FOR XML Blank Attributes missing end tag when assigning to Variable

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi Everyone,

We have FOR XML Query that is giving the required XML with correct format when we are executing it within a stored procedure. Now when we are assigning it to a variable the attributes having blank value are being returned as single tag <Geography/>.

When not assigned variable, here is how output is looking like -

TransactedTeceiveScope not persisting when assigning value to a variable

In a TransactedTeceiveScope I write to a DB table (via a custom activity SaveApprovalRequest using EF) and want to execute some other activities. With SaveApprovalRequest being the only acitivty workflow persistance works fine. As soon as I addionally assign a value to a variable the workflow no longer gets persisted. Why? I am using EF to write to a table in the same DB where . Below a minimal test case. With the assign activity the workflow does not persist. Without the assign activity the workflow does persist. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.diagnostics> <sources> <source name="System.ServiceModel" switchValue="Warning,ActivityTracing" propagateActivity="true"> <listeners> <add name="svcTraceFile" type="System.Diagnostics.XmlWriterTraceListener, System, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" initializeData="X:\temp\Logs\ApprovalWorkflowTrace.svclog" traceOutputOptions="Timestamp"> <filter type="" /> </add> </listeners> </source> </sources> </system.diagnostics> <connectionStrings> <add name="approval" connectionString="Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=Approv

missing event Handles variable

There is a missing event Handles variable found in the VB button code.What is the missing variable? Problem assigning a value to a variable in a Script Task

I've found loads of posts with the error I'm seeing: "The type of the value being assigned to variable [XXX] differs from the current variable type". However, I can't see anything that matches my scenario.  I'm simply trying to assign a value to a variable BEFORE passing the variable to an Execute SQL Task. I want to assign "true" or "false" to a Boolean variable called LogError, but as I got this error, I tried instead to assign 0 or 1 to it after converting it to an Int16 variable, but got the same result. I can see all manner of posts that make me wonder what I may have problems with next when I try to pass this variable to my stored proc that's expecting a BIT, but for now, I'd love SSIS to simply assign the value to the variable! Any ideas?

Script Component - Assigning value to a variable problem

I have a Script Component and in it I want to assign a value from a row to a variable. I am iterating through a For Each Loop, so I am only getting 1 row at a time. I have a variable declared as ScriptedSaleID and the following code in my Input0_ProcessinputRow method:

myvars As IDTSVariables100

        'We lock the variable for writing. 1st parameter is the name of the variable
        VariableDispenser.LockOneForWrite("ScriptedSaleID", myvars)

        'Now we can write the value to the variable
        myvars(0).Value = Row.SaleID

        'Now we unlock the variables

My problem is

Organization browser blank (missing)

I'm testing SP2010 to see if it will do what we need.  I have three servers (VMs): DC, SQL, SP2010.  I did a small farm install and ran through wizard in Central Admin after the install.  I then removed the initial site collection that was created with the wizard (it pointed to \\server).  I then created a site collection that used SSL and pointed directly at FQDN.

The problem that I have is that the Silverlight control that is supposed to show the organization tree has no data.  It is empty.  I'm fairly new to the permission requirements and relationship between site collections, site templates, and my sites.  I'm not sure what of these might be causing problem.

Any suggestions?

Local variable scoping in C#

In my previous post, Compiler-generated scopes for local variable declarations, I briefly touched on the issue of multiple meanings applied to the same name. In this post, I'll aim to flush out the compiler's rules with regards to binding names in their local scopes.

Compiler-generated scopes for local variable declarations

I was tasked with understanding and fixing a bug on error reporting with foreach iteration variables the other day, and it got me thinking about local variable scoping rules in C# in general. First, the bug.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

Retrieving a variable from a previous page

I'm looking to have a search page where a user will select an item from a listview, then then taken to another page that wil display data based on their original selection.

A user will type in a string and be presented with a list of usernames that are like that string, when they select a user name who's profile they would like to view I would like the page that they're taken to, to be that users profile.

How would I transfer the variable from the search page to the profile page, and when I work on the profile page, how can I access that variable?

