I requested access to use the excel 2005 data mining addin from our IT group (specifically being able to connect to ana instance of analysis services and have the addin create models on the server. This is the message my IT group sent me
The 2005 data mining add in requires SSAS administrative privileges to install and operate. Since there is no separate SSAS administrative role outside of sysadmin for the instance, the IT policy is not to grant sysadmin roles to end users.
Can anyone say if this is typical at other organizations?
I am running the SQL Server data mining add - in for excel and have been running into problems with certain Data mining functions. In particular anything that uses the tree graph. I am receiving the following error. I have a colleague that
has installed the same add-in and is not running into any issues. I have exhausted all obvious trouble shooting steps with no luck. I am running into a brick wall when it comes to finding anyone else experiencing this issue with regard to this
The tree graph cannot be created because of the following error:
'Culture 'en' is a neutral culture. It cannot be used in formatting and parsing and therefore cannot be set as the thread's current culture.
The language on my PC is set to English (United States). All references to this error that I have been able to find, which is limited to a couple obscure postings, are associated with programming and setting the culture in the code or under properties
- neither apply to using the add-in within Excel. Can someone please shed some
Recent install of add in Excel data mining on excel 2007 when I press the classification matrix button for example it gives me the error : A connection to analysis service is required to perform the classification matrix task. Click the no connection
button on the data mining tool bar to create a new connection.
I click new connection then new,, I type in my name , and then test connection then another error Test connection Failed Aconnection cannot be made ensure that the server is running : No such host is known.
Can someone please help me with this so i may use the data mining feature on my spread sheets thanks in advance :]
In SharePoint 2010, Project Server 2010, Business Intelligence Center, upon attempting to refresh OLAP data in an Excel chart in the browser, the following error appears:
An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh:
My ODC Connection Name
We have loaded and configured Project Server 2010 according to spec (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662109.aspx). Excel Services is configured according to spec (global
settings, trusted file locations, trusted data providers and trusted data connection libraries). The Secure Store Service is configured with the ProjectServerApplication target application.
Non-OLAP data refreshes of spreadsheet data work fine in the browser. OLAP data refreshes in the Excel client itself work fine. Only the OLAP refreshes in the browser fail. The problem occurs whether using a Microsoft ODC or one that
we created (saved in a trusted location).
The ULS log has only one error, which is:

2 of us were able to download and install the excel data mining add-in, the tab showed up in the ribbon and it behaved normally. Some number od fays later it was no longer showing in the ribbon. We re-installed more than once and it never reappears. We did
see reference to enable disabled add-ins but it does not show up as disabled and in fact show up as enabled in the excel options add-in screen. We are running Office 2010, Windows 7.
Any ideas why it dissapears and why we can't even re-install it?
Does any one knows where can i get Data Mining add in for Excel 2007 video tutorials? (Classify, Estimate,Cluster, Associate, Etc.)
All i can find are videos tutorials for Data Mining table analysis tool.
I install add-in and run fine for a while, then all of sudden I could not see Table Analyze tool and data mining tab at my ribbon. I re-run server configuration and re-connect to DMAddinDB (remote server, but I am the administrator), but data mining add-in and table analyzer still not showing at my ribbon.
Then I uninstall DMAddin, re-install it, go through configuration again, but still the tabs are not showing up.
Any idea you can help me get my add in back?
When I click Analyze Key Influencers I am able to select a column to analyze for key factors and then picks columns to be used for analysis. What happens when I include the column to analyze for key factors in my list of columns used for analysis?
Based on testing it doesnt seem to matter very much, but i wanted to check what happens behind the scenes in the statical processes. Thank you.
Hi, I downloaded and setup the DM mining tool on a win 7 64 bit, office 2010 64 bit, firing excel shows me a new ribon with "Design" item but not the analysis item.
I tired on other laptopns with same configuration, got the same result. Then after searching a little bit I understood that tis add-in didn't work with 64 bit version of office 2010 while in RC state. Is it still the same so far with the release version
I have only 1 laptop with office 2007, the proble it is not in my domain so it can not access analysis services. I tried creating same credentials on AS and the laptop but still can not access the AS.
Than in advance
