C++ call C# works with dot net 4 but not with dot net 3.5

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Encountered a strange behavior. With the following code.
DropTarget.cpp
        logit(_T("pre DropTarget::OnDrop m_EmailContent->FillByFileDrop"));
        this->m_EmailContent->FillByFileDrop(fileName.AllocSysString(), &result);
        logit(_T("pre DropTarget::OnDrop m_Parent->OnEmailDropped(result)"));
EmailContent.cs
        public int FillByFileDrop(string fileName)
        {
            //MessageBox.Show("FillByFileDrop");
            logit("FillByFileDrop");

when targeting dotnet 4 the following is logged (The FillByFileDrop indicates that the C# code is executed)
pre DropTarget::OnDrop m_EmailContent->FillByFileDrop
FillByFileDrop
pre DropTarget::OnDrop m_Parent->OnEmailDropped(result)

when targeting dotnet 3.5 the following is logged, (FillByFileDrop is skipped even though it is the same code)
pre DropTarget::OnDrop m_EmailContent->FillByFileDrop
pre DropTarget::OnDrop m_Parent->OnEmailDropped

Windows Service crashing on call to unmanaged code, even though console app version works

I have a C# program that at some point calls 2 functions from an unmanaged dll using p/invoke.  Everything works fine when I'm running in a console app.  When I compile the same program as a windows service and run it, it crashes.  The console app and service should be identical as far as my code is concerned... all either program does is create an object from another assembly of mine and run a Start() method on it.

I have used VS2010 to debug the managed and unmanaged code, and when I step through the Console app everything looks great.  When I attach the debugger to the service, i can step through the first function in the unmanaged code, control returns to the managed code, and then later when it comes to the point where it calls the second unmanaged function, the process terminates immediately before the debugger steps into the first line of unmanaged code.  There are no exceptions that I can see, and the only thing written to the event log is the generic "service terminated unexpectedly" message.  Running "sc query" on the command line lets me know the win32_exit_code is 1067.

Im running everything in .net 4, on winxp 32bit.  The serivce is running as Local System ideally, but the same behavior exists when I run it under my user account.

first SSL request is failing for some clients, but the second SSL call works

I've got a WinForms client (using ASMX generated proxies) calling an SSL secured WCF service. Without SSL, everything works. With an SSL certificate on the server, some clients fail, but only the 1st web service request. If that same client sends the exact same request a 2nd time, it will work. This happens repeatedly for the same clients.

The client exception will be System.Net.WebException. Unable to connect to the remote server. System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An invalid argument was supplied

My assumption is the SSL cert is setup incorrectly, but I'm not sure why it only fails for a few clients (although repeatedly), and why it will work the 2nd request?

EDIT Also, if I turn on Fiddler to try and see the messages across the wire, then the exception does not happen.

Thanks, casey

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Here I am looking to explain how to call page methods using jQuery. Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

How to call an .exe file in .net

Sometimes a developer has to call an EXE from another EXE. While calling EXE there can be a requirement to pass parameter.

Code works on aspx but not ascx

Not sure which category to put this question in, so I will put it in here.

Just to give you an idea of the layout of my solution, I have the main project, along with 2 class libraries, BLL and DAL.  (Business Logic Layer and Data Access Layer)

The BLL refers to the DAL and the main project refers to the BLL.

I had a test website and the code worked fine, but the same code will not work on the real project. The only difference is that in the test project, the code was on an aspx code behind, whereas in the real project, it is an ascx code behind (Web User Control )

The code is:

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString
        Dim recordEntry As New UserRecord(connectionString)
        recordEntry.UserName = "TestName"
        recordEntry.BMI = bMI
        recordEntry.BMR = bMR
        recordEntry.FTM = fTM
        recordEntry.TDEE = tDEE
        recordEntry.TodayDate = dateForToday
        recordEntry.InsertRecord()

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString

HttpHandler works with Visual Studio Development Server debugging, but not otherwise

Hi all,

I'm new to HttpHandlers.  I am writing an HttpHandler that reads uploaded files directly from the request stream to provide progress that can be queried using an AJAX request.  For large files, this seems to be faster than having ASP.NET load the file contents into Request.Files and then streaming the file from there to wherever it goes (Linq to SQL into a VARBINARY column in an SQL Server database.)

