Initialize Subscription Failing

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

When I create a subscription for a Publication I am receiving the following error: Concurrent snapshot for publication <Name> is not available because it has not been fully generated or the Log Reader Agent is not running to activate it.

The snapshot has completed, and I have recreated the snapshot multiple times. The Log Reader is running without apparent problems, but continue to receive this error message.

Does anyone have any ideas why this error is occurring?

SSRS 2008 R2 data driven subscription failing

I have a SSRS report connecting to a SSAS cube. i have created a data driven subscription for two of the report parameters.

since its a ssas cube we have to pass the actual parameter value.

For ex: for parameter name PAR_ASM the value passed is &[23563]. This value works when i execute the report from reportserver using url parameter adding the following at the end &PAR_ASM=%26[23563]. But the same doesn't work when i do it from the subscription.

Also strange things is that this subscription was working on 2008, but after upgrading to 2008 R2 it started failing.

has anybody faced a similar issue?

How to initialize merge subscription locally?

This is the scenario that I'm trying to get working:
1) Publisher = SQL 2008 SP2, Subscriber = SQL 2008 Express, Replication = merge replication (pull) + subscribers get filtered data with Host_Name()
2) When a new subscriber connects to the publication, the publisher will generate a compressed snapshot
3) I will then manually download the compressed snapshot via passive FTP-SSL (as far as I know, merge replication only works with active FTP, please correct me if I'm wrong)
4) Once the snapshot is downloaded, I will perform the initial syncrhonization and apply the snapshot locally from the downloaded cab file

I'm having a problem with the last step in my scenario. I'm getting this error:
You cannot specify an alternate snapshot folder (-AltSnapshotFolder) or the partitioned snapshot folder name (-DynamicSnapshotLocation) when the publication has one or more articles that use non-overlapping partitions that are unique for each subscription (@partition_options = 3).

All the information that I have found on the web, suggests that this scenario is possible. Although for step 3, a removable drive (cd/dvd, usb drive) is suggested instead. But detailed information for step 4 is nowhere to be found.

As for the error itse

SQL CE web sync pull subscription fails to initialize with "value violated the integrity constraints

I was torn whether to post this to a SQL CE or the SQL Server Replication forums, but all my attempts to isolate this failure mode in test cases using pure ADO.NET against SQL CE have been unnsuccessful, so I'm leaning toward this somehow being related to an interplay with merge replication.

Some of this background may not relate to my specific failure, but I'll err on being thorough: My topology is SQL Server 2008 R2 running Merge Replication with Web Synchronization using the SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP2 Server Tools, and SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP2 for the client DBs on full Windows XP or later OS’s.  We have 150+ articles, each of which range from 10 published columns to close to the 255 limit. Regarding filtering, we have a root article filtered on the hostname, which then has 2 levels of join filtering cascading off that.  We are using column level change tracking and with use_partition_groups=false (due to a major performance hit when doing DML updates on the server when this was "true") and we are not pregenerating snapshots for specific subscribers so that occurs on the fly for new subscribers.  Currently we have subscribers counted in the hundreds, but the end target will be thousands of subscribers across the US synchronizing over the public internet (including from air cards).

Is Conditional Subscription possible in SSRS 2005?

Hi Guys,

Is there a way to set up a subscription that will send e-mails based on the contents of a report? For example, I want to schedule a daily subscription that will only send an e-mail if the report contains data, otherwise it will do nothing for that day. i.e If the report has more than one row, it should send the mail otherwise it should not send the mail.....

Is it possible in SSRS 2005 or is there any other way to do it???

ASMX ws: An unexpected error occurred on a receive; failing intermittently

we I have asmx web service, this seems to be working fine for 25 client machines but one site keeps failing. The client gets a small dataset and tries to send it across to server to process. The dataset saved in XML file only makes 450 - 550kB. The web service is contacted twice in a short time every half an hour. The other smaller dataset (50kB) goes across everytime without any troubles. This site is not trying to send the biggest dataset, other site are sending much bigger datasets without problem. The catch is this failing site keeps retrying for 20 times (10 hours) in average and then eventually goes across. I don't think the service webmethod is erroring out as that is all wrapped up in the try and catch and the exception is not getting thrown, also every other try for the exact same webmethod used by any other client site seems to be working fine.

How to increment default dates in the subscription

I have a report that I want run on a monthly subscription, but the report has a default date parameter. Is there a way to have the default date parameter increment each month. So if I choose to receive the subscription monthly I would want that default date to increment.

SQL Server 2008 - Job Activity Monitor Failing

I recently began migrating to Windows 2008. One of the first servers is a server which we install our tools on. This is a new server which currently is only running the SQL Server management tools. On this server I installed the SQL Server 2008 R2 management tools, prior to this install there were no other SQL Server tools installed on this server. The majority of the functionality works and I can connect and manage multiple databases servers from SQL Server version 2000 through 2008. But when I try to bring up the Job Activity monitor I get an error ==> Can not show requested dialog. From Windows XP Windows Server 2003 SP2 this functionality works. I get this error if I connect to a SQL Server 2005 or 2008 database instance. I have tried re-installing the client tools but I still get this error..... any ideas?

