SSAS Project property settings

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Every time I reopen my SSAS project in BIDS 2008, the 'Target Server' value on the project property page is changed to the default "localhost". Similarly, I loose the User Name & Password for my SQL Server connection under the data source. How do I resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance

Hi All, I am attempting to implement the Project Real BI solution (http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/project-real.aspx) It is designed for 2005. I am running two instances of SQL Server: 1. 2005 (default instance) 2. 2008 (named instance) AS 2005 is not installed, AS 2008 is. I have been able to get the source transactional and DW up on my SQL2005 instance. And have implemented the cube onto my AS 2008 instance. However, when i run the SSIS packages it fails when it gets to the AS_Dim_Process_MT.dtsx package - with the following error: [Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "C:\Microsoft Project REAL\ETL\ETL\ascmd.exe" " -S "(local)" -d "REAL Warehouse Sample V6 MT" -v  maxparallel=6 ProcessType=ProcessUpdate -i "C:\Microsoft Project REAL\ETL\ETL\Dim_64bit.xmla" -T "C:\Microsoft Project REAL\ETL\ETL\Dim_process_trace_20100915_165920.csv" -Tl low " at "C:\Microsoft Project REAL\ETL\ETL", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0". I am guessing it has something to with either: 1. ascmd.exe and it's compatibility with 2008, or 2. the XMLA and it's compatibility with 2008? Also, in the project real directory there is also a Dim_32bit.xmla which i think it should be picking up (i am on 32 bit). Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks, Clay   &nbs

Member_Caption property not working in SSAS 2000

Hi, I need to pass a parameter to my SSRS report which is based on an Analysis services cube (AS 2000). I have created a query which will return me the members of a hierarchy that I can pas as a perameter. Interestingly the Member_Caption property is not working. In MDX Sample application it is returing "#err" in the column and when I run the same command in my SSRS MDX editor ( I am using OLEDB connection alongwith analysis services 9.0 client) I get empty space. My query is, WITH     Member [Measures].[ParameterCaption] as '[PRODUCT].CurrentMember.Member_caption' MEMBER   [Measures].[ParameterValue] AS '[PRODUCT].CurrentMember.UniqueName' MEMBER   [Measures].[ParameterLevel] AS '[PRODUCT].CURRENTMEMBER.LEVEL.ORDINAL' SELECT   {[Measures].[ParameterCaption], [Measures].[ParameterValue], [Measures].[ParameterLevel]} ON COLUMNS , { Descendants([PRODUCT].Currentmember,1,leaves)+(Descendants([PRODUCT].Currentmember,2,leaves))} ON ROWS from   [My_Cube] Am I making any obvious mistake here ? I have used similar queries before and they have always worked (With SSAS 2005) Thanks in advance, Suman

Property Settings not behaving as I expect ?

This illustration hopefully shows how I'm trying to use an if statement on a Property Setting value 'persistLanguage'.   My intended design is to show a Language Selection dialog box the first time the application is launched after the application is installed.  Once the user has selected a language, that 'persistLanguage' Property setting will now have either English 'en-US', Spanish 'es', or Simplified Chinese 'zh-CN'.    Unfortunately, even when I launch the app initially after an uninstall of the application and re-installation, it remembers the Language used the last time the User closed the application in the Form_Closing eventHow can I use the Property Settings to have an initial blank value = "" which will then become set with the language selected in a ComboBox? which can be used the next time the application is launched and will set the localization resources automatically to that language. Thank you!

SSAS 2008 - The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension

Last week I was able to view member properties for my Product Dimension in Excel 2010 pivot tables. Suddenly, without having made any changes to the dimension (for example, in the Attribute Relationships window of the dimension), those member properties are no longer available in Excel. I get the error "The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension" when I try to select "Show Properties in Report" or "Show Properties in Tooltips" in the Pivot Table. At the same time, member properties are available for all other dimensions. I have also not made any changes to the data source connection in Excel and in any event, there is no option in the data source connection to enable or disable member property visibility. I am using BIDS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.50.1600.1). Does anybody have an idea why this might be happening?

Unable to deploy solution, getting "The OutputPath property is not set for project " error

Hi Guys,

I am having this configuation issue which I can't seem to resolve. When I am deploying my SP2010 solution to my farm Ii ge thi error mesage when I deploy a solution which contains output dll references.