Embeb a variable number of videos

I need to provide some alternate content for my non-Flash users.

I have a directory of video files that is scanned using the DirectoryInfo() function, and I want to use the results to embed all files ending in ".mov" in QuickTime players on a web form.

How would you approach this? Right now I am using the count on the array of videos to determine how many times to repeat the embed code.  But this seems inelegant.

Is there a way to have a single QuickTime player.ascx control that gets duplicated according to the number of videos available for display?

How to take value of bound field of grid in a variable or in a textbox.

Hidden variable has no value

I know I have a valid solution, but the js is telling me that the value in the hdnRecordSaved variable has no value!
Even when I specify in my function the following, it still tells me it has no value:
var myTextField = document.getElementById('hdnRecordSaved');

When I put the full value of the variable in (ctl00_ctl00_cphTopCenter_cphCenter_hdnRecordSaved.value), I get the correct contents back ("1"), which I set in my code behind. However, I would prefer to just put the short name in since the masterpages may change, etc. Unfortunately, I know I can get around this with VS2010, but we are using VS2008.

What am I doing wrong with the js naming conventions that can't give me the contents? Here is my below js.

<asp:Panel ID="pnlMapFields" runat="server" ScrollBars="Both" Height="430px">

<telerik:RadTreeView ID="RadTreeView1" runat="server" DataTextField="Description"

DataFieldParentID="MapFieldparentID" DataF

Missing 'new item templates'

 Hi all,

          I am a 'newbie' to VWD and I am slowly working through the Basic Walkthrough Help files, and learning plenty along the way.

However, when I tried to create a new database in the LINQ control walkthrough I found that the option to create a new database is missing, and further investigation has found that many other new item templates are missing.

I am using a brand new machine with Windows 7 Ultimate and have enabled IIS and .NET from Control Panel-Programs-Turn Windows Features On-Off. I used the WPI to install all basic elements eg. IIS Components, SQL Server Express.

The only 'new item templates' I have when I right-click the App_Data Folder and choose 'new item' are:-

ADO.NET Data Service

AJAX Enabled WCF Service

Dynamic Data Field

SQL Server Database

Text File

XML File

Does anyone know where I have gone wrong.

How to retrieve data from SqlDataSource and pass to a variable?

Hi there,

I have a page in my website where there is very little code-behind. I only have two lines of code in Page_Load() and the rest of the code is declarative ASP.NET code. I have a FormView control which uses a SqlDataSource to get some order information. The SqlDataSource calls a stored procedure called usp_GetOrderDetails, here's the code for the SqlDataSource:

    <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sdsFormOrderDetails" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ForexDB %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ForexDB.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="usp_GetOrderDetails" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"
UpdateCommand="usp_UpdateOrder" UpdateCommandType="StoredProcedure"
<asp:ControlParameter Name="orderId" ControlID="grdOrders" PropertyName="SelectedDataKey.Value" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="orderId" ControlID="frmOrderDetails" PropertyName="SelectedValue" />

Custom Attributes + Reflection

I recently started messing around with custom attributes and reflection. In my code below GetCustomAttributes never return a list (it should return atleast one):

Am i defining the custom attrib wrong?

public class GOrder:IOrder
        public string CertProductIDString { get; set; }

        public string GetRESTParams()
            string data = string.Empty;
                System.Reflection.MemberInfo inf = this.GetType();
                object[] attributes;
                attributes =  inf.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(RESTParamAttrib), true);
                foreach (Object attribute in attributes)
                    RESTParamAttrib attrib = (RESTParamAttrib)attribute;
                    data = data + string.Format("\nData: {0}", attrib.Param);

            catch (Exception ex)

                throw ex;

            return data;

    public class RESTParamAttrib:System.Attribute
        public RESTParamAttrib (string param)
            Param = param;

        public string

Basic Instincts: Designing With Custom Attributes

One of the most powerful aspects of the Microsoft® . NET Framework is its support for attributes. Attribute-based programming is extremely powerful because it adds a declarative dimension to designing and writing software.
