.net interface to COM server fails with 0x80008005 (cross post)

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Sorry about cross posting...but after posting this question in another forum I realized that this is probably the correct place to pose the question:

I have a native c++ COM server that exposes COM interfaces. I can successfully use a native c++ client application to get and use the exposed interfaces from the server.

When I use a .net client with a reference to the server, I get the following error when I try to create an instance of the server:

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} failed due to the following error: 80080005 Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE)).

...even though the COM server starts and runs successfully (and only takes about 1 or 2 seconds to startup).

Each time the .net client tries to create an instance of the server, a new instance starts - any existing instances are ignored.

BUT I get the above error only when the server is registered as a local server. If I register the server as a windows service, the .net client can successfully get and use the interfaces just fine. It doesn't matter if the service is in the 'local system' account or my login account, the client/server interaction works when the COM server is registered as a servic

server side does not save data when using POST data to another URL using WebRequest

I am using a IIS 7.5 on Windows 7. I have a simple application that uses System.Net.WebRequest to POST data to another URL (in fact, the server side URL is on my local computer and it is hosted in IIS 7.5).

  1.  The problem is the server does not save data from client although on the client side codes when I debug and I see the OK message return from the code line

response.StatusDescription; // this has value of "OK"
2. How can I debug the server code side where to receive the request from client side who posts the data ?

The following is the codes for client who posts data using System.Net.WebRequest, and codes for server side who received posted data to save to database.

Client side codes: // also run on my local computer

SQL Server 2008 R2 fails after Windows XP Pro SP3 install

We recently encountered an issue with SQL Server 2008 R2 failing to run after the upgrade from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3. This was tested and reproduced (with varying results) on more than one computer. Steps to reproduce this. On a Windows XP Pro machine with Service Pack 2 installed, install SQL Server 2008 R2. Next upgrade Windows to Service Pack 3. Now upon opening SSMS or trying to start the SQL server service you receive the following message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". In some instances reinstalling/repairing SQL Server 2008 R2 does fix the issue.  In other cases the installer crashes and you need to use msizap to clean it up before you can reinstall.  In other cases you do not receive any errors at all. After testing in multiple virtual machines it looks like the cleaner the Windows install the more likely you are to run into this issue.  On machines with most or all windows updates (prior to SP3) installed you do not necessarily even get the failure.  On machines with just Windows XP Pro SP2 installed with no additional updates you get the failure every time. Obviously the SQL Server 2008 R2 prerequisites are installed in all cases in order to be able to install SQL server to begin with. Any help with this would be appre

SQL Server Express 2008 Setup fails. Support Rule "Restart Computer" Failed

Hi, I have been trying to install SQL Server Express for most of the day now without any luck.  Whatever I do setup fails at the stage of Setup Support Rules, Rule "Restart Computer" - Failed.  Needles to say I have restarted (several times!) and I have tried downloading  and installing the "Advanced", "Tools" and "Basic" versions, all give the same error.  Trying a repair does the same.  I have been searching the net for an answer without success, any help would be MUCH appreciated. Further info: I am trying to install a stand-alone installation on to a single PC running under XP SP 3 with .NET 3.5 SP1 installed.  The PC did have some earler versions of SQL server installed but I (?hopefully?) removed all of these through Control Panel.  Before trying the first SQL install I installed Windows installer 4.5 and PowerShell 1.0 as per the Microsoft Instructions. Running SQL Server Configuration Manager results in an error (MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in might not have been installed correctly).  A directory structure for SQL server exists in "Program Files".  Services MSC shows SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) as Automatic Statup (not running).  Trying to start this manually gives error 14001: "application configuration incorrect - re-install to fix" .......... Which is precisely what I'm trying to do.........:(

Connection to SQL server 2008 fails randomly

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this error: "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server" Normally I would assume that this would mean that there's a problem connecting to the SQL server, but currently I'm having a hard time figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it The problem only occours randomly, but mostly it is when I from the same computer calls the server several times for example like this: For i as integer = 0 to 500 OpenConnectionToSqlServer(Bla bla) ReadData() CloseConnection() next I always makes sure to close the connection again. The more often I connect to SQL server in a row, the higher is the percentage of errors I have created my code so that if the above error happens, the program will wait for a second, then try again (after 3rd try it will stop trying)   I have several times been monitoring the SQL server at the same time, but I can't seem to see anything from there :(

Post Upgade task, Upgrading SSIS Pacakges to SQL Server 2008.

Hi, I am trying to upgrade sql 2005 packages to sql 2008 after doing in-place upgrade of DE and SSIS. Can I know what packageformat column in msdb.dbo.sysssispackages refer to, as according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc879336.aspx the value should be 2 if the package is in sql 2005 and it should be 3 if it is upgraded. But I am seeing only 0 or 1.   Can I know any other method to figure out version of the ssis packages? I am having issues upgrading SSIS Packages from 2005 to 2008, using SSIS package upgrade wizard.   Thanks for your help. Regards, KRanp.

SQL Server 2008 Agent Fails to start in a Win 2008 Cluster

When I try to bring SQLAGENT Online, I get the following errors: EventID:53 [sqagtres] StartResourceService: Failed to start SQLSERVERAGENT service.  CurrentState: 1 [sqagtres] OnlineThread: ResUtilsStartResourceService failed (status 435) [sqagtres] OnlineThread: Error 435 bringing resource online.   I just did a fresh SQL Cluster install as well.  When I installed the cluster, the service account was good to go.  I cant figure out what is going on.  SQL Server Engine starts fine.  Any ideas?

