Getting an error when processing a dimension, Errors in the back-end database access module. OLE DB reported an overflow of the data type for column 0. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the 'xxxxxx' attribute of the 'Dim XXXXXX' dimension from the 'XXXXXXX' database was being processed. Content of this dimension is very similar to one that is processing no problem. The content of the dimension is one field only of type date.  The original content was imported through SSIS from a DB2 database on an iseries machine.  Thought a first the issue was because of the data contains some null values but the dimension the process OK also has some null  values.  The dimension that processes ok is also a single field of type date. Any help greatly appreciated, Roscoe

Errors in the back-end database access module. The managed provider 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client' cou

Hi. I have connected my SSAS in SQL server 2008 to an Oracle database.  I have installed the Oracle ODAC to enable me to set up the Data Source, the Data Source View and the Cube.  Now everything was going fine.  I could connect to the Oracle Database and I could see my tables and pull them into the DSV. But.  When I come to process the Cube it throws these errors.  Why all of a sudden do the connection objects stop working? Errors in the back-end database access module. The managed provider 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client' could not be instantiated. Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source with the DataSourceID of 'DBIBGEORAclients', Name of 'DBIBGEORAclients'. Can anyone help here please? Thanks, David.

Basic data type problem with database insert

Hi,I'm trying to write some values into a database, but I think there's an issue with the data types.  Here's what I've got: public static string Hello(string pageId, string inOut) { string itemId = ""; string period = ""; var cookie = HttpContext.Current.Request.Cookies["visitorGUID"].Value; SqlConnection conn; SqlCommand comm; conn = new SqlConnection(GlobalSettings.DbDSN); comm = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO myTable (memberGUID) VALUES (@memberGUID);", conn); comm.Parameters.Add("@memberGUID", System.Data.SqlDbType.Text); comm.Parameters["@memberGUID"].Value = cookie; try { conn.Open(); comm.ExecuteNonQuery(); return "Item added: cookie = " + cookie + " / pageId = " + pageId + " / inOut = " + inOut + " / pageId = " + pageId + " / itemId = " + itemId + " period = " + period; } catch { return "Item caught: cookie = " + cookie + " / pageId = " + pageId + " / inOut = " + inOut + " / pageId = " + pageId + " / itemId = " + itemId + " period = " + period; } finally { conn.Close(); } } At the moment I'm just trying to insert the value of the cookie into the database as a test.  It works fine when I

Custom Entity Framework template and access to the database type

First and foremost ... I already made a few changes in the template, the most important one changing the methods generated for stored procedures with OUTPUT parameters and no resultset so that instead of instantiating a few OutputParameter objects, passing them to the method and extracting the values (all without any type checking) you just call the method with a few "out someType?" parameters so I do not need the very basics. I am totally confused by all those GlobalItem, EdmProperty, BuiltInTypeKind, TypeUsage and all this made of objects, all alike and all different though so as soon as I need more data than what's already used by the template I run into problems :-(What I would like is to change the WritePrimitiveTypeProperty() so that it outputs [StringLength(xxx)]  for all char, varchar, nchar and nvarchar properties. But I can't find a way to get from an EdmProperty in the model to the database type in the store. Can anyone help me?In case anyone is interested here's the modified stored procedure mapping code for the template. The first code replaces the original in the .tt: //////// //////// Write EntityContainer and ObjectContext Function Import methods. //////// region.Begin(GetResourceString("Template_RegionFunctionImports")); foreach (EdmFunction edmFunction in container.FunctionIm

Stupid developer tricks - When a data type overflow doesn't cause an overflow

Build a very basic cube that has a dimension with a hierarchy and a single measure.  For example, a time dimension with Year, Quarter, Month, Date along with a quantity sold.  The quantity sold is an integer in your database. Now, load up your database with test data such that the quantity when rolled up to a quarter level will be just less than the maximum value for an integer.  Process your cube and see the absolutely stupid value that gets displayed for a year. For those of you reading along and not wanting to build a cube to see what happens, here it is in a nutshell. To make the math simple, we'll use 2 billion as the max value for an int and -2 billion and the min value.  Say for example that the quantity sold for each quarter was 1 billion units.  When you look at the cube from the quarter on down, you see nice, neat POSITIVE values.  But, when you look at the quantity sold for the year, SSAS reports the quantity sold as 0. No, it didn't substitute 0 for a data type overflow (4 billion exceeds the 2 billion max).  Instead, the developer of this "feature" decided that it would be a really nice idea to just ignore the fact that you had a data type overflow and just treat the range of values as a looping structure.  So, his code said, take the aggregated value, run it all the way up to the last value in the range and tak

Starting Data Access Layer Tutorials - Confusion on Database downloads

Hello.I have really enjoyed going through the Security Tutorials. They were well done and I think I learned a lot.I am just about to start the first Data Access Layer Tutorial. I am a little bit confused.I have MS SQL Server 2005 and MS Visual Studio 2005 on my laptop. The first tutorial says to download and use the Northwind database. But, the link in the tutorial goes to a MS page that says that the Northwind database is for SQL Server 2000 - although it will work with 2005. The page suggests that I use the AdventureWorks database with 2005. But, when I click on the link for that page it says that this database is now on CodePlex servers and gives me yet another link.I just want to use the right database for this tutorial. Can someone please explain to me what is the right process for this tutorial? Will I just be able to download and run the EXE for the Northwind database with what I have and immediately be able to start going throgh the tutorial? Or, will I need to make some adjustments since the Northwind DB is for SQL Server 2000? I just don't want to get something installed and then have to back out of it.Thanks.

Suggestion about exporting data into Access database from sql server 2008 without Linked Server

We have a website that was using Sql server 2005. There was a option in Website where when a user clicks a button, Some tables data will be exported to an access database. To achieve this, we have setup a linked server to Access database. We have moved from sql server 2005 to 2008 (64bit). We did not want to use that option of having a linked server now. I am looking for different ways to achieve the task. We also donot want to use OPENROWSET and OPENDATASOURCE .

Can someone  give some insight about this?

Access web database - what is the best way to add workflows to the data in these databases?

I'm experimenting with Access Web Databases with SharePoint 2010.

Can anyone tell me how you typically use workflows with these databases?

Do you just stick to data macros or do you export the information to a static list and then add the workflow to the list, or are any of you working with it in other ways?

I'm looking for recommendations.

Any advice is appreciated.

Error in Uploading Files to Access 2010 Web Database Table with Data Macro

Hi All,

I've recently published an Access 2010 Web Database to the SharePoint 2010 farm in my organization and I'm having the strangest problem.

I have a table which includes an Attachment field. When trying to upload a file through the web I get the following error: "There was an error uploading your attachment to the server".

Now, this table has a "Before Change" Data Macro, which basically executes a simple LookUp of several parameters from another table and writes them back to the "master" table. When deleting this Data Macro, upload on the Web works fine.

The thing is that when working from the local Access file (connected to the SharePoint) and trying to change a field in the table, the following error is received: "The Microsoft Access database engine encountered an error whil
