"Requested Service not found" on client when restart service with a .NET MarshalByRef remoting proxy

I have a client application that uses a single remoting entry point (a MarshalByRef class) to access a range of other MarshalByRef services on the server.

The server:

public class ServiceManager : MarshalByRefObject, IServiceManager
  IService1 service1;
  public ServiceManager(IService1 service1)
    this.service1 = service1;
  public override object InitializeLifetimeService()
    return null; // never expire

  public IService1 GetService1()
    return service1;

public class Service1 : MarshalByRefObject, IService1
  public override object InitializeLifetimeService()
    return null; // never expire

Error Build: Type or namespace could not be found, when referencing a web service

Hello, I'm new in writing C# application in Visual Studio 2008. I'm currently writing a web application for CRM 4.0 Reporting Service rendering. I reference my web application to our Reporting Service web service http://reportservername /ReportServer/ReportExecution2005.asmx and name it 'RSWebReference'. Then I want to reference it in my code: Using RSWebReference; Not sure why, but I cannot build my solution, saying "The type or namespace name 'RSWebReference' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)". I read this thread in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/74f70e30-83e8-4817-b5e0-7729450730a1 that the website probably is using .net 1.1, and I should change it to .net 2.0. However, I think the website is already using 2.0. Is it probably because I'm using VS 2008? How can I tell and change if the website is using 1.1 or 2.0? Or could I be doing something wrong? Thanks in advanced for your help! -Elizabeth K.

The requested service, 'http://localhost/MyServices/Test.svc' could not be activated Exception....

User Profile Service - "The specified user or domain group was not found"

Hi there, I had configured the User Profile Service and all was working well (Syncing with AD etc.). However, something has gone wrong. The services still appear to be running; both Forefront Identity Manager services are running, and the services show as 'Started' in Central Administration. The 'My Profile' and 'My Site' options have disappeared though, and browsing to the My Sites page results in an error (Could not load user profile). To make matters much worse, it seems to have also broken the Central Administration site. If I try and go to 'Manage Service Applications' I get another error (The specified user or domain group was not found). This error seems to come up on around half of the pages on the Central Administration site. Looking up the error (abb6b174-0f71-413a-a27a-41cdc87b66d0) in the logs I find this: 09/06/2010 15:35:45.44  w3wp.exe (0x0868)                        0x06A0 SharePoint Portal Server       User Profiles                  cm6y High     User Profile Application Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileA

SMTP Service not found in services folder

I am having a bit of a challenge.  I have Sharepoint 2010 and picked SMTP in the roles option.  Then I installed IIS 6.0 manager.  It installed correctly.  I was then going through and creating the SMTP instructions that I found on technet.  The bottom line is when I goto services to make sure it was turned on automatically (as technet directed me to do) I could not find the SMTP service.

Does anyone know why this is?  I had uninstalled reinstalled SMTP but it still does not show up.

RESTful WCF Service endpoint not being found by client

I created a RESTful WCF service which I plan to call from a client app (a custom toolpart in a Sharepoint web part), but while I can access everything just fine from a browser the client throws this error:

EndpointNotFoundException: There was no endpoint listening at http://mymachine:3217/Services/CtmsService.svc that could accept the
message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.
---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

My service's contract looks like this:

public interface ICtmsService
  [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/GetAllSites")]
  Dictionary<string, int?> GetAllSites();
...and the configuration looks like this: (which is more complicated due to needing dependency injection via Spring.NET to work)

The Requested Failed with HTTP Status 404:Not found when i access the webmethod in webservices

Managed Metadata Service: Cannot check for changes because no EMM application proxy can be found

We have a managed metadata service with two owners. Both of them can't change anything to the term store anymore. The moment they try they get access denied:

The user doesnt have enough permissions. When looking into the log of SharePoint i found the following message:

Cannot check for changes because no EMM application proxy can be found

When I try to add another administrator using the Install_Admin account (who is farm admin) I get the same message that the user doesnt have enough permissions.

