Authentication issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Have SSRS 2008 and SQL 2008 on one 2008 R2 server. If I go to http://servername/reports from the SSRS server the SSRS report site works. If I try from another server using http://servername/reports I'm prompted for username and password and after 3 attempts receive a blank page but if I use IP addreess instead of servername the SSRS site come up. On the SSRS server the rsreportserver config file has been changed to  RSWindowsKerberos and RSWindowsNegotiate authentication and SPN's have been setup for the SSRS server and SSRS service account (setspn.exe -a http/ServerName Domain\SSRS service account and setspn.exe -a http/ServerName FQDN\SSRS service account).

Re-authentication issue when openeing a MS Word Document

We have a SharePoint installation for one of our clients with external access enabled using https via ISA server. When accessing the portal internally within the intranet/domain its fine. In case of external access using https when users login to portal adn when they try to open a MS Word (or any Office) document they are prompted to to enter their username and password again. It happens for every MS Office document. We are using MOSS 2007, Office 2007. I know that the promp for re-authentication is is due to the fact that office try to open a new session but is there any work around to overcome this.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Issue with Forms Authentication

I'm in the middle of converting an intranet application to use forms authentication. The authentication process works fine for the core application and all the nested classic asp pages. However, my nested asp.net applications do not work. I have mapped their web.configs to the correct login url. If I attempt to access them after logging in, I am automatically redirected to the homepage of the intranet application. If I try to access them directly, I am redirected to the login screen, as I should be, and then the intranet homepage after the login process, instead of the page I need to access.

At first, I thought there might be some remnant of the security processes in the nested applications, but it does it for applications that have no security processes other than the one for the core intranet.

Since this is my first crack at using forms authentication, I'm assuming I've missed some step. Any ideas?

Here is the section of my web.config:

<authentication mode="Forms">

      <forms loginUrl="~/folder/loginpage.aspx" name="Cookie Name"></forms>

      <deny users="?" />
      <allow users="*"/>

I have an application that requires windows authentication to login, the problem is that every time an user logs in under IE and win XP, the username is pre filled with the IP address of the server as instance and the username. I need to replace the server ip with  XXXX instance name instead of doing this manually.

Could anyone pleas help me out with this one?

LDAP - directory entry issue with out user and password using impersonate and windows authentication

Hi All I am using the below code to fetch the user information from LDAP             DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://DEV");             DirectorySearcher searcher =  new DirectorySearcher(entry);             SearchResult result;             searcher.Filter = "samaccountname=testuser";             result = searcher.FindOne(); here i am using windows authentication always and along with that when i enable the impersonate = true ,  the code fails at "result = searcher.FindOne();" with message "object reference not set to instance of an object "  also with the same code if i give the username and password along with the impersonate tag >> it works  or if i am using the user and password along with the DirectoryEntry  object then also it will work  but it fails with same user that i gave in impersonate tag / directory entry object with windows authentication enabled  and the  user logged to the application and no username and password tag in directory entry / impersonate tag  Interesting thing is that  in our development server ,  i am able to execute the same code with out user name p

Very Wierd User Authentication Issue

We recently had a new starter for whom HR assigned the wrong Windows user name (his initials are P.S. and he got the username pc12, which should have been given to another guy who was starting at the same time...) It took a little while before this came to light and by this time the user had logged on, accessed a bunch of applications etc... Eventually, everything gets straightened out in AD and both users now have exactly the right records. The only problem is SharePoint. Profile information is fine, but (and this is the weird part) when P.S. accesses the site, he gets 'Welcome Pxxxx Cxxxx' (the other guy's name). We have been trying to resolve this for days now, so there has been plenty of time for any required replication and there have been about 100 iis resets. Now get this, when P.S. accesses other internal Web sites, he's authenticated fine - it's just SharePoint! I sense a support call coming on, but if anyone else has seen anything like this it would be great to hear any ideas.

Cannot Login with Forms Based Authentication to SharePoint 2010 - Issue with the SecurityTokenServic

Please be advised I have followed the steps on http://donalconlon.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/configuring-forms-base-authentication-for-sharepoint-2010-using-iis7/. I have tried to fix the following issue for a week using different farms and SharePoint 2010 installations, however I am getting the following error when trying to authenticate using Forms Based into a Claims site: Cannot get Membership Provider with name FBARoleProvider The membership provider for this process was not properly configured. You must configure the membership provider in the .config file for every SharePoint process. 1. I am certain the membership provider is configured in the SecurityTokenServiceApplication webservice as I can manage users and roles in IIS7 using the SecurityTokenServiceApplication website. 2. I am certain that membership provider is configured in the both the Claims Web Application and Central Admin as I can manage users and roles in IIS7 using their websites. 3. I know the issue is the SecurityTokenServiceApplication service as I had to set <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> to get the error above. 4. I can log into the Claims Based Application using windows authentication, however I am unable to see the users on the people picker despite that I can see them from the application's site on IIS

Any idea why this might be happening? Here is some code:     <authentication mode="Forms">            <forms name="login" loginUrl="Login.aspx" />        </authentication>        <authorization>            <allow roles="auditor"/>            <allow roles="approver"/>            <allow roles="user"/>            <deny users="?"/>        </authorization>        <identity impersonate="true"/>protected Boolean ValidateUser(String strUsername, String strPassword)        {            //Return true if the username and password is valid, false if it isn't             &n

Sharepoint Claim Based Authentication Web Service issue

Hi all,

I have Configured sharepoint 2010 foundation to use claim based authentication with sqlmembership provider.

