Collapse XAML code in the designer

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :JQuery

I'm using VS2010 Pro (SP1) on XP Pro SP3

Before I installed SP1 I could collapse XAML sections, this is very useful if you have some Ribbonbar XAML for example, you just have a comment saying what this section does and the collapsed code. It's not just useful it's a must really when you start doing some serious interface work on LOB systems.

I did notice in the SP1 release notes they fixed some issues with collapsing code blocks.

Any ideas how I can turn on the feature after SP1 is installed ?

I am using VS 2010 Ultimate.  It is not remembering my setup when opening .xaml files.  It is very annonying.  I  am pretty sure VS remembers things like that.

I prefer to load my .xaml file to see the code only.  So I usually minimize the design tab.  However, I have to do this every time I open a .xaml file.

I am getting the feeling this setting is stored at the .sln level, which is even more annonying, it should be global setting for all VS sessions.

Any advice?

Environment is: Silverlight 4, VS Studio 2010. Designer is showing error in a Silverlight App when trying to access a resource as below. And there are no build or runtime errors. Extensive research found that, in the "InvestorsProvider" class I am using wcf services, which has a callback method. In the call back method I am using this statement "this.MyProperty = e.Result" where e.Result is ObservableCollection. If I remove the e.Result it is not showing any designer problem. <UserControl.Resources> <local:InvestorsProvider x:Name="investorsProvider"></local:InvestorsProvider> </UserControl.Resources> Here is the error System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException [Async_ExceptionOccurred]Arguments: Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Hosted Designer fails to load workflow xaml that has InArguments with default values (xaml saved by

I have hosted the designer in our app. Using the hosted designer, workflows are saved as xaml to a database. When an end user wishes to edit a workflow the xaml is downloaded to a file and loaded into the designer via the .xaml file. The user can also associate assemblies with the workflow and there is a mechanism which makes sure that these assemblies are loaded into the appdomain and available. The problem we are hitting occurs when the top level activity (Sequence) has InArgument with default value. I create a simple Sequence, add InArguments (type of Int32 and String)  and set some default values. I save the workflow xaml to the database and close down the designer. When I wish to edit the workflow and try to load I get the following errors Could not find member '{clr-namespace:}_e905.argument3'. Could not find member '{clr-namespace:}_e905.argument1'. suggesting that some assembly/namespace missing. Here is the xaml I try to load: <Activity mc:Ignorable="sap" x:Class="{x:Null}" this:_e905.argument3="99" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/netfx/2009/xaml/activities" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:mva="clr-namespace:Microsoft.VisualBasic.Activities;assembly=System.Activities" xmlns:s="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorl

How do I get column values in Sharepoint designer so I can use them as a variable in code block?

The code below is in my EditForm.aspx and it works but instead of it outputting "This is just a test!" I need get a number that is stored in a column named Phone Number that has 5555555555 stored in it and have the line that says TD2.innerHTML = "This is just a test!"; ouput what ever number is stored in the Phone Number column. Here is the code that is in my EditForm.aspx <script type="text/javascript">function DisplayItemID(){       var TD1 = document.createElement("TD");       TD1.className = "ms-formlabel";       TD1.innerHTML = "<h3 class='ms-standardheader'>Test</h3>";       var TD2 = document.createElement("TD");       TD2.className = "ms-formbody";       TD2.innerHTML = "This is just a test!";       var IdRow = document.createElement("TR");       IdRow.appendChild(TD1);       IdRow.appendChild(TD2);       var ItemBody = GetSelectedElement(document.getElementById("idAttachmentsRow"),"TABLE").getElementsByTagName("TBODY")[0];

Disable Expand All/Collapse All workflow designer hyperlinks?

Hi,In a blog post by Matt Winker (http://blogs.msdn.com/mwinkle/archive/2009/10/20/wf4-designer-enhancements-in-vs-2010-beta-2.aspx), he notes that: "Additionally, you can choose to expand or collapse individual nodes, or go to the "Expand All" command in order to expand out the tree.  One thing to note is that we don't allow expansion inside of a flowchart because we don't yet have a mechanism that lets me rearrange all of the items around that newly expanded activity.  "My question is, will there be a way by the time RTM releases to do expansion within a flow chart?  The flow chart model is what I'll be using exclusively, so I'm quite interesetd in this.If there will not be support by the time workflow reaches RTM, is there or will there be a way that we can hide the Expand All/Collapse All hyperlinks?Thank you,Notre

Designer vs. Code-Behind

Is it better to add strongly typed datasets from the designer or write the code by yourself and why i should use one over another ?Cons and Pros? Thanks

Updating list item values in SharePoint Designer using code

Is it possible to programmatically modify the SharePoint objects using SharePoint Designer Object Model. By that I mean coding in SharePoint Designer (not Visual Studio). For example, can we access the list items of a list programmatically and change their values? I can do all this in Visual Studio using SharePoint Object Model but I don’t find a way of achieving this by using programming in SharePoint Designer. I searched through http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb208639(office.12).aspx but no success. If the answer is yes. Can someone please give example(s) or point to some articles etc? Thanks in advance.

Input parameters from Workflow No-Code Or Xaml Only

About de Code Generator of Designer Form.