Our term store is setup in multiple languages with Dutch being the primary one.

Any help much appreciated.

The requested service, 'http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc/ac

I just installed SP 2010 and was running fine.  All the sudden I was getting a 500 respnose when I would browse to a site.  The only event that I can recall that might have sparked this issue was changing the administrator password.  The administrator account is not tied to SharePoint as a service account etc.  I have installed all the necessary updates / hotfixes that are required for installation. Here's the error from the log. Thanks.

An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The requested service, 'http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc/actas' could not be activated. See the server's diagnostic trace logs for more information..

When I go to the URL in the error I get the following error:

[InvalidOperationException: The farm is unavailable.]
   Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPSecurityTokenServiceManager.get_Local() +15784381
   Microsoft.SharePoint.IdentityModel.SPSecurityTokenServiceConfiguration..ctor() +26

WCF SharePoint 2010 - Service Directive Could Not Be Found

I was following the instruction through MSDN on Custom WCF Service through SharePoint.

I followed fairly closely (just getting the URL fuction), but I'm getting the error:

The type 'VenURLService.WCFService, VenURLService, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=facac471d5ba3278', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive could not be found.

The name of my project is VenURLService.

My VenURLService.vb looks like this:

Imports Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Services
Imports System.ServiceModel.Activation

Namespace WCFService

  <BasicHttpBindingServiceMetadataExchangeEndpointAttribute()> _
  <AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode:=AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Required)> _
  Public Class VenURLService
    Implements IVenURLService1

    Public Function GetCurrentWebURL() As String

SerialPort.Open Insufficient system resource exist to complet the requested service

SerialPort.Open call in my application crashes intermittently on only one laptop of all machines with the following exception.

Error. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

at System.IO.InternalResources.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode,...)

at System.IO.PortsSerialStream..ctor(String portName,...)

at System.IO.Ports.SerialPort.Open()

I am clueless how to debug into this issue, as this happens only on one of the laptops and that too intermittently.

I doubt it is a corrupt kernel issue or ??!!!

Can anyone point me to a direction that can help me resolve this issue or reveal a hidden bug.

Discovery on IIS hosted WCF service no endpoints found untill site is visited

I have a problem which makes the whole discovery (.net 4) idea useless.
I got self-hosted wcf services with discovey working so I now at least something about it, however, when I create a website with a .svc file, configure the web.config well and host it in IIS something goes wrong.

I have my windows forms client program to test the discovery and it doesn't return any endpoints, not after iisreset, not after checking twice, tree-times with long timeouts. I have to manually "visit" my .svc file in the website by browser to kind of activate it and than my client recogizes it immediately.

Because you have to visit the service first, you already have to know what the url is and makes discovery pointless in this case (and I need it so much)

What can I do about this?

Web Service cannot be found/referenced in Web Application project (working in Web Site)

Hi Everyone,

I am learning about the web service technology, and I tried to create my first Ajax style web service following the video tutorial by Joe Stagner (http://www.asp.net/general/videos/ajax-style-services-with-microsoft-visual-web-developer-2008)

The tutorial is quite basic, we simply create a web service, and call it from Javascipt in the same program.  But while I can create the web service no problem (testing the WSDL file from browser works perfectly), I cannot call it within Javascript.  Tellisence do not kick in, and when I run the program anyway, a Javascript error claims that the web service I created cannot be found.

After much frustration, I noticed that my program is created as a Web Application, while the tutorial is created under a Web Site.  So I created a Web Site too and everything works.

So the question is, what setting(s) do I have to change in a Web Application for this to work?  I guess an even broader question is, what differences between Web Application and Web Site do I need to be fully aware of, so this kind of problem do not occur in the future?

Thank you very much!

Windows Service Applications Tutorials

You can easily create services by creating an application that is installed as a service. For example, suppose you want to monitor performance counter data and react to threshold values. You could write a Windows Service application that listens to the performance counter data, deploy the application, and begin collecting and analyzing data.
