NetworkStream.BeginRead hangings without exception when connection is down

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Im calling the async NetworStream.BeginRead.  If the portserver im taking to is off this call just hangs - I dont get an exception nor is my callback called reporting 0 bytes read.  If in this state I try to send on the stream then my callback is called and EndRead throws an exception - thats fine - but I cant get that behaviour unless I try a write.  The streams underlying socket doesnt show the connection as down.

How to detect that the connection is down?  Do I have to poll the streams socket?  Is there any other way?

Exception: "The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly." (sometime

I have a windows app connecting to a webservice.  In some situation(s) (haven't narrowed it down enough), I get the following exception: The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly. When this exception is thrown, it is calling a method of a web reference. Now the situation that we experience this is on a laptop in the field that is using a WWAN connection in at least one location.  It works fine in the lab at the office.  Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Rare exception: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcib

Our .NET 2.0 app relies upon the ability to download xml webpages from URLs.  At startup, we have about 6 boxes in the wild (out of thousands) that are seeing the following inner exception when they try to download an xml page.  System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. (Inner: ) System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. They can get to the URL in their browser just fine, so we know our server is working.  Furthermore, the embedded WebBrowser control in our app can pull up webpages just fine, so I don't think their firewall is blocking our app.  I'm hoping it's just some diagnosible configuration issue.  Here is the snippet of code that does the downloading: WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(fileToDownload.SourceUri);request.CachePolicy = new RequestCachePolicy(RequestCacheLevel.NoCacheNoStore);request.Timeout = (int)DefaultTimeout.TotalMilliseconds;request.Method = "HEAD";WebResponse response = request.GetResponse(); Nothing revolutionary there. (I've also tried it without the HEAD request, without keepalive, and using HTTP 1.0).  And here is the exception: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. The socket connection was aborted Exception

Hi All,

whenI use wcf, the client recorded the exception below.

if server and client deploy same computer the exception can't occur.

if server and client deploy different computer the exception can occur.

The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '01:40:29.2170000'.

I am perttymuch sure tat its not because of time out. I have given the config like this in client side and service side

NetTcpBinding tcpBinding = new NetTcpBinding();

tcpBinding.SendTimeout =

EXCEPTION HANDLING IN C#

Every self-respected programmer should include exception handling techniques. Sometimes your application will generate an error. Regardless of who was responsible for this error, the programmer or the user, it is up to the first to include the necessary exception handling techniques to keep his/her program from crashing. The .Net environment provides useful techniques for avoiding disastrous errors such as try-catch statements and user-defined exceptions.

Global Exception Handling with ASP.NET

After your global exception handler has done its work, you'll want to redirect the users of your website to a friendly page that tells them that something has gone wrong, and then provide them with customer support information as well as a link back to your web application's home page.

SQL Server 2005 Try and Catch Exception Handling

I'm pretty excited to see that there is some real error handling for T-SQL code in SQL Server 2005. It's pretty painful to have your wonderfully architected .NET solution tainted by less-than-VBScript error handling for stored procedures in the database. The big difference being the addition of TRY..CATCH blocks. Let's take a look:

SQL Connection String

We can learn or know how can we connect the database from our .net. This will help for freshers or .NET beginners!

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Encapsulation
Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

 I have two SQL Server instances installed.

 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Error while using exception handling block el 4.1

Hi Folks,

i am trying to use tyhe exception handling block of Enterprise library 4.1.

I just createda polisy and used IndexOutOfRangeException and added a replace handler and a logging handler to it.

I am using the NotifyRethrow PostHandlingAction to the exception.

During runtime I am getting an exception on the HandleException event, The exception is added below:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

Line 42:             catch (Exception ex)
Line 43:             {
Line 44:                 bool reThrow = ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(ex, "ReplacePolicy");

userprincipal.changepassword throws exception

Hi all,

      userprincipal.changepassword(oldpassword, newpassword);

gives error: that is Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070547)

but userDirectoryEntry.invoke("ChangePassword", new object[] { oldpassword, newpassword });

      userDirectoryEntry.CommitChanges works fine.

Any one please tell me the reason behind this.
