Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hi there:

I am trying to open a report in the BIDS designer. However, it failed to open it and the error xml message is as follows

... Deserialization failed: The 'DataType' attribute is not declared. Line 3102, position 20.....

Any ideas how to fix it and visualize the report in BIDS?

Can't open site in Designer/ Can't open files in Designer

I'm having trouble in Designer 2007.  I can not open any sites files on sites on our prodution server.  I get "Couldn't open file ..........aspx".  On our development server I can't even open sites.  I get "Invalid folder name".  Can anyone please advise?  I have seen other posts about this behavior, but none of the solutions have worked for me.  I've uninstalled Expression Web, I don't have Front Page installed, and I ran a repair installation on Designer.  Still no luck.  Any ideas please?

We recently purchased a Crystal Reports Server 2008. Is it possible to integrate the Crystal Report Server Infoview into an ASP.NET application without prompting the user the login credentials and navigating to the particular folder.

VS2008 BIDS Report export to Excel not grouping the same as VS2005

I have a report that I created in VS2005 BIDS and got it to export to Excel to group/subtotal the same way it does in the BIDS report window.  Now I have copied the .rdl files to a VS2008 project, open it in VS2008 BIDS, made NO changes to the report format and the exported Excel file is combining what should be the 2nd and 3rd groups into 1 group.  In the BIDS window, the grouping is working correctly.  Does anyone have any ideas what has changed between 2005 & 2008 that may cause this problem?  Thanks in advance.

BIDS Query Designer very slow in VS 2008

I am in the process of upgrading my Report Server projects from 2005 to 2008.  These reports use an Analysis Services 2005 data source and have queries that are anywhere from 20 to 100 lines of MDX.  After upgrading a report, when I open or save a dataset in the Query Designer, it takes up to 20 seconds.  In 2005, this would happen almost instantly. Running SQL Server Profiler, I see that there is an extensive number (600+) of Discover events going on with the Analysis Services server while the Query Designer loads. My version of Visual Studio is 9.0.30729.1 SP and I am running Windows XP SP2. Thanks, Mitch

BIDS Query Designer very slow

BIDS Query Designer seems to be very slow while saving the query or opening the query designer when you've got quite a lot of Query Parameters. When I remove all the query parameters, the query designer seems to be running smoothly. Editing a query with about 10 to 15 query parameters takes ages this way! Is there something I can do about this?!

SharePoint Designer can't open defaul.aspx page

I tried to edit the default.aspx page of a WSS 3.0 site using SharePoint Designer and I get the following error:"The server could not complete your request.  Contact your Internet service provider or Web server administrator to make sure that the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Service installed."When I click on the 'Details' button I get:"soaperverServer was unable to process request. ---> A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Web Part Page cannot be displayed or imported because it is not registered as safe on this site. You may not be able to open this page in an HTML editor that is compatible with Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. To fix this page, contact the site administrator to have the Web Part or Web Form Control configured as safe. "I don't have any custom built Web Parts installed and I checked the web.config file to make sure that other parts are marked as safe. The weird thing is that I can successfully edit other default.aspx files on sub-sites  Thanks for any help

How to directly open activity on rehosted designer

Hello Everyone,      Let's say you have a rehosted designer that contains activities within activities.  Some of these activities are not shown on the designer because of the nesting.  Now lets say you know the name of one of the hidden nested activities and want to programmatically open the DesignView to this one activity.  How would one do this?  I was thinking about creating a miniature visual tree showing every activity in the workflow.  Clicking on an item in this mini-tree would open the main designer to that activity, this would allow for quick navigation to deeply nested activities.  Is this possible, or am I hopelessly delusional?  I'm thinking the tree itself could be fairly easily built from the xaml text itself, however causing the designer window to switch to an arbitrary activity view may be another matter. Thanks in advance everyone, Bob

BIDS wont let me edit script tasks, Package wont open without a "temp" folder in appdata???

I have a very stupid problem, because the way BIDS works is just hilariousy idiotic.    Short Story: 1) When i try to edit script tasks it will complain about "failed to create project at some random path in temp folder" and wont open anything. I cannot edit script tasks anymore. THe project is essentialy dead to me. REboot or restart wont help. I spent five hours on this project and i dont want to do all that work from scratch! 2) I cannot port my solution to antoher computer or place because it links to the files in appdata/local/temp folder of the pc for some reason. If i delete that folder or port the solution, it will complain about some file in temp folder called "3jews....tmp" and will say that solution is unopenable. Need help to resuce my project and be able to continue working on it!   Long Story: When you make a project, BIDS stores its files in a separate folder: a solution file, a project file, a package file etc. You might have thought, you can now carry your solution over by copying this folder. WRONG! The BIDS actually stores files of  the solution in /Users/name/AppData/Local/Temp folder! And It cannot open a solution/package/project without files from that folder, now what kind of idiotism is that?   It all started with BIDS not saving my script task changes, then telling me "cannot create project in folder

ReportBuilder 2.0: open server report via command line?

Hello,is it possible to launch ReportBuilder 2.0 and pass the server report to open via command line?Searching the forums I have found this blog-entry (Launching Report Builder from the command line), but I think it is for ReportBuilder 1.0, because SQL Server 2005 is mentioned. I have tried it anyway, but ReportBuilder 2.0 just starts with an empty report. If I specify a rdl-file from the local file system the report will open fine:MSReportBuilder.exe d:\temp\samplereport.rdlthanks in advance and best regards,Gerald

RDL rename breaks all references to expressions and report properties code in BIDS

I have done a 'save as' in BIDS and changed the name of the file from ordreqn-lab.rdl to ordreqn-ptheader-per-order.rdl.  The report has custom code in the report properties and expressions that are based on that code.  After renaming this report I get 100 errors all rsFieldReference errors basically saying the expressions and fields are not referring to the current dataset. Version info: SQL 2008 R2. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I did notice there is another rename bug.  Is this a bug also and if so what is the status of a fix. Please let me know if I can provide further information. I don't see a place to attach the rdl. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/564f5031-e832-4666-ab52-29391b74b955/

SSRS Query Designer (in BIDS) does not generate ANSI SQL

Hello, I have a problem when using SQL Server 2005 BIDS (Business Intelligence Development Studio) when connected to an Oracle data source.  The Query Designer generates the old Oracle SQL syntax instead of ANSI SQL.  This is with the Oracle 10g client installed. So, I would really appreciate it if anybody knows how to get the Query Designer to generate the ANSI SQL.   Thanks, Stuart
