Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. The error.log at 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\error.log' has the following relevant entries: 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key '3677F6D3-17C7-4F', last error code is 2. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server &

How to connect to MOSS server using visual studio from client side

Dear All We are having one moss development environment and we are having many developers working on it.Since all the developers cannot work at a time,we are facing difficulties while developing sharepoint components. Is there any way to connect to sharepoint server from visual studio(from client side) so that we can compile our sharepoint components from client side and deploy later to the server? Insufficient Memory to continue the execution of the program (Microsoft Visual Studio)

Since Upgrading to SSAS 2008, cannot explore Data or Browse cubes from Vista Untimate machine.

I am developing Cubes for Analysis and Data Mining in Microsoft Visual Studio. I am running Vista 64 Untimate on my PC with quad processors and 8G of memory.
Everything was working in SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005. When we upgraded to 2008 on the server, I can no longer browse the cubes that I create or explore the data in the tables that I am using. I get an insufficient memory to continue program execution message. I did some searching on the internet, and I think that it has something to do with how 2008 server and Vista use forms.
I have found the following detail on the load:

SQL Authentication within SQLExpress Not Able to Connect to SQL User from Visual Studio?

I detached a database from sql server 2005 to an mdf file. I am able to logon to this mdf file from server management studio within sqlexpress instance using the sql user/pwd with no problem.

Within Visual Studio however, if I try to connect useing  the Server Explorer, I receive the error:
"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. The connection will be closed."

I went into Advanced Properties and changed User Instance to False, and then get this error:
"Create Database Permission denied in database "master". An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file "c:\......mdf" failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.

I opened the database again in management studio and detached it from sqlexpress, but still get same errors.

This issue is similar to the one posted here

but unfortunately for me, none of the suggestions in that po

Cannot connect Visual Studio 2008 to Sql Server 2005

I have Windows 7 and installed Visual Studio 2008 Pro and also installed SQL server developer addiotion that comes with VS. After creating a test database in SQL maangement studio and adding the standard asp.net membership provider tables with the aspnet_regsql tool, I created a web project and added a connection string to the web.config file to connect to the database.

No matter what, I cannot connect to the database.

I can create a connection through the server explorer in visual studio and when I drag a sqldatasource onto my page and configure it I can connect to the database etc. But no web.config connection.

This worked on my XP pro machine but not Windows 7.

Has anybody had this problem and what am I doing wrong.

After Install of Visual Studio 2010 SQLServer 2008 cannot Connect

SQL Server 2008 was working fine. I have Visual C# 2008 Express Installed.

I just installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional and now I cannot connect to SQL Server 2008.

One of the forums said to install SP1, VS studio 2010 comes with SP1.

Can't connect to SQL Express 2008 from Visual Studio, but can connect from SQL Server Management St

I've been struggling with the following issue for 3 days:  I can access and use my SQL Express 2008R2 database flawlessly from SQL Server Management Studio.  But I can only intermittently access it from Visual Studio (ultimate edition with TF Server).  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I mostly see the error when I try to "Update Model from Database" within my Entity framework model, or when I try to access the database from within Server Explorer.

Here is the error I see when I try to update my Entities form the Database: An error occurred while connecting to the database.  The database might be unavailable.  An exception of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException' occurred.  The error message is: 'Cannot open user default database. Login failed.  Login failed for user 'Tim-PC\Tim'.'

I think the connection string is fine as I am able to connect

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

This is a big deal. This isn't ".NET 3.6" - there are a lot of improvements of .NET 4, and it's not just "pile on a bunch of features so you get overwhelmed." I've been working with and talking to many of the teams involved and even though it's a cheesy thing to say, this is a really customer-focused release.

ASP 4 - Whirlwind Tour around .NET 4 (and Visual Studio 2010) Beta 1

There's a lot of stuff that's new and added in .NET 4, but not in that "overwhelming-I-need-to-relearn-everything" way. More in that, "oh, this is way easier/simpler now" way. Like, moving data around with ADO.NET DataServices is easy, binding with client templates is easy, there's F# if you need it, the "dynamic" keyword if you need it, Silverlight's already installed, oh, and the parallel stuff will freak you out, but in a good way.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

Visual Studio Add-In for Web Parts Generation

This article will introduce you to a new Visual Studio 2005/2008 add-in that can be used for Web Parts generation based on a prepared ASCX control/template. The add-in should allow Web Part developers to easily make Web Parts using the Visual Studio HTML designer. It should save you a lot of time and make Web Part development an enjoying experience even for beginners.

This article is written in the form of a step-by-step tutorial. It will give beginners a chance to successfully make, deploy, and try their first Web Parts, and will save some time for advanced users as you can always run into challenges when working with SharePoint.