I'm working with Winforms. Inherits Windows.Forms.Form, create Class that know frmDefault thinking in create a SDK, or framework, based in pattern, all of Applications, know that interfaces Inherits RightNow frmDefault. But i have looking code in de Designer Form with Visual Studio 2008, and all of properties declared in the form inheritable is initialized in Designer Form. Same properties would not have to be in the Designer code. Somebody could help me? As to define some variable or propiedades that will not be controlled for the code in the code inheritable. This variables, some variables store information of security of the application.

I'm sorry, i'm not write or speak English better. King Regard's.

Textrange.Load not loading Xaml code into a FlowDocument

Hi,

I'm trying to convert text with Xaml tags into a FlowDocument.  I've done this before and it worked fine (as far as I can recall - that was about a year ago.)  Now I can't get this to work:

private Span FormatString(String _textToFormat)
{
    FlowDocument _formattedDocument;
    Span _formattedText;

    _myString = "<FlowDocument xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation\"><Paragraph>This is some <Run FontWeight=\"bold\">bold</Run> text.</Paragraph></FlowDocument>";

    _formattedDocument = new FlowDocument();
    _formattedText = new Span();

    TextRange textRange = new TextRange(_formattedDocument.ContentStart, _formattedDocument.ContentEnd);

    MemoryStream msDocument = new MemoryStream((new ASCIIEncoding()).GetBytes(_myString));

    if (textRange.CanLoad(DataFormats.Xaml))
        textRange.Load(msDocument, DataFormats.Xaml);

    msDocument.Close();

// rest of function trimmed - the problem is above

}
Things work fine up to and including the creation of the MemoryStream (inspection with the debugger shows that the bytes are in there.)  "textRange.CanLoad" also resolves to true, but textRange.Load(msDocument, DataFormats.Xaml) doesn't seem to do anything - after that, a look at "textRa

General question: Using the VS Designer vs. the Source Code

I just finished Sams Teach Yourself ASP.Net in 24 Hours. I am now going through the Data tutorials here. I am a beginner at ASP.Net. One thing that I am having a little bit of trouble with is the idea that I am using the Designer in Visual Studio for just about everything except for a few code tweaks. I used to do a lot of HTML, JavaScript and CSS. I even did some programming (PowerBuilder). So, I am used to writing/typing code instead of using a Designer. (I always liked writing web pages in a text editor.) When I look at the code generated by the Designer in Visual Studio, I can understand what is going on there. But, to sit down and write that code instead of using the Designer to me seems impossible. There is just so much there. From what I understand, ASP.Net and Visual Studio were created to help streamline the code writing process. I suppose if I was used to writing VB code to create applications I might look at this from a different angle. But, I am learning ASP.Net using the VS Designer. Any comments or suggestions from experienced coders? I really don't want to have a battle between people who use the Designer and the Source Code editor. I am just hoping for some comments that will help newbies. Thanks.

Issue with designer files not updating -- and therefore cannot code

Hello,

I have a problem in which some nested controls on a page are not updated in the designer file. I have deleted the designer file, selected Convert to Web Application, but still the controls are missing.

I know there is a supposed fix at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdevtools/archive/2010/03/05/hotfix-for-issue-with-auto-generated-designer-files-not-adding-controls.aspx

Unfortunately the patch won't install and I still have the issue.

Any thoughts? I am running VS 2010 Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel.

thanks,

Extending Page class in XAML and code-behind

I have several XAML "Page"s for which I would like to pull the facets that are in common together into a Page class extension I am calling ACPage. I must be missing some essential piece of knowledge, although I think I am pretty close. Can someone tell me what I am missing? I am learning C#, XAML, .NET, etc. all simultaneously.

I get the following warning:
Warning 1 'Al_Cr.PageWelcome.InitializeComponent()' hides inherited member 'Al_Cr.ACPage.InitializeComponent()'. Use the new keyword if hiding was intended. D:\Projects\Al Cr\Al Cr\Al Cr\obj\x86\Release\PageWelcome.g.cs 50 21 Al Cr

and this error:
Error 2 'Al_Cr.ACPage' cannot be the root of a XAML file because it was defined using XAML. Line 1 Position 15. D:\Projects\Al Cr\Al Cr\Al Cr\PageWelcome.xaml 1 15 Al Cr

The warning points to the auto-generated PageWelcome.InitializeComponent() function definition. The error points to the end of the bolded text, below.

My ACPage.xaml & ACPage.xaml.cs is defined thusly:

<Page x:Class="Al_Cr.ACPage"
      xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
      xmlns:x="

Generated MainWindow.xaml crashes VS2010 when you open the designer

In my system which is running Windows 7 Enterprise X64 I have a problem viewing some XAML files. At least one of my project XAML files sometimes crashes VS2010 if I open it in the designer or try to view it with Internet Exlorer 8 or Windows Presentation Foundation host. It also happens if i try to display the MainWindow.xaml that is generated by VS 2010.

The contents of MainWindow.xaml are

<Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow"
        xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
        xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
        Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525">
    <Grid>

    </Grid>
</Window>

If I open the debugger when IE8 crashes, the failing stack frame is iefdm2.dll!03992071()

I assume it is some sort installatioin snafu or something but I would hate to have to re-install everything.

Can anybody suggest what the issue might be?
