SSRS 2005 setup compare - report performance issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

I have a SQL stored procedure that is a data source for the SSRS 2005 report. I use two servers with identical hardware, let’s call them Server1 and Server2. When I run SP directly on the Server1(SQL 2005) and Server2(SQL 2005) within SQL Server Management Studio, SP runs for 10-11 seconds on each server. When I run my SSRS report that is using the procedure within BIDS or SharePoint sites (each server has its own SharePoint site with supposedly identical setup), it runs for 20 seconds on Server1 SharePoint site and for about a minute on Server2 SharePoint site as wel as witin BIDS. There is no network traffic.

When I traced performance on both servers with SQL profiler while running report within BIDS or SharePoint, I didn’t notice anything unusual; it just takes more time to process statements on Server2. I also tested several other reports and they all perform the same on both servers with maybe only a few seconds difference (Server1 is a bit faster). I suspect that SSRS for Server2 has a different setup as the performance declines only

SSRS Report Sorting issue in Dashboard created usign Performance point services in sharepoint 2010

I have created a report in SSRS and this report is integrated within a dashboard created using performance point services in sharepoint 2010.

The report is a simple tabular report with 5 coulmns and interactive sorting is enabled on each of them.

Sorting works when the report is viewed separately but gives "Report Server Error" when I try to sort (on any column) inside the dashboard.

I have user IP instead of host name in the report server url.

Please help.

Data source not found issue in subscribed report (subscribed in ssrs 2005) , with shared data source

Recently we have upgraded from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008. Following is the issue am facing in some reports in SSRS 2008. More details are below. Any solution/ cause for the issue would be of great help.

 1) Reports having issue are the ones which were deployed in SSRS 2005 through SUBSCRIPTION (Listed under My Subscriptions) and now tried to view in SSRS 2008.

2) The reports use a shared data source with name ‘Test Center’

3) After upgrading to 2008 and when we try to open the report data source not found error is thrown. “An error occurred during client rendering. An error has occurred during report processing. The data source ‘Test_Center’ cannot be found". Why does it have ‘_’ added in the data source name !!

4) When we go to the report Properties – Data sources and check the path of the shared data source, the path is correct and the data source do exists in the path.

5) If we go to report Properties – General – Report Definition – select Edit and save the RDL. Immediately select Update and browse the saved RDL and upload. The report works fine. However the data source reference still remains same.

6) Also if we deploy a report fresh referring the same data source, that too runs fine with no issues.

Issue with Enable and Disable Parameters in SSRS 2005

Hi Guys, I am currently facing an issue with Enabling and Disabling Parameters in SSRS 2005. Here is my scenario. I am having the following 4 parameters - ParamType (has values 1,2,3), ParamMonth, ParamStartDate, ParamEndDate Now What I want is When I select ParamType = 1 and 2 then ParamMonth should be enabled and ParamStartDate and ParamEndDate should be disabled. When I select ParamType = 3 then ParamStartDate and ParamEndDate should be enabled and ParamMonth should be disabled. I have done google search on this issue and found out that this is not possible at run time. Is there any alternative for this issue? If the above is not possible, I would like to get atleast in this way : When I select ParamType = 1 and 2 then ParamMonth should show the values (from dataset named MonthDataSet and default should be the latest Month) and ParamStartDate and ParamEndDate should show as NULL. When I select ParamType = 3, then I need to enter ParamStartDate and ParamEndDate values manually or pick via datepicker and ParamMOnth should show as NULL. I am not sure whether this is possible or not....but just trying to get in some way. Here is the query used in MonthDataSet : Select Month_Code, Month_Name from MonthTable. Thanks

Character spacing issue SSRS 2005 custom font

Hello together, we are facing a strange character spacing issue in SSRS 2005 SP3 (Version 9.00.4035.00). As we export the report to a pdf file, we get unwanted spaces between each character. The report uses custom fonts. Is there any known issue related to this? I appreciate your help. Thanks!  Kind regards Moritz Mars

How to compare ssrs snapshots in report history

Is there any possibility to create a report that compares snapshots of a different report? I have created scheduled snapshots of an SSRS report in SharePoint to display monthly financial data. Now I would like to create a different report that compares these snapshots. The idea is that I can end up with a report that shows what has changed between the snapshots of the last two months. Does anybody know how to do this? I have considered using subscriptions instead of snapshots, but still cannot come up with a solution that is entirely automated.