My HttpHandler works perfectly when I'm debugging using the Visual Studio Development Server, but doesn't work otherwise.  The application pool for this application in IIS 7 is set to run in Classic Mode, and the Handler Mappings screen in IIS says that I must manage managed handlers in system.web/httpHandlers.

I set up in my applications Web.config file.

<add verb="GET,POST" path="*.upload" type="Namespace.For.UploadHandler, AssemblyForUploadHandler"/>

It works great, so long as I don't debug with the "Use Local IIS Web server" option.

What else do I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks!

Call MOM: Instrument and Monitor Your ASP.NET Apps Using WMI and MOM 2005

The current version of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) satisfies many current and future manageability requirements. In this article Michael Jurek demonstrates how WMI provides important system management capabilities and develops a WMI-aware monitoring solution you can use to instrument your ASP.NET applications. He then introduces the capabilities of MOM 2005 that allow you to monitor these instrumented applications.

Call SQL Stored Procedure Asyncronously

Hello,

I have a C# web page that calls a stored procedure. The page passes few parameters to the stored procedure and call it. The stored procedure does so many time consuming tasks on a huge number of database records but does not return any value.

Since the page is not expecting any return from the stored procedure, I want to execute the stored procedure asyncronously so that the user can continue working on the web page and other web pages while the stored procedure is running in the background. Also, I do not want the web server processes to be busy with the running stored procedure.

Any help, please.

Best regards,

Imran

Linq2Sql error: "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed."

I've read up on this error from other posts and on other sites, but haven't found a solid resolution to the issue yet. My setup is as follows:

I have a RepositoryBase class that fields certain db calls that all repositories need to perform. In one such call, "GetSecurityGroup", it works most of the time, but will seemingly at random throw an exception with the error "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." All other Repository classes inherit from this one, and they all use the same DataContext object, which I understand isn't thread safe. Since there could be multiple calls to the DataContext object on the same page, perhaps one is using the DataContext when the next tries to do so. I'm not sure. What can I do to ensure this doesn't happen?

FAST Search for SP2010 scope setting works but not getting results.

Hello,

I am trying this from last two days , but it does not work. I have created two scopes for FAST Search Query SSA , they appear in search center , but I am not getting any results back. I see them being fired in the FAST query log.

First one is a simple one:

New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope -SearchApplication "FAST Query SSA" -Name DCO -Description "All DCO Documents" -DisplayInAdminUI 1 -ExtendedSearchFilter "ContentSource:DCO"

Content source is a managed property. and i can just query "contentsource:dco" from the text box which gives me results.

When I fire the query i see it in FAST Search query log

"GET /cgi-bin/search?qtf_keyword:context=ssgid%3a%3a4d020606-8532-45d8-b09a-db11283cccb4%7cSPS-Location%3a%3a%7cSPS-Responsibility%3a%2c%3a%7c&rpf_navigation:hits=50&rpf_navigation:enabled=True&spell=suggest&qtf_parsekw:timezone=10&type=kwall&qtf_teaser:dynlength=185&resubmitflags=8192&language=en&query=CASHIERING&sortby=%2bdefault&qtf_lemmatize=True&offset=0&version=14.0.0.0&collapseon=batvdocumentsignature&collapsenum=1&rpf_sortsimilar:enabled=False&qtf_parsekw:locale=eng&hits=10&rpf_navigation:navigators=format(cutoff%3d0%2f0%2f20%2csort%3dfrequency%2fdescending)%2csitename(sort%3dfrequency%2fdescending)