COM Server upgrade breaks interface

Ok, so apparently I posted this question in the wrong group last time, so I'll try again :) ======= I have an ActiveX exe that I’m calling from a Web Service. The ActiveX exe however gets upgraded independently of the web service. When this happens the web service breaks. Looking in the registry, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHING \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ {DLL Name}  - the GUID seems to remain consistent after upgrading the EXE, however I’m guessing the interface GUIDs much change for some reason. Is there perhaps a GUID per interface that’s exposed that’s changing when the ActiveX EXE is recompiled? If so can someone tell me how to view these interfaces and confirm that his is or is not the case. ======= What I'm trying to figure out of why my Interop Proxy DLL stops working every time the developer of this ActiveX EXE releases a new version. As I said that GUID in the redistry seems to remain the same. I'm just not sure how to go about debugging the issue. I don't want to have to re-compile my application every time he releases a new version and he does not seem to think he's changing the interface - so something else must be changing when you /unregserver  /regserver the COM server \ ActiveX EXE. ========

Where is System.Web.Extensions.dll now? Fails on remote hosted server.

I've read all the notes about how from RC2 to ajax.net the name space has changed. "The core ASP.NET AJAX assembly has been changed from Microsoft.Web.Extensions.dll to System.Web.Extensions.dll. In addition, the namespace has changed from Microsoft.Web.* to System.Web.*. For some reason, my app runs on my local machine but when I copy it to a remote server (that does not have the ajax updated installed) it fails.  How can I get an IIS installation to work?  Am I missing a dll that I can push up to the remote server?  I can't run the install on the remote machine becasue it's a hosted server. Thanks

Sharing Service Interface between client and server through common assembly

This thread indicates that there is a known bug concerning reuse of service contract interfaces with WCF. Has this bug been solved? I would like to avoid using the workaround since it would mean rewriting a whole lot of client code. In my specific scenario, I have a rather complex setting with 3 solutions: A server, a client and a third application. I want to reuse some of the logic from my server and the controls from my client in my third application, but I don't want to have to setup a server simply for the amount of logic I reuse. My idea was to instanciate the class that imlpements the service contract in the application, and link up the controls with the instance of the service that runs in the same application. This isn't working because the controls expect a reference to the service contract interface proxy and not the actual service contract interface. Even using the /r switch (which I assume is the "reuse types in referenced assemblies" checkbox in VS), the service proxy is created and the controls won't compile because of type mismatch.  What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your time.

SharePoint 2010 AD FS 2.0 Integration - login works then fails, looping back to the adfs server

Hello, I setup SharePoint 2010 Claims auth with AD FS 2.0 following this post: http://blogs.technet.com/b/speschka/archive/2010/07/30/configuring-sharepoint-2010-and-adfs-v2-end-to-end.aspx.  I have no access to the ADFS server, but I think they followed the steps as outlined.  If I do an iisreset (or just recycle the app pool of the SharePoint site) I can login successfully using the remote credentials.  Also I can under security in SharePoint search for and find users and roles from the remote ADFS server. If I close my browser, open a new browser and go to the site I am prompted to login again (this is fine).  I do, using the same credentials, and the login fails because I am redirected between the SP and ADFS servers until the ADFS server stops the redirecting.  I have been doing some digging and I found this post: http://blogs.technet.com/b/speschka/archive/2010/08/09/setting-the-login-token-expiration-correctly-for-sharepoint-2010-saml-claims-users.aspx, which describes the situation I have in point # 3 at the bottom.  I have tried setting the token time out as low as 1 second but this hasn't helped. I have also, just to see, tried setting all the other lifetime settings to 1 second - but no luck.  Because the initial login works I think the setup is correct, but something is maintaining some state that is causing the loop

Adding second node to SQL Server cluster fails.

I have successfully created a MSCS cluster and I have the SQL cluster up and running on the first node.   When I put the install cd in the second node and go through the install it fails with the error SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:  Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I'm assuming I get this error because on the cluster node configuration screen the "cluster network name" box is blank.   It won't let me select a name or type a name. The SQL cluster is up and running on the first node.   I can ping the sql cluster network name from both boxes.   The setup shows the installed node and the node I"m trying to add, so I don't see any problem. I have Windows 2008 R2 on both nodes and I'm installing SQL Server 2008 R2.   Any idea how I can get past this error?    Thank you.

SQL 2005 Server export to Foxpro fails by "default codepage missing"

Hi, I just tried to apply the foxpro driver VFPOLEDBSetup.msi to import and export an old format dbf. First of all no other method is available in this case, as one of the dbf-tables holds about 9 million rows. I don't want to (manually) go to excel and wait for 10 years importing it there, then only to discover i need another 10 years to get it into sql server.   Here's my task at hand: Source: street/housenumber database with approx 9 million rows Task:  Convert it to SQL server database (import DTS)           Change some data Export it back to DBF format. I don't have any problems acting on the first two steps (dts import to SQL 2k5 and changing data) I doooo have some problems with the last part. As soon as i define the DTS through the wizzard, it leaves the "CodePage" blank. However, upon executing it i receive some warnings and finally errors: On the "Setting Destination Connection" action in the final execution progress window: - Setting Destination Connection (Warning) Messages Warning 0x80202066: Destination - housenum [40]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider.
