Sync with backup option

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :
We are using SQL 2005 and plan on transactional replicating a database where the transaction log is backed up and truncated every hour. If we schedule the replication to occur every half hour how can I guarantee that the transaction will make it to the distribution database before they are truncated. Should I set the IsSyncWithBackup?

Why do you need Sync with Backup in Transactional Replication?

I am setting the transactional replication. My boss is worried about the point in time recovery on the subscriber if anything failson the subsciber .My question is I know we have log retention period of 2-3 days by default . Will that not take care of replaying the logs from publisher when there is a failure on the subsciption or distributor level?

'Initialize with backup' Option in transactional Replication

We have set 'Initialize with backup'  while intialially restoring the backup over subscriber. My question is

When there is a failure on sunscriber or agent will I be able to reintialise the snapshot without changing any setting?

Restore database backup with Copy_Only option failed ?

When we failed to restore a backup from a BAK file for SQL Server 2008.

Then we find that the backup is created by using BACKUP xxxx COPY_ONLY parameter.  When we attempt  to restore from Management Studio (with the database changed to single user mode), we get the error message "There is NOTHING in the "Select the backup sets to restore".

We would like to seek your advice on

1) Whether we can restore the database from Management Studio GUI ?

2) If not, can you suggest a SQL Script for the backup ?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Restore your full backup, then run a few queries before you keep restoring transaction logs. Brent shows how to use the Standby option for restores.

In this five minute video, Brent demonstrates how to do it by creating a database, populating data, and then showing what disaster recovery is like by doing RESTORE WITH STANDBY.

VS 2010 HTML validation "in CSS" option - where the hell is it?

In VS 2008 there is a very useful feature of background HTML validation - it checks if CSS class name is valid i.e. it exists in one of the linked css files. But VS 2010 Express does not do that any more. And the relevant setting in Options->Text Editor->HTML->Validation->in CSS is not there. Ok, maybe they made it paid for option? VS 2010 Professional? Not there. Or maybe VS 2010 Ultimate? Not a trace.

1. am I blind?

2. they decided it is too convenient to use and removed it?

3. they will "introduce" it in SP1?

What is going on? That one thing made me move back to VS 2008 web developer.

Attach Workflow to Task List, don't get option to manually start workflow via dropdown on task item

I am running WSS 3.0 with other workflows which are functioning correctly.  I created a new workflow in Visual Studio 2008 and was able to successfully run it in my dev environment.  I attached the workflow to a task list in my dev environment and was able to manually start the workflow by using the drop down workflow option and using the menus to manually start it.  I installed this workflow in our production environment and attached it to the task list (which had a SPD workflow attached to it which stopped working about a month ago).  I made sure that the option to manually start the workflow was checked.  When I tried to manually start the workflow, (hover mouse over title, drop down) there isn’t a workflow option.  The workflow also will not start automatically when a task is changed.

I attached this same workflow to a different task list in production and get the option to start it.

I have tried creating a small workflow in SPD 2007 and attaching it to the task list.  It shows that it is attached, when I look at the workflows that are attached to the task list, but I still don’t get the option to manually start it.

I have checked my security and I have fu

MOSS 2007 Backup Strategies

I saw some backup strategy best practices papers stating you could backup the databases and site content separately, but was told by Microsoft that if you do that, and have to do a bare metal restore you will not be able to recover because the site content and database will be out of sync. Does anyone have a proven DR process for MOSS 2007 that they can share? We have Commvault in house right now, but are using it only to backup the databases and file system separately. Should we be using the built in sharepoint backup stdadm(sp?) tools?

Multiline Option does not work

Hi,Below is the sample piece of code(The code is in VB.NET), where I am expecting an answer of "true" with my basic knowledge of Regular Expressions.---------------------------------------------------'VB   Dim r As New Regex("^def$", RegexOptions.Multiline)   Dim d As String = String.Format("{0}{1}{2}{3}{4}{5}", "abc", System.Environment.NewLine, "def", System.Environment.NewLine, "def", System.Environment.NewLine) MsgBox(r.Match(d).Success)-----------------------------------------------------------The answer I get is false, but there are two "def" in 2nd  and 3rd line of the data and Multiline option is enabled, I have checked it with VS 2005 and VS 2008, both give me answer as false.  What is the mistake I have done? Please help. Thanks and Best Regards,Bennz Benz

SMO Backup and Restore Help

Hello Friends, I am new to SMO, Till now I have only worked with Selct,Insert/update Queries.. Now I want to Implement some backup and restore feature for my application. I looked at some documents of SMO and found it is possible using SMO. First of all I will explain my situation. My application wants to store data belongs to different companies(which is maintained with in application) in to single database server, Sql server 2008. I am planning to use Partition Scheme function and create filegroup for each company. Advantage here is, taking backup of each company will be easy. I am generating primary key for each table without taking into consideration of companies. In other words Particular table's ID 1,2 belongs to Company A, 3 Belongs to Company B and 5 belongs to Company A... But these data will be split in to Different filegroups using Company ID.(horizontal partitioning) Ok... Now the Problem.. My backup for a particular company was taken successfully. Now I want Restore function. When I am trying to restore this backup to somewhere else. Target database may or may not contain Companies installed. When Restoring Will there be any Primary key Violation? I know one solution is to generate primary key by taking into consideration Company Id. But this will cause a complete rewriting of code, as it contains lot of edit/delete queries.  I want to know, whether the
