Is CDC an audit feature of SQL 2008?

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

CDC is used to track changes in tables.

Can we say that it is another auditing feature of SQL 2008?

If I say that I want to capture the audit data of SQL 2008 then I am including SQLAudit files, C2 logging, trace files, Eventlog PLUS CDC.

Am I right?

Appreciate a quick response.

Problem adding .NET 3.5.1 feature on Server 2008 R2

Having an issue with a 2008 R2 64-bit Server becoming unresponsive/locking up when trying to activate the .NET 3.5.1 feature.  Did not have any previous version of .NET installed but ran the .NET Cleanup utility and completed successfully but still have same issue.  It installed .NET 4 via the Microsoft Updates OK but still hangs part way through the 3.5.1 install via the Server Manager/Add Features.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Re: Downloading the SQL Server 2008 R2 feature pack..

Hi, I have tried over the last few days to download the SQL Server 2008 R2 feature pack, on clicking the link or start download link a htm page is displayed rather than the download initiated. Link below: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ceb4346f-657f-4d28-83f5-aae0c5c83d52&displaylang=en The feature pack doesn't appear to be available in the MSDN downloads section, could you suggest an alternative download site. We need the feature as a pre-req for installing a third party app. Thanks very much in advance.

SQL Server 2008 Feature Upgrade Failed

I have an installation of SQL Server 2005 Express, and I'm trying to upgrade it to SQL Server 2008 Express.  During the installation, when it gets to the "Upgrade Rules" part, everything passes except for "SQL Server 2008 Feature Upgrade."  It says the specified edition upgrade is not supported, but according to the upgrade matrix it should be.  We plan on purchasing licenses for the Enterprise edition, but I would like to figure this out in the meantime.

SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Error - SQL Server 2008 Feature Upgrade

I get the following rule check error when attempting to run the SQL Server Upgrade process on my Vista Ultimate machine:

Code Snippet

Rule Check Result
Rule "SQL Server 2008 Feature Upgrade" failed.

The specified edition upgrade is not supported. For information about supported upgrade paths, see the SQL Server 2008 version and edition upgrade matrix in Books Online.

However, the version that I'm attempting to upgrade from is -  Standard Edition - Version 9.00.1399.06

And according to the Version and Editions Upgrades matrix, this should be possible?

Upgrade fails: "SQL Server 2008 R2 Feature Upgrade"

Shouldn't I be able to upgrade to 2008 R2?

.Net Framework 3.5.1 Feature not available to install on Windows 2008 Standard

Working with a new server running Windows Server Standard 2008 32 bit.  In "Add Features" for Server Manager .Net Framework 3.5 is not an option.  However it is showig in the Programs & Features.  The .Net Framework 3.0 does show.  I have removed the .Net 3.0, uninstalled 3.5 from Programs - reinstalled 3.5 and 3.0 is showing again in the list of Installed features.

Any explanation on why 3.5 is not appearing?

This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

Seven reasons to care about SQL Server 2008 R2

Microsoft begins to fully realize its vision of SQL Server as an information platform and not "just" a database. Hence the main theme for this release -- at least according to Microsoft -- is self-service BI. The PowerPivot plug-ins for Excel 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are easily going to make the biggest splash of all the new features, not least because they're the most complete. But then, SQL Server 2008 R2 isn't strictly necessary for PowerPivot for Excel, which works with plenty of other data sources.
