Unable to install MS .NET 3.51 in Windows 7 x86 or x64

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

This is a little different than the normal.  I build the Windows 7 Enterprise Edition using MDT 2010.  All Windows updates are applied through WSUS.  Within WSUS I declined  KB959209 - Microsoft .NET Framework Family Update x86 as it has been superseded by KB951847 - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update x86.

When the build is complete and using the netfx_setupverifier.exe, I only have:

.NET Framework 2.0 SP2
.NET Framework 4 Client
.NET Framework 4 Full

Both the 3 and 3.5 .NET Frameworks are missing.

Going into Windows Features, there is no listing for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1.  Checking in the c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework, again both 3 and 3.5 dirs are missing.

I attempted to do a Windows Updates against the MS site but it did not recognize these are being required.  Attempting to load the standalone install give the popup to install via MS Features.

I am at a loss as to why these are not available, especially if they are part of the vanilla OS.  What could have removed them?

Any insight is appreciated!

Unable to install SQL Server 2005 SP2 - Unable to install Windows Installer MSI File

I have been trying to figure out how to fix this problem for the past couple of days and I was unable to find an answer to my specific problem in the forum. My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3 on MacBook Pro, using Parallels Desktop 4.0. Every single time Windows update tries to install SQL Server 2005 SP2, it fails. I am using Business Contact Manager with Outlook 2007 and SQL Server stops randomly and I am forced to restart the software. I am not sure if it is relevant to this specific problem but I thought I would make a note of this.I have downloaded SP2 and tried to install it locally but that did not work. Unable to install Microsoft Web Services Enhancement v3.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate, requires .NET frame

Users Medals Users Medals Users Medals Users Medals

I need to install Microsoft web services enhancement version 3.0 in order to correctly install SAS v9.2 (statistical software).  I downloaded WSE 3.0 and attempted to install.  The installation stops immediately and a box pops up that reads "Microsoft WSE 3.0 requires Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0".  My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with all .NET versions loaded, including version 2.0.  I am technologically-challenged and need help with how to enable the version 2.0 .NET framework so that I can install WSE 3.0.

I've tried to change compatibility for the WSE 3.0 installer to have it run using a previous version of windows, but the compatibility troubleshooter doesn't work for .msi files which is what the WSE 3.0 installer is

Unable to install SQL Server Enterprise on Windows 7

Hi All,

I am trying to install sql server 2005 enterprise 64-bit edition on Windows 7 Home Premium. After repetitive attempts, the set up do not install the sql server instance.

There are 2 CD's - I have tried changing their order of run. But it only install workstation components and not database engine/AS/IS/RS. I come across warnings to install sql server sp3 after sql server installation. So I also installed sp3 but still no instance is found on my laptop.

When I click on SQL Server Surface Area Configuration it says no instance found on this computer. Even when I uninstall SQL Server it asks for uninstalling workstation components only and says no sql server instance found.

Is their any known compatibility issue. If yes, which sql server 2005 edition works with windows 7.

Please help with me with the solution.

Thanks in advance.

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

SQL Server Reporting Services not able to install on Windows Vista Home Premium

Recently I had a weird problem while trying to install SQL Server Reporting Service in my local PC. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and I wanted to configure SSRS in my PC. During the installation, the setup wizard listed all the services that we want to install and I found that only Reporting Server checkbox option was disabled and I wondered why??? I thought it may be becuase of some installation problem and tried again and its useless... I googled lot of sites for 3 days and finally found that due to some IIS issues, it is not possible to install Reporting Server in Vista Home Premium version. Reporting Server needs some specific IIS features to be installed in the machine.

But unfortunately those features are not available for Home Premium users which in term restricts users not to install reporting server in our PCs... Also, Microsoft has accepted it as an issue and its not possible to get it install in Home Premium...just wanted to share and might be useful for someone like me.

.net framework unable to install

Okay I've had absolute ____ with this program and if another program I used didnt require it I wouldnt bother with it because its not worth this hassle. I finally get 3.5 to downloaded after 4 days  which I was getting the same error for as I am now with that and I have no idea how I fixed it. I am not computer savvy in the least, so please assume I know nothing. Anyway thats not good enough need 4.0 .The error is I download the setup for .net framework 4.0 it lingers at about 5-10% approx and stays there the temp log says "A connection with the server could not be established"  And there in lies the problem since I am able to post this I'm clearly able to connect to something but not the microsoft download server. The os is vista and yes before its said I am running it as administrator. Any help/ideas on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to install SP3 on SQL 2005 due to Database Services language being blank

Hi all,   I have an issue that requires me to upgrade to a later SP (currently on RTM), but when I try to install SP3 Database Services cannot be ticked. Upon inspection I see that its reporting "This update requires language ENU.  The language for this product instance MSSQLSERVER is . Download the upadte for langage .", when I check teh Language field to the right it is blank, other parts however are fine and can be upgraded. Can you advise please as I don't know how to manually set the language (which is reported inside SQL itself as English (United Kingdom)) and I cannot un/reinstall. Thanks, John

SQL Server 2008 R2 fails after Windows XP Pro SP3 install

We recently encountered an issue with SQL Server 2008 R2 failing to run after the upgrade from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3. This was tested and reproduced (with varying results) on more than one computer. Steps to reproduce this. On a Windows XP Pro machine with Service Pack 2 installed, install SQL Server 2008 R2. Next upgrade Windows to Service Pack 3. Now upon opening SSMS or trying to start the SQL server service you receive the following message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". In some instances reinstalling/repairing SQL Server 2008 R2 does fix the issue.  In other cases the installer crashes and you need to use msizap to clean it up before you can reinstall.  In other cases you do not receive any errors at all. After testing in multiple virtual machines it looks like the cleaner the Windows install the more likely you are to run into this issue.  On machines with most or all windows updates (prior to SP3) installed you do not necessarily even get the failure.  On machines with just Windows XP Pro SP2 installed with no additional updates you get the failure every time. Obviously the SQL Server 2008 R2 prerequisites are installed in all cases in order to be able to install SQL server to begin with. Any help with this would be appre