When i try to consume the webservice i get access denied error. The service i wish to consume is http://<server>:25757/_vti_bin/usergroup.asmx.

I tried to find out the issue i cannot consume the service as it redirects me to the login page. I also tried to pass the network credentials but same error. (Server was unable to process request. ---> Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

When i try to consume the same service of another web application (sharepoint 2010 foundation) it works. Only difference between the two web application is classic authentication with NTLM and other is CLAIM based authentication windows (with NTLM) / forms.

Authentication Issue with "External Content Types"

I am attempting to add a new External Content Type (a SQL Server DB) (using Sharepoint Designer).  I click "Add Connection" and select SQL Server as the type.  I then enter the Database Server, DB name, and tick "Connect with User's Identity."  When I click OK, I get an error from Designer saying "Cannot Establish Connection to the Data Source. An unexpected internal error occurred in the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service:  The specified user or domain group was not found."

1.  What username/password is being used for this and where is it configured?  (ie what user or domain group has not been found?)

2.  Is there a way to simply use SQL Server authentication for this?

I am logged on to the machine as a domain administrator, who has sysadmin, etc rights to the SQL Server, and who has rights as Administrator in Sharepoint (in other words should have rights to do just about anything).  The Authentication Type for the site is set to Windows using Integration Windows Authentication using NTLM.

INTERESTINGLY, I CAN access the database using "Data Sources" using SQL Server authentication.

Check out issue - authentication modal dialog on every checkout, Explorer View or Open With Windows

I got users that have an issue when trying to check out document, using the Explorer View or using Open With Windows Explorer.

Users are on Vista, IE 7 and Win 7, IE8

I have seen this Warning in the Application Event log:

"WMI ADAP was unable to retrieve data from the PerfLib subkey: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SSO\Performance\Library, error code: 0x80041009"

Any help would be very much appreciated!

ASP.NET Forms Authentication Issue - IE8

I've recently noticed a problem that prevents users from logging into my website when running IE8 on Vista.  I think it is a security issue that prevents the authentication cookie from working.  There seems to be an issue with either of these two methods:

Authentication works ok in FireFox and Google Chrome running on the same Windows Vista machine with the IE8 problem.  Authentication works ok on a 2003 server computer running IE7.  I'm pretty sure authentication was working previously in IE8 - maybe the issue is related to a recent hotfix?

I managed to get authentication to work in IE8 by adding my website to the "trusted sites" zone.  Also, it worked ok when I disabled "Protected Mode".

Has anybody else had this problem?  Also, is there a way to get this working without forcing people to make changes to their IE security settings?

 Many Thanks,

Website converts to windows authentication issue

I've been having an occasional issue with my website "converting" to site that requires windows authentication.  This happens every few months and the only way to fix it to recycle the application pool.

This issue is actually happening with a hosting company and my site is on a shared server.  I believe I have my own application pool and I'm able to recycle it myself using their web administration tools.  Fortunately,  I know how to fix and have the ability to do it myself but it is embarrassing when my site now longer works and I have a client email there is a problem.

Anybody have any ideas?  I'm running .NET 3.5 with latest SP.  Thanks!

Excel Services data connection issue. Single environment, none authentication

I really need someone's help to configure my SharePoint 2007/ Excel services connectioon to SSAS 2008. It surely cannot be that complicated???

MOSS on server 1
SSAS 2008 cube on server 1
Trusted data provider created (OLE DB, MSOLAP.4)
Trusted data connection library created
Trusted File location created - children trusted, allow external data = "Trusted data connection libraries and embedded"
Unattended Service Account - setup

I use Excel and create a new .odc file with athenticated type = NONE and save it to the Trusted data connection library. Using the odc I open a new workbook. I firstly get a security warning saying that "MS Office has identified a potential security concern. Data connections have been blocked. If you choose to enable data connections..."

I click on Enable, and now have access to my cube. I create a pivit table and chart and publish the workbook back to a child folder in the Trusted File location. All okay so far!!

Now I open the new workbook, and as soon as I try and interact with it, I get the dreaded error "Unable to retrieve external data for the following connections:

The data sources may be unreachable, may not be responding, or may have denied you access

Verify that data refresh is enabled for the

Issue on HTTP/HTTPS authentication

I had enabled claims Authentication and configured Forms Based Authentication (FBA) with membership provider in SharePoint 2010.
The logged-on user is kicked out when the page is redirected from https to http.
FedAuth cookie is not valid after redirecting from https to http.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Windows authentication issue - unable to run report from sharepoint library

I have an extended Sharepoint web application which allows windows authentication access and in the Reporting Services Integration section in Central admin i have selected windows authentication.  I have written a SQL report which uses an XML datasource and uses windows authentication to connect to the sharepoint lists.

  • The datasource connection string is: http://<my windows authentication site>/_vti_bin/lists.asmx
  • The reportserver url i've given in my report solution is http://<my windows authentication site>/

I can preview the report from within Business Intelligence Studio and it returns the data correctly.  I created a document  library and set it up for reports, deployed my solution and tried to run the report but i get the error :

An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot impersonate user for data source 'MyDataSourceName'(rsErrorImpersonatingUser) .  This data source is configured to use Windows integrated security. Windows integrated security is either disabled for this report server or your report server is using Trusted Account mode. (rsWindowsIntegratedSecurityDisabled)
