SVCUtil changing CallBack interface method

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am creating a WCF duplex callBack structure, with a WPF app registering with a WCF service, and the WCF service using a CallBack in the WPF app to pass data from time to time. The interface for the callback in WCF is simple:

  void DataUpdate(string updatedData)

yet when I launch the service and run SVCUtil.exe, the CS code changes the callBack interface to

  void DataUpdate(DataUpdate request)

What is the cause of this? How can I get the proper structure to show in the SVCUtil output?

SvcUtil-generated code or shared interface/data contract assembly?

If you control both service and client is there any benefit in using svcutil.exe to generate client proxies? Or is it better to share interface/data contract assembly between client and service?

Changing SQL server Authentication method

Hi We have a SQL server (x64 standard) that is running with sharepoint on it.  Currently we have some custom s/w that need SQL server authentication also but our server is set to "window authentication mode" only.  Could someone please tell me if we can change the authentication method from "windows authentication mode" to "SQL server and Windows authentication mode" while sql is running.  Will they ask us to re-boot or it will take effect immediately?  thanks, Ted.

Why request parameter added to client side code in each method while using svcutil.exe

Hi, I am using WCF services in my project and want to call WCF methods asynchronously. I am hosting WCF service programmatically in windows app as follows svc = New ServiceHost(GetType(Service1), New Uri("net.tcp://localhost:8806/")) Dim svcMDB As New ServiceMetadataBehavior svc.Description.Behaviors.Add(svcMDB) svc.AddServiceEndpoint(GetType(Service1), New NetTcpBinding(), "MyBusiness/MyBusinessService/") svc.AddServiceEndpoint(ServiceMetadataBehavior.MexContractName, MetadataExchangeBindings.CreateMexTcpBinding(), "MyBusiness/MyBusinessService/mex") svc.Open() Me.Text = "Service started...." and I am generating client side proxy using svcutil.exe as follows. svcutil /n:net.tcp://localhost:8806/MyBusiness/MyBusinessService,MyService net.tcp://localhost:8806/MyBusiness/MyBusinessService/mex /a /language:vb   The result of this command is as :   Microsoft (R) Service Model Metadata Tool [Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Communication Foundation, Version 3.0.4506.2152] Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.   Attempting to download metadata from 'net.tcp://localhost:8806/MyBusiness/MyBusi nessService/mex' using WS-Metadata Exchange. Provide object over network on callback method

Hello. I am building a client server video monitoring system. I will have a user (viewer) connect to a web page on a server, pick a camera and see what is going on at the particular location. A general WCF question: How can I access VideoSource custom class object remotely on the server via WCF? Basically, I have a VideoSource and VideoSourcePlayer that work great, when are within one process, but how can I access VideoSource object remotely? An example link would be enough. Thank you.  Max Pavlov http://maxpavlov.com

Reflection question - how to tell if a method is defined in an interface?

OK so the Reflection namespace has tools so you can tell if a method has a base definition in a class (MethodInfo.GetBaseDefinition().DeclaringType). This way for instance I can query the ToString method of my favorite class and see that yes, indeed this inherits from System.Object.

I also can detect if a method is an explicit interface implementation, by checking the name of the method (methods representing explicit interface implementation will have the fully qualified name of the interface pre-pended to the value of the Name property) so I'm okay there.

But what about plain ole interface implementations? How do I get this info?

Thanks if you can help!

Sort Method using IComparer Interface

Hi All,

I am trying to implement sorting in list using IComparer Interface.

If any two values are equal, then there order is not maintained in the list

after using sort function.

Say, I am sorting an Employee object based on Department ID like,

Employee 1 -> Dept ID = 100, Name = "John"

Employee 2 -> Dept ID = 100, Name = "Peter"

Employee 3 -> Dept ID = 100, Name = "Wills"

The output of this after sorting based on Department ID should be

100, John

100, Peter

100, Wills

but the output is

100, Wills

100, Peter

100, John

where the order is getting changed if the values in the sort column are equal.

Is it possible to maintain the order if the elements are equal.

Executing a callback method when the asynchronous operation returns

Hi, I really don't understand the physical meaning of "callback" in the real world although a lot of code there. Can somebody give me a real world example to explain it?(not code itself)?

Thank you very much.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Thinking about new C# method prototypes: object as dictionary

I recently had to write a small Flickr API. I know many .Net API for Flickr already exist but I needed one for a Silverlight application. Whatever, it's only about building some querystrings so I did it by myself. It's been an opportunity to think again about a classical question: how to pass parameters to a method ?

Imagine you have a generic method to call some Flickr functions.

Convert English to Arabic number without changing any regional settings in .net

Well, most applications that I worked with was multilingual that supports English UI and Arabic UI.

And one of the major issue that we have faced is displaying Arabic numbers without the need of changing the regional settings of the PC.

So the code below will help you to display Arabic number without changing any regional settings.

Sys.Net.WebServiceFailedException: The server method '' failed with the following error:

Let's say we have 2 time consuming functions, aaa and aaa1 inside a aspx page.

        public static string aaa(int i)
            return i.ToString();

        public static string aaa1(int i)
            return i.ToString();

        <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true">
        <span id="displayspan"></span>
        <br />

For handy database interface, is it good to use SqldataSources exclusively intead of EntLib functions?

Problem with changing language using culture info

I'm using the following msdn article to use different languages in my web application:

I'm following the instructions step by step in VS 2010, and it creates the resource files exactly how it's supposed to.

However, when I run the program it just doesn't apply it. I don't see the different values from the resource file.

If I leave my resource file name as sample.aspx.resx, it works. But when I change it to sample.aspx.en-us.resx, it doesn't work. I'm supplying culture from the aspx page's Culter and UICulture properties. I'm being very careful in choosing the correct file name, as that could be the issue,  but it just doesn't work. I also tried changing the culture in the backend code this way:

Changing direction of pop-ups/alerts in RTL

Rest of my application is changed in above culture, only problem is with popups and alerts.

Thanks in advance.

Changing from Local to WCF

I've been handed an application thats connection string implies a local host connection.

I want to make this connection a remote connection, to a database located on a Server.  I want the client and server to be able to communicate with one another remotely, instead of a local connection.

How does one create the Data Service, and establish end points to Server and Client?  Is it as simple as creating a contract (which I have limited knowledge on constructing), between the two locations, setting up the dataservice, security, and ratifying the 'connetions'?

A smidge of insight, please ;-)
