoft SQL Server Upgrade Advisor, it reported these problems on the Reporting Service:
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSVDIRSEXIST
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSIPADDRESSRESTRICTIONS
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSCLIENTCERTIFICATES
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSUSESIIS5

When installing & configuring MOSS 2007 the default settings were choosen. So now when we try to access the SSMS I get a message "The evaluation period has expired. Please buy the product at the following url.". I do have a product key for SQL Server 2008 standard but when I am trying to perform a edition upgrade it doesn't detect the SQL Server Instance "OFFICESERVERS" so I am unable to upgrade the server. Because of the limitation in size we are unable to create new doc libraries or pages on the SP site.

Here are the details of the environment:

OS : Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 64-bit

MOSS 2007 version :, Current License : Office SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License

Database : SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 32-bit

Upgrade from Win Server 2003R2 to 2008R2 breaks SQL 2005 Reporting Services

Upgraded a 64-bit Xeon server (domain controller) from WinSvr2003R2 EE to WinSvr2008R2 EE, no problems with the upgrade process -- AD is functioning as it should.  However, an instance of SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services that was installed on the server now fails with "Error -- The underlying connection was closed:  Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel."

This is an internal site; access is via http on port 80, no SSL.  I assume that the "secure channel" referred to is between the WinSvr2008R2 server and the SQL Server box that houses the database, but I'm not really sure.  In poking around for a solution I was inspired to reinstall the existing SSL cert on the new server, but that didn't help.  There is no cert installed on the database box, but until the upgrade it worked fine.  I've tried a couple of recommended tweaks to the config files for the report server and its web services, no luck there.

I'll be grateful for any ideas.

SQL server 2005 to 2008 upgrade

I am running the XP operating system.  I tried to upgrade from SQL server 2005 to 2008 because I will be taking a database class at UNCC soon.  The upgrade stopped running and I could not get it to restart. Now when I reboot my computer I get an error message. The message says my SQL server 2005 installation is corrupt and has been tampered with.  I tried uninstalling it but the system will not allow me to. I can continue using the 2005 for the class so I would like to know how I can get it operational with out doing a complete system restore.

Upgrade from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 from SharePoint 2007 SSRS 2005 integrated mode

I"m attempting to upgrade from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2 x64 Enterprise on a server running Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise, SharePoint 2007 Enterprise, and SQL Server 2005 and SSRS 2005 Enterprise running in integrated mode.

I installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=35c3a13f-4b5e-4d4a-86e4-07ee307b9638&displaylang=en.

When attempting to install Report Builder 2.0, I get the error "Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint products and technologies is not installed."

When I try to run a report (existing 2005 reports already deployed), I get the error: "Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object." The log has repeating ReportingServicesService.exe errors: #20015: Cannot open "Resources.en-US.resx": no such file or folder, and: Localized resource for token 'ManageDatasetCaching_Desc' could not be found for file with path: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Template\Features\ReportServer\ItemCustomActions\ecbExtension.xml" among other things.

Unable to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 4 (KB2463332)

Rookie here. Using SQL for an eBay software program we have been running for two years. There were simple step by step instructions to install -- point being, I really dont understand this stuff.

Running Windows XP SP3.

Automatic Updates is trying to install the version shown in the Title of this message. It fails to install and gives me the error: SQL BPA command line has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I do not know where to access the error log. I will post if someone can tell me the correct one to find. In the following directory, C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\, there are directories for MSSQL.1, MSSQL.2 and MSSQL.3. Two of them show log directories with today's date.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!
