Time Dimension Enhancement with Business intelligence Issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi all, I want to add a year over year growth using the BI wizard (Time diemsion enhancement) but when I try to add this enhancement via the wizard then this last one has the button next disabled with a waning that says   A time dimension is required to enable this functionality. Ensure that you have a dimension of type Time, that contains at least one hierarchy with a level flagged as a time period. Inspite of the fact that I added that time dimsension with one hierarchy Time hierarchy Calendar Year Calendar Semester Calendar Quarter Time Key(With namecolumn defined as a named calculation that repsents the day with this format  yyyy, dd mm ) Me personaly I have a doubt about the last condition of the warning (with a level flagged as a time period) but I dont know exactly 1. If my doubt is right 2. What shoud I do to enhance the cube in this context using the time dimension enhancement The complexity resides in the simplicity

Time Intelligence Filter without aggregation

I have a line graph where I am trying to display the drop in a census over time. The report was built using the date level, so If I am showing the current month, or the last 10 days, The graph looks great. The problem is, I want users to be able to sort by Quarter, Semester, and Year. When I do this, I want to display the data by month. That is easy enough. However, when I do that, it adds every day of the month into one value, so instead of displaying a number like, "300," it displays something along the lines of "10k."  What I would like to do is only care about the last day of each month once you get the quarter, semester, and year levels. One solution I tried was setting my time intelligence as Quarter.firstmonth.lastday, Quarter.month.lastday, Quarter.lastmonth.lastday.  This works, if you happen to be in the second month of the quarter. I have also tried passing the second value as Quarter.(firstmonth+1).lastday and Quarter.(lastmonth-1).lastday, but dashboard designer doesn't like that syntax. I have also tried editing the aggregation settings on the measurements in my cube to "no aggregation," and "Last." When I do that and try to deploy the cube, it tells me I can't do that because I am not running the Enterprise version of SQL server 2008. I know the issue just has to be with my formulas, because it looked ok

Sharepoint 2010 Business Intelligence integration with datasources other than MS SQL Server

I want to Implement Business Intelligence by SharePoint 2010 on top of data sources other than MS SQL Server or MS Analytics Services ( cubes ), for example Oracle RDBMS and Oracle OLAP ( cube ) or Teradata. Quesiton : Is there any way to do this, if the is, how do I bring metadata to sharepoint BI or how do I make SharePoint BI to see other data source. I've looked at Busines Data Connectivity in Visual Studio, but that is more for two way integration and didn't seem like a good or easy way just to bring new data sources to SharePoint BI I found some tool from third party company "BDC Meta Man" which created metadata layer for Oracle RDBMS in SharePoint, but I thought there must be a way to do it by using Microsoft tools

Can´t get the time intelligence filter to work in PerformancePoint Services/Sharepoint

Hi all, I have created a scorecard in Dashboard Designer based on an SSAS cube which looks ok in both DD and Sharepoint. As I want to connect a time filter to this I have created a TI filter in DD. In Sharepoint I have connected the filter to the scorecard with "send performancepoint values to". In "configure connection" I set source value to "PerformancePoint Values: Formula" and Connect to to "Endpoint_TIFormula". I only need to filter on year and have set the TI properties on the cube. Selected time dimension is "Year", Hierarchy level is set to Year, Member is 2008, reference date is 1/1/2008 and I have associated member level Year to Time aggregation Year. The filter is set up like this in DD: it uses the same data source as the scorecard and I use a list view. I do get the filter to work if I specify one formula for each year (e.g. Formula: "Year" and "Display Name: "2010", "Year-1" and "2009" making up two rows) but that can´t be the right way to do it, right? What i would like is a multiselect tree view where I can choose the year I want and have them display on columns. I have tried the formula Year:Year-2 and in the preview I see [Date].[Year].&[2008],[Date].[Year].&[2009],[Date].[Year].&[2008]. However, in Sharepoint the filter only show on

Weird Date vs Date/Time issue using a calculated column

I'm attempting to use the fab 40 attendance template. I don't need the time to show - Im able to hide that on the forms with jquery (endusersharepoint.com thank you!!) I WAS ATTEMPTING to create a calculated column called Start Date where the formula simply reads '=[Start Time]' When it's set to display 'Date Only' the date is off by a day. If I switch it to 'Date & Time' I get the correct date. Huh?

