Installing SP3 and 4 to SQL 2005 seems successful but does not update the version

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

I've been searching for an answer to this for days. I've seen some similar issues but none that directly reflect my problem. I have one instance of SQL server 2005 SP2 on a Windows 2003 Server Sp2 32 bit system. I've tried to install both SP3 and SP4 from Windows Update and manually from downloaded files. In every case the install completes succesfully. No reboot is requested but I rebooted anyway. I see this in the event viewer:

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Version not changed after installing Cumulative Update

I installed the August Cumulative Update, but the version number didn't update on my system.  The install processed successfully (at least no errors showed up).  How do I confirm the installation?

Thank you.

SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.

MSAS 2005 vs 2008 - different results of an UPDATE CUBE instruction

Hi ALL!   When moving from SSAS2005 to SSAS2008 I have a problem with write enabled cubes. On SSAS2005 UPDATE CUBE instruction occures almost instantaneously but on SSAS 2008 this takes few seconds. I created a cube with one dimension and one measure for testing. No aggregations, fact table initially empty, measure has 3 elements. Profiler shows that SSAS2008 UPDATE CUBE instruction initiates cube processing, but SSAS2005 doesn’t do this. What's wrong? Please, help! Upgrade SQL 2005 standard Runtime edition to SQL 2005 standard edition full version

We have a MS SQL 2005 standard edition runtime license. The SQL Server Runtime license is a license that lets an independent software vendor (ISV) embed the complete SQL Server code into a solution for use only by the ISV application. The customers of the ISV cannot use this SQL Server product to run other applications or to develop new applications, databases, or tables. Now we want to add a new database to the SQL. We know that we have to buy a full version of SQL 2008 standard edition. But the question is: How can we add a new database to the existing SQL. Do we have to uninstall SQL runtime license and install the full version and migrate the existing databse or can we change the key and add new databases to the SQL server?

Problem installing Cumulative Update 6 for SQL 2008 SP1 on Windows XP

I am attempting to apply SQL Server 20008 SP1 Cumulative Update 6 on my Windows XP desktop. The update executable is unpacked and I get a brief flash of a Command Screen and then nothing. I have searched for any update files but have not found any. My Desktop Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Windows Installer 4. SQL Server 2008 SP1 Developer Edition. I am also attempting to install the Client Tools for SQL 2008R2 on this same desktop and am getting the same results. I click on SETUP and get a brief flash of the Command Screen and the installation does not continue. Internet searches speak of a problem with a registry entry in the Boostrap Key for a valid Setup directory, but this key exists in my desktop registry. Thanks,
