Storage system for SSIS packages(SQL Server , File System, SSIS package store)

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hello SSIS experts,

I just wanted to confirm the difference between SQL Server storage and SSIS Package store for packages. As seen from the BIDS, the SQL Server list packages from msdb(point to note is the folder MSDB is not visible here) and SSIS Package store(MSDB folder is visible) and the authentication is defaulted to Windows (disabled)  from both the file system and msdb?  Just wanted to know if there are any other differences to be noted or request to let me know if there are any corrections to be madein my views?

Happy to help! Thanks. Regards and good Wishes, Deepak.

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Problems running a bat file within a SSIS package

I have a ssis package which has 2 tasks, first it builds an excel sheet with data on the server from where I am running the ssis pkg and the second task (a sql process task), runs a bat. the bat file that basically copies the  excel sheet created from the first step to another server. Problem is that the ssis pkg runs succesful when i run it from BIDS, bust when I run is as ajon, it gets hung. It completes the first step, it is the sescond step that is get hung. I noticed that when i run from BIDs, it does come up with a window open file - security warning and says the publisher could not be verified, are you sure you want to run this software. why does it do that ??? the file I am asking to run is a .bat file. it should automatically use the cmd.exe app to run the bat file. Please help !!!   Thanks in advance.

Execute SSIS PAckage on Remote Server

I've seen several posts pertaining to this topic, but none of them covers what I'm having an issue with. I'm trying to create a "master job server". Essentially, I want to control all maintenance jobs from one central location. I've created SSIS packages that handle full backups, transaction log backups, index rebuilding, etc. on all of my production boxes. I've stored those packages in SQL Server. What I'd like to do now is create a separate job for each of those tasks on one central SQL Server and run those packages from there. I've been successful in creating a test job. The only step in the job is an SSIS PAckage execution step. The step successfully found the package I want to execute on the target server. When the job ran, I got the follwoing error: The job failed.  Unable to determine if the owner (ADMINSYS\arobinsf) of job SFO2PQE03 - Database Backup (FULL) has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'ADMINSYS\arobinsf', error code 0x2751. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 15404)). I want to make sure this job is executing on the remote server and not trying to execute locally. Is there something I'm missing in the set up of this job? I should also mention that the SSIS packages were created in SQL2K5, but I'm executing them from SSMS for SQL2K8. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! A. M. Robinson

Loading Decimal Number From Excel into SQL Server 2005 using SSIS Package

If you have an excel spreadsheet that displays a number .02 (because it is formated) but internally it is stored as .2654329 and you want to load .2654329 how can you do that in the SSIS package?  When we load the spreadsheet it is loading .02.  Is there some kind of option in the SSIS package to tell the package to load the internal number?lcerni

SSIS - XML Source to SQL Server Destination. How to handle new tags in xml file?

Hi, I've created a SSIS package, which reads my XML file using XML Source, using SCD(Slowly Changing Dimension) to identify whether to do an Insert/Update and everything's fine so far. But there are chances that my xml file will have new tags added apart from what are already there. So In that case, i'm not able to figure out whether to alter the table to add new column or something like that. Need your suggestion. Thanks in advance Vijay

Slow startup of SSIS package if started using a SQL Server job

Hello all,   We have noticed in our environment slowness when starting SSIS packages from SQL Server jobs. I did a quite detailed study on when the slowness actually occurs and what are the consequences. Here are the results.   The SSIS package execution is slow if all the following is true: The package is started from a job. If started directly as a SSIS package, the execution is fast. The job is running on a 64 bit Windows Server (SQL Server 2005 SP2). The SSIS package and the job are either on the same server or on different servers (the second server is SQL Server 2005 SP1). If the job is run on a 32-bit workstation (Windows XP SP2) the execution is fast (the SSIS package still being on the server). The package contains tasks. §         If there are no tasks, just an empty sequence container, the execution is fast. §         If a package that has no tasks has logging into the database configured, the execution is fast. §         Slowness has been verified with A) a package having a single Execute SQL statement and B) a package having a Send Mail task. It doesn't seem to matter which user account is used on when running the job.   The slowness happens in several locations, e.g. (there are also others, at least the following have been verified) There is exactly 30 seconds lag between starting the job (as seen from job history) and when PreValidate (as seen in the sy

if ssis package writes to excel file that might be open by a user

I have written a package that writes to an excel file to a network folder. Eventually this package will run as a job. What is the best way to handle the situation where someone opens the file or inadvertantly leaving it open while the package is running and and stop the package.? No one needs to modify or write anything to this file after it is finished

SSIS package - change Web reference's addres from Configuration file?

Greetings. The SSIS packages provide very nice options to configure them from an XML file, which allows to change credentials, database names etc w/o editing the package. This lets me, say, transfer package from one server to another or from test to production w/o any hassle - just changing the xml. Problem is, i need to acces a web service in my package, and built-in SSIS web service task is useless and just SUCKS. It fails to work even with miscrosoft's own sharepoint web service. So, i have to use scripting task. And scripting task uses "web reference" to access web services, which in turn gives no way to change it's url.  So, if i want to test and then move to production, i'll have to edit my package to change the web reference url from "testserver:5123/mywebservice" to "productionserver:81/webservices/mywebservice". And then change it again to test it again. Etc. Is there a solution to this? A way to programmatically change web reference's url from inside scripting task?
