Embedded SQL / Count / GroupBy?

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi All,

looking for help to put together some sub-select SQL code.

Sample table data:

RecID | GroupID | User  |
  1   |    1    | John  |
  2   |    1    | Mary  |
  3   |    1    | Fred  |
  4   |    2    | Joe   |
  5   |    2    | Mary  |
  6   |    3    | Fred  |
  7   |    3    | Joe   |
  8   |    3    | Mary  |
  9   |    4    | Tony  |
  10  |    5    | Fred  |

I want to query the count of a particular set of users without knowing the GroupID.
For example, how many times do (John + mary + Fred) appear in a grouping?
(in the sample above, its twice, but in a different order).

Any thoughts on something efficent?

I have 163 .resx files. I want to count the words in these files, because my want to translate the sentences (my task is the localisation).

Now I'm opening each file in Ms Visual Studio and I count words manually. How can I count words in all files? And the second question: can I use a program what grab strings from .resx into an editor where I can translate them and save bacn into .resx files? Or must open the files one by one and edit the text fields manually?

How to display a count of search results with keywords in a label?

Sorry for a basic post here; I am very new to VB!

I am currently building a search page, which includes a textbox and two drop-down lists, a search button, and a datagrid. If results are found and displayed, I would like a label to display:

(e.g.) "24 results found for 'blue sky clouds' "

...where the integer represents the results count, and the keywords and/or drop-down list selections are included in the string.

If no results are found I would like the label to display:

(e.g.) "No results were found that match your selection. Please try again"

I would also like the label to be invisible until a search occurs.

Thanks in advance!

Pocket PC: MSMQ for Windows CE Brings Advanced Windows Messaging to Embedded Devices

Handheld devices are becoming increasingly important nodes on wireless networks, allowing their users to connect to data stores and other central server applications over the network. But wireless network connections can be unreliable, requiring the use of store-and-forward messaging that does not need to maintain a continuous connection. Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) has supplied these features to desktop machines, and there is now a version for handheld devices. MSMQ for Windows CE allows users of embedded devices to perform tasks such as remote order processing and inventory update without worrying about the state of their connection. The benefits of MSMQ for Windows CE and how to install and run the service is covered here.

Windows CE: eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0 Provide a Flexible and Robust Development Environment

This article provides an overview of writing applications for Windows CE 3.0. Unicode support in Windows CE, the kernel, memory management, the object store, and COM and DCOM are discussed. The article also covers the user interface, graphics, the Internet, and how Windows CE compares to the desktop in each of these areas. eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0 is discussed in depth. To help the reader decide which tools to use, development with Visual Basic, Win32, MFC, and ATL are explained. Text editor samples with this article have been developed with Visual Basic and Win32 so their implementations can be compared.

Pocket PC: Migrating a GPS App from the Desktop to eMbedded Visual Basic 3.0

A Global Positioning System (GPS) device captures lots of interesting information that can be used in many ways. This article presents a custom application built with Visual Basic that collects data from a GPS satellite and charts the course of a user relative to the satellite. Such an application is obviously well suited for use on a handheld PC and porting the original application to eMbedded Visual Basic for Windows CE is described. The differences between Visual Basic and eMbedded Visual Basic, such as support for specific control and data types, are explained. Tips for dealing with reduced screen real estate on a handheld PC, debugging, and running in an emulator are also discussed.

Datalist with embedded Grid or List...Sub Totals issue with iteration

Let me see if one of you can assist with this one...

i have a similar situation, but mine does not use the selected item (item Command). Here is what the form is to do:

1. this is for an educational environment, so we use SID- NOT SSN's, but i use the SID as a filter in the subset as the grouping unique id.

2. I'm trying to inject a sub total row at the last line item of each SID (if more than one item in the report for that SID).

3. I'm looping thru the items in the Datalist Item Command with a for each (item i in Datalist2.Items).

Items count in scope "not available" in on WFE while it is correct in another WFE

Recently, we added a new WFE in the farm to do load balance. After installation, the search is not working occassionally(almost 50%). It apparently hits the new server. The error message:
Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information.

I checked the Items count on view scopes. It is correct on old WFE, while it is "not available" on new WFE.
 In the Office Sharepoint Server Search Seveice seeting, I checked "Use this server for indexing content" and "use this server for serving search queries". I had ever tried to uncheck ""use this server for serving search queries". It is not working, either.

Any suggestion?

CheckBoxList embedded in FormView InsertItemTemplate problem

I've searched hi/lo and found many similar posts but those answers aren't working for me.

I've got a FormView, in an UpdatePanel.  In the FormView's EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate I'm using both a CheckBox and a CheckBoxList.  To present the data I databind in the code behind, (but then have to iterate to mark selected).  There I cast the sender as CheckBoxList in the OnPreRender event and use that object.

The problem is retrieval.  I'm trying to access the user's entries when they submit by using the cast.  It is working fine for the CheckBox, but for the CheckBoxList the resulting checkboxlist object doesn't have any items.

Here, both active and roles are created (they're not 'null') and active has the expected 'name' and 'selected' values, but roles has an item count = 0 and the for loop isn't entered.

            CheckBox active = ((CheckBox)Emp_Form.FindControl("cbActive"));

            CheckBoxList roles = (CheckBoxList)Emp_Form.FindControl("UsrRoles");

            foreach (ListItem role in roles.Items)
                // do stuff

Is there another way to cast a checkboxlist?  Any help would b