SQL Server Network Interfaces Error 26 - while failing over SQL Server 2008 R2

Before I explain the issue I am facing, I would like to say that I did read the post at  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx but in my case the problem is transient (lasts for approximately two minutes after a failover) so items 1-3 in the list of troubleshooting steps do not seem to make sense. As to 4 and 5, the named instances use non-default ports (2433 and 3433 respectively), so I do not know how to tailor the PortQry command for that. I tried  portqry.exe -n ServerA,2433-p UDP -e 1434 and  portqry.exe -n ServerA,2433 -p UDP -e 2434 and it failed both times with a "Failed to resolve name to IP address" while the server was up and serving database requests The same thing happened when I tried it with the failover server as well. ***The issue I am facing*** I am using Enterprise Library 4.1 to connect to a SQL Server 2008 R2 database with a mirror. My connection string itself is as below (with dummy values for all fields): "Data Source=ServerA;Failover Partner=ServerB;Initial Catalog=DBName;User ID=uid;Password=pwd;Connect Timeout=5" Sample .NET code is as below (with modifications to instantiate all variables locally to provide context): SqlDatabase db = new SqlDatabase(ConnectionString); SqlConnection cn = (SqlConnection)db

Initialize snapshot fro alternate location - multiple .bcp files for an article

I have to replicate over 50GB of data over a slow network.  I did not use the option to initialize snapshot from database backup because the replication articles contain row filters.  If I do that, I'll have to run a lot of scripts to remove the data and other unnecessary database objects on the subscriber. Instead, I created a workaround.  On the publisher, I first create the actual push subscription to the target subscriber on the publication.  This subscription is set not to initialize from snapshot.  I then created a second push subscription on the same publication, but the subscriber is a random database on the publisher server.  This second subscription is a dummy subscription set to initialize from snapshot - the purpose is to generate the necessary snapshot files.  I then reinitialized all subscriptions and generate the new snapshot files. On the subscriber, an empty database is created with the same tables as the publisher database.  I created an identical publication on this empty database, and a dummy push subscription on the target subscriber.  The subscription is reinitialized, and the snapshot files on the empty database is created.  These dummy snapshot files are then overwritten with the actual snapshot files created on the publisher, and then I synchronize the the dummy subscriptions with the actual sn

Subscription scheduling

Currently I have 35 remote locations, each with a SQL Server, that all replicate (transactional) back to a data center as well as replication from the data center to each location.   Each remote location has approx 13 publications each with one subscription that all go to the data center. The data center has 3 sets of filtered publications (1 for each location) with one subscriber & 26 publications that each have 35 subscribers (to the remote locations) The SQL Server @ the data center is used very little for anything other than replication.  The SQL Server in the data center is used for a pass through & the data is replicated to the main office for queries/processing/etc. A questions has bee brought up about scheduling. What is the best practice when it comes to scheduling data to be replicated from the data center to the remote locations?? What is the best practice when it comes to scheduling data to be replicated from the remote locations to the data center?? Is there any documented white papers out there that I can use as a guide?? Currently most replication happens at X after the hour, where X is the location number (#3-#44). Does anyone have any suggestions?? AHIA, Larry....

The subscription status of the object could not be changed

Good day to all.. I have a problem. There are two sql servers with transactional replication Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64) Mar 29 2009 10:11:52 Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 <X64> (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) There was a table function without parameters, included in articles of publication. Then I had to change it with adding one parameter. I've changed it via alter function on the publisher. And then replication stopped with error message about invalid argument count in this function. I've decided to reinitialise subscribtion with new snapshot, but new snapshot can't be created ("The subscription status of the object could not be changed"). Then I've decided to drop this subscription and recreate it, but I can't drop it (same error - "The subscription status of the object could not be changed").. Dropping publication also was unsuccesfull. How I can repair replication now?

Backup keeps failing and prevents another job from running

I have been trying to backup 6 Databases on an External harddrive but it keeps failing each time and preventing another job from running (the other job runns every 30 mins) is there another way that I should perform backup. Thank you in advance.

Windows 2008 R2/SQL 2008 SP1 CU5 active/active cluster keeps failing

I have set up many of the same clusters in the last few months, but this cluster specifically has been having lots of problems lately.  OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 latest patches SQL: SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU5 (version: 10.0.2746) Disks: VMAX SAN In the very beginning when I set up the cluster, the cluster validation kept failing when I tried to add a node.  Turned out that we had to unjoin the servers from the domain and rejoin.  Right after that the cluster validation succeeded, the second node joined the cluster, and quorum was changed to "Node and Disk Majority".  SQL was installed and set up as active/active (one sql instance on each node).  No issues then until SQL server was actually in use.  Symptoms: SQL server has heavy ETL processing plus being a subscriber of a sql replication.  The following errors first started on 4/24 when I set up sql replication (these servers are replication subscribers): EventID: 1127, Source: FailoverCluster, Task Category: Network Manager Cluster network interface 'man1fscl01a - Hartbeat to man1fscl91b' for cluster node 'man1fscl01a' on network 'ClusterHeartBeat' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Merge Replication: Fails using Replication.SaveProperties when changing Subscription Info

I'm trying to use SQL Server/Compact Framework 3 Merge Replication functionality and am running into a problem when calling Replication.SaveProperties (using c#). I was hoping to get some clarification on whether its my interpretation on how things should work vs a coding problem. Basically, the Merge Replication seems to work as I can sync information between my handheld and server databases.  However, I've created a form on my handheld so that the user can change some synchronication settings (e.g. Publication or Publisher Name) and then save it.  What I've noticed is : 1) You can NOT call Replication.SaveProperties until after a synchronization is performed (otherwise you get an error message).  Assuming this is so that it can create the "__sysMergeSubscriptions" table. Does this sound right? 2) If I then try to change the saved Subscriber information via another call to Replication.SaveProperties (e.g. change the Publication info), I then get an error message that says: The subscription was not found. Publisher, PublisherDatabase, or Publication  could be incorrect. Is this normal behavior?  Does this mean that you can you NOT change subscriber information; only add or drop it? Thanks,  Ed