Time dimension not grouping correctly

Hello, I'm new to SSAS but I did some reading and some training already. This is my third cube and I'm having trouble with my time dimension.. - first I browse the cube and drag the year and month to the columns section and it correctly renders only the times to which I have data - then I drag my workstation dimention to the rows section and it's also shows the wks fine. - Then I add my counter dimention to the rows section and it correctly shows up as a sub set of workstations. - The problem: When I drop my value fact it renders different value to each counter but show the same value for ANY time, including future dates. (time dimension generated with SSAS) Let me explain the cube, maybe you have seen something similar or could have some insight. Fact: A hourly based table with counters for my workstations. Columns: Datetime, wksid, counterName, and value (value aggregated by max()) Dimention Workstation: id, name Dimension Time: timeid, date, year, month, semester, etc. Dimension counter: id, countername All columns were connected to the correct related columns in the data source view. Why would the cube fail to correctly aggregate my facts by different dates? Any clue? Please let me know if you need any clarification.. Thanks in advance!

Scorecard Time Intelligence Question

I have what should be a very simple question. I have a score card that I want to use to display information from the previous month, and only the previous month. I set the time intelligence to month-1, but when I add information for the current month, it just adds to last month's goals. What can I do about that? Similarly, I would like to make a score card or some other kind of report that shows the month to date and how far off the target they are. Would I use monthtodate as the time intelligence?

Publishing reports from Business Intelligence to Sharepoint Services 2007

We currently have sharepoint services 2007 and SQL server 2005 installed (with reporting services) and Sharepoint SQl web part on a single box named 'king-sharepoint'.   We have sucessfully setup the reporting services from Native to integrated sharepoint with a db name of 'spkingsdb'. We are trying to publish reports to the sharepoint database using Visual Studio, as we are new to sharepoint we are confused as to how to achieve this.  We understand to publish it we need to know the path of the database (reportserver(spkingsdb)), the folder in which the reports will be published to (do we create this? If so then how?), and the server name (http://king-sharepoint/reportserver).  thanks

Comparison of Performance Point and Oracle Business Intelligence

Hello, Can someone provide me with an article that compares Oracle BI with Performance Point? Thanks in advance, Shelley

SSAS 2K5 - Server time dimension

Hi, I'm building a cube and I want to add a time dimension. I don't have any time table in my OLTP (Source) database. So I tried to use the wizards from SSAS to create a time (date) dimension. I have choosed the "Server time dimension" one. It did create all what I need with all the hierarchies. But when I tried to add time business intelligence with the wizard, it doesnt see my new time dimension. I have checked if the type was "time" for the dimension and It was ok. So I don't know why the Time intelligence can't see my time table .... btw, I start the Business Intelligence wizard from the cube.   Thanks

Shell Dimension - Not Time based

Hi   I am creating a shell dimension to create a hierarchy.  The idea is we want to know how much revenue we make from new accounts.  So I have created an account dimension and linked that to the Revenue fact.  I also created a Fact linked to the Date and User dims that will show the date the user was created.  By doing this, I was able to create a calculated measure that will show me total revenue, plus the revenue that is only for new players for a specific month: with member NewRev as aggregate( exists(DESCENDANTS([User Account].[User Account].[All], [User Account].[User Account].[User Account Key]) , [Date].[Date - Calendar Month].currentmember , "User Registration") , [Measures].[Revenue])   select {[Measures].[Revenue]  , NewRev} on columns , [Date].[Date - Calendar Month].[Calendar Month].&[201008] on rows from [Revenue] Sorry it is a bit messy, testing at the moment. What I would like to do is create a shell dimensions so I can create a hierarchy that will show new and returning players as members.  It would have an all level, or the user could split the revenue by this dim.  I set things up like the Time calculations shell dim, but am a bit stuck with how to create the mdx so that it will work with any measure. What would I change to do this? Regards Michael
