How do I disable activityDesigner option to become root designer?

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :JQuery

I'm building a package of activities with custom designers,

Thing is that when I double click on the custom designer (even an empty ActivityDesigner) the flowchart set my activity as root (IsRootDesigner is true), and since there is no content or expanded designer than what I get is an empty box on the screen. (an empty designer)

The default behaviour is to allow the ActivityDesigner to open up as a new root, so that the ony thing showing in screen is the empty desginer (on double click by default),

meaning lets say that the scope that looks as such : Workflow1>FlowChart>CertainActivity is not allowed (since CertainActivity is not allowed as root).

A scope like Workflow1>FlowChart>FlowChart is ok ofcourse since FlowChart has functionality as root.

Is there a way to forbid that so that opening an activity on the entire screen (as root actually) is not allowed?

Thanks in advance.

Disable Expand All/Collapse All workflow designer hyperlinks?

Hi,In a blog post by Matt Winker (http://blogs.msdn.com/mwinkle/archive/2009/10/20/wf4-designer-enhancements-in-vs-2010-beta-2.aspx), he notes that: "Additionally, you can choose to expand or collapse individual nodes, or go to the "Expand All" command in order to expand out the tree.  One thing to note is that we don't allow expansion inside of a flowchart because we don't yet have a mechanism that lets me rearrange all of the items around that newly expanded activity.  "My question is, will there be a way by the time RTM releases to do expansion within a flow chart?  The flow chart model is what I'll be using exclusively, so I'm quite interesetd in this.If there will not be support by the time workflow reaches RTM, is there or will there be a way that we can hide the Expand All/Collapse All hyperlinks?Thank you,Notre

Disable an activity in Designer at run time in workflow 4.0

There are couple of activities in my workflow & based on some condition, I need to make an activity disabled i.e. I don't want that activity to be seletable by the user. I am opening my workflow in designer at run time to give an overview of WF to the user. Something like  (new DesignerMetadata()).Register(); this.wd = new System.Activities.Presentation.WorkflowDesigner(); this.designerSection.Child = (this.wd.View); I was going thru the MS sample of CommentOut Activity but that won't solve my requirement as Activity needs to be disabled at run time based on some condition.

In a custom Rehosted Designer, when attempt to load a custom activity that has the Designer Attribute, referecing a custom ActivityDesigner, the rehosted designer display only the message "Could not generate view for MyCustomActivity" with red backtext.

Failed to display the IActivityTemplateFactory designer as a root activity on the rehosted applicati

Hi guys,

I have created a custom composite activity that derived from the Activity and IActivityTemplateFactory. When I try to deploy this composite activity as a root activity on the rehosted application. It failed to display its designer probably. If I put a sequence as a root activity, and the composite activity as a child activity inside the sequence activity,  I got my composite activity designer display nicely on my rehosted designer. Is it a limitation for us to put a IActivityTemplateFactory designer as root activity in the rehosted app. Please advice.

public class CustomCompositeActivity : Activity, IActivityTemplateFactory
  public Activity Create(System.Windows.DependencyObject target)

    return new Sequence
       Activities =
          new WriteLine
            Text = "Hello"
          new WriteLine
            Text = "WF 4.0"

Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on VS workflow designer

Referring to the post below. It seems that the current VS workflow designer only support "Activity" type as a root document. Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on next release of WF?

VS 2010 HTML validation "in CSS" option - where the hell is it?

In VS 2008 there is a very useful feature of background HTML validation - it checks if CSS class name is valid i.e. it exists in one of the linked css files. But VS 2010 Express does not do that any more. And the relevant setting in Options->Text Editor->HTML->Validation->in CSS is not there. Ok, maybe they made it paid for option? VS 2010 Professional? Not there. Or maybe VS 2010 Ultimate? Not a trace.

1. am I blind?

2. they decided it is too convenient to use and removed it?

3. they will "introduce" it in SP1?

What is going on? That one thing made me move back to VS 2008 web developer.

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.

Can I replace the EntityObject as base-class in Entity Designer 3.5 sp1?

I'm using EF3.5sp1 for a project, and I've been working around many of its problems... as such, my entity partial classes have a lot of logic in them for change-tracking and whatnot.  Obviously, I'd like to factor this logic out into a common base class, but of course all my objects must derive from EntityObject.  Is it possible to tell them to derive from some class of my own invention (which would actually likely derive from EntityObject themselves)?

I'd rather avoid editing the EDMX file unless the changes will be safe on entity-model-update, since I'm still making changes to the database schema in this early state of my project.

Also, is there any good workaround for the fact that the change isn't tracked when you change EntityReference.EntityKey?

Use Membership but bypass / disable password usage for users

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)

I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.

Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?
