How to change the default location of SQL Server Profiler Template?

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

How can I change the default location of SQL Server Profiler Template from C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SQL Profiler\10.0\Templates\Microsoft SQL Server\90?  If I log on to a Windows machine as certain user, anything created in appdata\roaming folder during that logon session will be lost after I logged off.

If there is no way to change the location, how can I set up such user to retain anything created?  I know this question is related to Windows administration but I guess someone in here probably have experienced my problem before.

Is it possible to change the title bar background and the font style on default template?

Is there any way to change the default top link /title bar picture and the fonts of the title without breaking anything in the layout/structure?

I have changed the theme to Obsedian and I would also like to change the picture of the title bar of this theme and also the font/style of the title, top link bar, menus..etc. Is there a way to do this?

Please note: I am using WSS 3.0 and I am not the Administrator of the sharepoint. I am only the site admin of some sites on this sharepoint. I can do some basic customization using SPD.

Basically, what I am trying to do is that I want to set up a sharepoint site, however I want to make it NOT look like a sharepoint site.Well I know this is possible, but for my case it might be just partially possible due to the limitation that I am not the Site collection admin and hence I do not have direct access to the server itself.

What I want is to hide most of the sharepoint links/menus/bars, etc and use my own buttons/hyperlinks etc .. for user to navigate on the sites.

Thanks in advance for your help/advices.

How to set a default location for saving Profiler templates

How do you change the default location for saving Profiler templates.  I've done this before, but don't recall how.  And now I'm trying to setup 2008 to reference a network location vs. the local hard drive on my PC. Thanks,  Dave

how to change the default log file location?

I recently install SQL2005 on my win 2003 server. I have 3 drives (C, D, E).  The sql is installed on D.

When I install SharePoint, it create the database for me.  However, both data & log files are default to D:\Program files......

As advised, I should separate data & log files into different drives.  How can I set the default data file to D and log file to E?  Can I detach the model database and move the current ldf file to E.  Then update the new location when I reattach the model database?  Will this change my future default log file location?   Is this save to do it this way? or I shouldn't touch the model database.  Instead, do a manual change after a new database is created?!

How to change Default My Site Template

When new user access to SharePoint for the first time and click on MySite (or access to MySiteHost), SharePoint will automatically create the Personal Site. I understand that it will use SPSPERS template (ID = 21). Can we change this default Site Template to other saved site template (that is based on SPSPERS (ID=21)?

I have tried to configure onet.xml of SPSPERS (I am aware that this might not be supported). However, it's very difficult to configure all the webparts and features that are needed for every new site created for users in onet.xml. So my idea is to save one configured personal site as Site Template, and every personal site should use this Site Template as personal site instead. What I have done now, is to manually create the Personal Site based on Site Template (using stsadm -o createsite), and it works perfectly. But it's tough to pre-create every personal site for new users. Is there any way to change the default personal site template?

And 2nd questions, is there any way to set Blog feature automatically created?

How to change the default backup location?

SQL Server puts backups in a default folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup
Is there a way to change that to a different location?

I'm using Smo.Backup object in my code to create backups. The backups I create are stored in that default folder, but I was hoping that I can change that default location without having to make code changes.
Is that possible?

Is there a way to configure a new SQL Server Profiler trace to be named same as name of the template

After I created a template and then use the template for a trace, most of the time I want the trace to be named same as or very similar to the template.   If SQL Server Profiler allows to copy the trace name, I don't mind to copy/paste but it does not.

How to change the default page base class?

I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.

I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.

Accounts in Default Template

Hi,  I'm trying to learn in the VS 2010 Express. Using the default template for ASP.Net Website. It starts the web application with an accounts folder. I'm trying to extend the "registration" or "AddUser" utilities. What I'd like to do is modify the registration by adding additional elements (i.e., address, city, ST, zip, etc.). I know I can open the database and modify the Users table and also modify the stored procedure for CreateUser.

My question is:  I don't see any reference in the page code (here's a reprint of the register.aspx.vb) that calls the procedure, or even passes in the variables from the textbox entries from the page. I must be missing something. Can someone clue me how to drill into this template to find the elements like how it communicates with the database. There are a few JQuery files. I am not yet very familiar with JQuery. Is that where I need to look? Thanks for any advice...

Public Class Register
    Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
        RegisterUser.ContinueDestinationPageUrl = Request.QueryString("ReturnUrl")
    End Sub

Protected Sub RegisterUser_CreatedUser(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles RegisterUser.CreatedUser

How do I change the default HTML code for a collection of lists and views

I have modified the html display code of some lists and content query web parts in SharePoint designer.  This works well when modifying a few lists, but I have many lists and different views with these many lists.

Is there a way to modify the template code for a site so that all my lists, views and CQWPs display identically with my modified code?  Managing these individually is not practical.

Instance and Default connection properties on SQL Server 2005

We had a sql server fail and I have been having troubles.  I compared the connection properties on the server properties and noticed that multiple default settings are no longer set.  So I'm wondering if during the failure these could have some gotten flipped.  DB's that worked all of a sudden don't work and we had to migrate to a different instance.  I have never changed any of the setings below and wonder what impact they would have if I changed them back to the default of an installed instance? ansi warning is checked ansi padding is checked ANSI NULLS is checked arithmetic abort is checked quoted identified is checked No Count is checked concat null yields null is checked Could anyone tell me how clearing these checked options will impact my db?   -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCITP: Enterprise Administrator MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, Vista, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com    Twitter @pbbergs Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

MSSQL 2008 R2: Change Server Collation Steps, with user DBs already of desired collation

On the default instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, I want to change the server collation from the usual US default SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS to an application vendor's required collation, Latin1_General_BIN.  I understand that changing the server collation is essentially the same as changing the collation of databases master and model -- is that a fair statement? But my main question is, since there are user databases on the server that I would like to preserve, can I not simply detatch the user DBs prior to performing the server collation change, and then reattach?  The database collation of the user databases is already set to Latin1_General_BIN.  This article, Setting and Changing the Server Collation, at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179254.aspx says that to preserve the user databases, I should script all DB objects out, and bulk-copy all data out, because the DBs will have to be recreated and repopulated.  Can someone explain why I ought not simply detach and reattach the user DBs, given that they are already of the desired collation (i.e., the same collation that I will be changing the server collation to)? Your help much appreciated. -Tom

SQL Server Compact loses change tracking anchors when copied to device

I have a device app that use SQL Compact and uses sync framework to synchronize to a SQL Server 2008 instance.  In order to speed up the initial synchronization of my device app, I'm creating the database (.sdf) using the sync framework on the server based on the suggestion in this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd938879.aspx#HandlingInitialSynchronizationandExpiredSubscriptions Then I get it via a WCF service down to the device app.  I'm able to download the db and it has data.  When I sync however, the database doesn't seem to think it is syncronized.  It seems to have lost it's anchors.   The following code returns an anchor for my State table on the server, but not after copying it to the device. Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks FPASQLCeClientSyncProvider).GetTableReceivedAnchor("State")