Error 1 The OutputPath property is not set for project 'XXX.SharePoint2010.KnowledgeBase.Helper.csproj'.  Please check to make sure that you have specified a valid combination of Configuration and Platform for this project.  Configuration='Release'  Platform='AnyCPU'.  This error may also appear if some other project is trying to follow a project-to-project reference to this project, this project has been unloaded or is not included in the solution, and the referencing project does not build using the same or an equivalent Configuration or Platform. KnowledgeBaseSite

Analysis Services Project under VS2008 not honoring Configuration Settings ?

I have a solution with SSRS and SSAS projects in it. Since we have 3 different environments I use VS Configurations for the individual settings. In each of these environments different groups have access to these cubes. However if I deploy the project the roles on the instances are always overwritten by the settings defined in the project. And it seems it is not possible to have different role settings that for each VS configuration. Am I missing something, it should somehow be possible to use the VS configurations to have different permissions per deployment environment?!

SSAS 2008 - Date Member Property gets converted from NULL to (Blank)

Hello everyone,

I have this cube with a dimension of investment deals.  The "Deal" member has a attribute named "Latest Acquisition Date" where this date can be null for some deals.  Once the cube is processed, the null dates always get converted to "(blank)" either in BIDS cube browser or in Excel.  This happens no matter what I do to the NullProcessing property of this date attribute.

Is there any way to have SSAS display [NULL] (as in nothing at all) instead of "(blank)" ?

Check the if SSAS Roles property is used in excel connection string before returning the values

We are using Excel 2007 to connect to SSAS cubes. We have many roles for a user and all having different permission including different VISUAL TOTAL setting. We want to restrict the user so that he cannot see anything if he is not using the ROLES property in the excel connection string.

At the run time I want to know if the user who is using excel has used ROLES property or not.

Any help will be appreciated

Project Example: ASP.NET MVC + SubSonic Architecture

use of SubSonic to provide the DAL in association with some ASP.NET MVC sites and was waylaid in my original intent to throw up a post summarizing the architecture we're using for the effort. Well I've finally gotten around to it. Recall that in his fake it till you need it post, Dave provided a window on our architecture that I'll build upon here

WPF / Silverlight tutorial: Visibility property and binding

Visibility property is a very powerful and yet often overlooked property available in both WPF and Silverlight. It enables you to set Visibility of certain UIElement objects to different states like: Visible, Collapsed and Hidden (not supported by Silverlight). This tutorial shows you how to use it and how to bind to Visibility property

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

Convert English to Arabic number without changing any regional settings in .net

Well, most applications that I worked with was multilingual that supports English UI and Arabic UI.

And one of the major issue that we have faced is displaying Arabic numbers without the need of changing the regional settings of the PC.

So the code below will help you to display Arabic number without changing any regional settings.

Get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB.net - C#.net.

n this simple article you will learn that how we can get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB and C#.net.

Get Pixel Format:

Image consists of pixels to get the format of the pixel we have a property named pixel format. This property returns an enumeration of pixel format. This enumeration tells the pixel format.

To demonstrate make a window application. Drag one button and a picture box on form.

Now write the following code on Button click event:

validateRequest appears to be kicking in in MVC RC1 despite settings

After upgrading a project to the RC a System.Web.HttpRequestValidationException is thrown when posting a value containing HTML from a TextArea. I have checked that validateRequest=false in Views/web.config, and have set this in the application's root web.config. I have also created a fresh MVC project, created a simple view & controller and posted a simple html paragraph element with the same result. Call stack provided. Jscript error: Object does not support property or method

Hi, i have little knowledge on javascript but i need to use this code get from somewhere for a jquery to work.

I face this "Jscript runtime error: Object does not support property or method" whenever im trying to run this page.

In my experience, im get this error msg 9 out of 10 times i use javascript in my system.

Im using Microsoft Visual web developer 2008, i wonder if this is related to my problem, i not sure there is anything i need to add as reference or update anything.

But anyway, in short, i just couldn't use javascript code when using this development tool because of this sort of error.

Anyway, it happen that last time i tried use the same type of jquery code in another project and it seems to work well without an error.

But now when im try to use it again in this recent project i created, it come out with this error and i have no idea how to solve it even look through google and this forum.

It doesn't really seems like its the code problem itself although im not sure, because any javascript code just couldn't work.

So below is my code that i need to use.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src=&quo

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?