Dear all, I have developed a couple of reports and could deploy them to different servers. All reports are working fine at all servers and test computers, however I cannot reload any of the reports on my own PC. I tried with IE7 and IE8 but nothing. Scenario: 1. Go to the report 2. Run the report 3. Change any of the paramters 4. Press View Report Button 5. No reloading nothing changes.   It seems like the system could not pass the new parameter value.   Could you please help me out? Thanks in advanc, Zoltan

SSRS in place upgrade from 2005 to 2008 issue

I did an inplace upgrade of SSRS 2005 to 2008 and now the reports are throwing the following error. The reports were all working fine and there is a datasource with the name 'Data Source Name' without the '_'.  Please help.

  • An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    • The data source 'Data_Source_Name' cannot be found. (rsDataSourceNotFound)

SSRS 2005 to 2008R2 custom code migration issue

We have an SSRS 2005 report that we upgraded to 2008R2 with custom code in the report properties code tab that no longer works.  We checked permission setting in the report server config files, checked if the data set was passig nulls and it is not, looked to see if we ignored the error if the report would render the correct value anyway despite the error and it did not, tried different code variations and referencing different system libraries without luck....we are truly baffled.  The only thing that does work is setting the total to 0 and removing the loop through the jsColl to compute the total.  Here is the code that used to work on 2005.  Any ideas why it does not work on 2008R2?  We call it in an expression =Code.getTotal()

jsColl As Microsoft.VisualBasic.Collection

SSRS 2005 Report with 7 subreports

I've SSRS 2005 Report with 7 subreports.
Toplevel report runs the query and returns recordset.

RegionID  CustID orderID  OBID     State      City       Name
69            1230    4565      75855    NY         NYC       Sam

Now i need to pass these values in subreports's query as parameter
something like
select * from Region where regionID = @RegionId (in my case it shud get 69 from upper record set.)
Likewise there are 6 more subreports where i need to pass above values as parameter.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thank you,

SSRS 2005 Render Format Excel Issue with Time Field

I have a report that uses a datetime field but gets populated only with the time. So, in SQL db, it gets stored with a default date value of 1899-12-30 12:01:01 with the correct time filled in. Report in SSRS Preview mode displays the value just fine when I use the Time format in Layout mode. I build and deploy and able to view the report in a web browser with no problem displaying the time field. But when I subscribe to the report and choose Excel render format, when I open up the Excel file from the email that was sent, I get negative decimal values. I have tried every possible Time format in SSRS but I get the same result. I also tried just the default and still gives me negative decimal values that show up as ####### in Excel.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Font/letter spacing issue when printing from SSRS 2008 report page

We are developing reports in SSRS 2008.  When printing from the SSRS report page, we are seeing that that some text is "clumping" together or spaced oddly. I have tried a variety of printers so it's not printer-specific. If you export from the SSRS page to PDF or to Word and then print, everything prints as expected.

Nothing is as good as real text/names/data, but to reproduce, simply create several text boxes with...

I used several common fonts...
Arial, 10 pt (SSRS 2008 default)
Times New Roman, 12 pt (Office 2003 default)
Calibri, 11 pt (Office 2007 default)
Verdana, 11 pt
Tahoma, 11 pt

In the example above, I used normal weight, nothing fancy... If you use bold and underline, which is common for a page/column header or footer, this issue is even more apparent.

It feels similar to the following issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/482312/ssrs-report-font-rendering-issue

A workaround would obviously be to export to PDF and then print, but these are steps that our end users shouldn't have to (and won't want to) put up with to produce reports/invoices/etc. that ultimately go

SSRS 2005/2008 - Chart with bar graph not generating on subsequent executions of report even with mo

For a report executed from Report Manager that has a bar chart component, regenerating the report via refresh or view with same input parameters either gives a different result that is garbled or an empty chart (2008) or no chart at all (2005). I have the report set up to not do any caching, so that does not seem to be the issue. Is there some chart option I may need to set to get the proper chart display.
