Nested controls in UserControl return null (FindControl)

Hi everyone, I have a very weird issue. I have a UserControl that has some controls inside. I want to refer those controls after, in another postback. But when I try to get them the ".Controls" property of my controls returns null. I'm working on vs2008 Here is the sample code: public partial class MyUserControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { foreach (Control control in this.Controls) { Response.Write(control.ClientID); } } private void MyTable() { Table table = new Table(); TableRow row = new TableRow(); TableCell cell = new TableCell(); CheckBox check = new CheckBox(); check.ID = "theId"; check.Text = "My Check"; check.AutoPostBack = true; cell.Controls.Add(check); row.Cells.Add(cell); check = new CheckBox(); check.ID = "theOther"; check.AutoPostBack = true; check.Text = "My Other Check"; cell = new TableCell(); cell.Controls.Add(check); row.Cells.Add(cell); table.Rows.Add(row); this.Controls.Add(table); } protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { MyTable(); base.Render(writer); } } And in the Default.aspx is like:<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.cs" Inherits="Tester.Default" %> &

TextBox in UserControl: "TextChanged" event does not see other controls

I am building a UserControl with several TextBox controls. The behavior I'm looking for, is everytime a value is changed in any TextBox, the UserControl refreshes a couple labels contained within it. Here's the code behind file that does the work:

Public Sub Refresh(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Controls.TextChangedEventArgs)
    lblTotalHours.Content = txtHours.Text
End Sub

Now, here's a way to hook it up that works, however, "PreviewTextInput" gives the old textbox value to Refresh() and not the new one (as expected). I'm just writing this example because I had to confirm that my method of linking the event worked - and it does. My application runs fine even though the result isn't what I am looking for: (edit: to make it work, i also adapted the Refresh() declaration to match the PreviewTextInput delegate to TextCompositionEventArgs, if I recall correctly...)

<UserControl ...>
        <Style TargetType="x:Key TextBox">
            <EventSetter Event="PreviewTextInput" Handler="Refresh" />
        <TextBox Name=&q

Show/Hide controls very slow.

Would like to seek advice, what is the best way to show/hide controls in .net?

I have a page with many show/hide depending on the control value.

eg. radio button list rbl (dynamically generated from the database values)

based on the radio button list value,will need to show/hide the other controls.

if the value is 1, will need to show or hide dropdownlist1.

if the value is 2, will need to show or hide dropdownlist2.

I tried using the javascript with rbl.Attributes.Add("onChange","return toggleDropdown();")

then in my javascript function i will show/hide the control.

However when I toggle the dropdown for the second time, it became very slow. The first time is okay.

I have also tried using ScriptManager and UpdatePanel (putting the controls inside the UpdatePanel), but it is also very slow when toggling dropdown for the second time onwards, causing the page to hang.

Any idea how to solve this?

How to show all ValidatorCalloutExtender multiple controls

I am trying to implement ValidatorCalloutExtender to the RequiredValidator controls.

Controls in a WPF UserControl don`t raise lost focus

I have a MainWindow with 3 main buttons at the top and below a MainUserControl.

In the MainUserControl I have at top 3 UserControls with ButtonBars and at the bottom a DataGrid.

When I enter data in a DataGridCell and I click into another cell a property change is fired in my ViewModel bound to the DataGrid.

When I enter data... and I click on one of the 3 main buttons again a property change is fired because of Lost Focus event.

When I ... and I click on one of the buttons in the ButtonBar in the UserControl no property change is fired because there seem to be no Lost Focus event.

How can I fix that?

constructors and visual controls in usercontrol inheritance

I'm using usercontrols to populate dynamically created tabpages in my application.

There are a varierty of different types of content which need to share certain features.

For this purpose I've created a usercontrol that I've called "MasterFrame" which will be subclassed to provide the different varieties of tab content.

The MasterFrame contains all the logic for controlling the frame's relationship with it's tab. The masterframe has a constructor that accepts parameters for the tabpage it must fill and a datatable to provide content.

When I create a subclass, the form designer (VS2010) throws an error and will not load UNLESS I create an alternative constructor for the MasterFrame that has no parameters.

Is this the only way round? Is there a better solution? Would you say this is a bug in VS2010?

I have been struggling with visual controls on my "masterframe": I've been unable to 'unlock' a toolstrip to allow adding buttons in a subclass. Is it possible? (I've tried changing modifiers to 'protected' or 'public' but to no avail).

ToolBox do not show newly added controls after restart

Recently i am working in VS2008 installed in windows xp SP2. In the toolbox i added a new tab and added some third party controls in the toolbox, by using "Choose Item" dialog.. I also added Ajax ToolKit to the tool box. It worked fine and i could drag n drop controls.

But then if i restart VS2008, all the tabs i created and controls in it goes off and disappears including Ajax Toolkit. Each time i restart it, I have to have add those controls newly???

Is this a Bug?? or Is there any solution for this??

Thnx in Advance..

Binding WPF Controls to an Entity Data Model

Custom Controls in C# .NET

Embedding user controls in a Windows form is just like adding a simple button or text box that are already provided with .NET. These basic controls were written essentially like you code your own controls. Typically the controls you design are to be used in multiple forms or to modularize your code. These reasons help reduce the amount of code you have to type as well as make it easier for you to change your implementation. There should almost never be any reason to duplicate code because it leaves a lot of room for bugs. So, implementing functionality specific to your control in the control's source code is a good idea. This reduces code duplication as well as modularize your code, which is a good programming guideline.

Accessing the different controls inside a GridView control

how we can access a particular control which resides inside a GridView control. In this article I will show you how you can access different controls inside a GridView control. We will see how we can access a TextBox control, a DropDownList control and a ListBox control. If you are working with ASP.NET 1.X then you might want to check out my article Accessing Different Controls Inside a DataGrid.

Using ASP.NET 3.5's ListView and DataPager Controls: Displaying Data with the ListView

Prior to ASP.NET 3.5, developers who needed to display a set of records could choose between the GridView, DataList, and Repeater controls. The GridView provides rich data features, but has a very boxy layout; the DataList and Repeater allow for a more flexible layout, but lack the "point and click" data features found in the GridView, DetailsView, and FormView controls. The ListView bridges the gap between layout flexibility and built-in data features.

This article, the first in a series of articles on the ListView and DataPager controls, looks at the ListView's many available templates and illustrates how to display data. Read on to learn more!

I previously made a master slave datagrid using Visual Studio 2003 .Net (original article) that would allow users to show data to clients using collapse and expand features. These features however did not carry over to gridview for many users. This tutorial will explaing how to create a collapsable/expandable gridview in frameworks 2.0 and higher

How to programmatically add controls to Windows forms at run time by using Visual C#

Create a Windows Forms Application
Start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 or a later version, and create a new Visual C# Windows Application project named WinControls. Form1 is added to the project by default.
Double-click Form1 to create and view the Form1_Load event procedure.
Add private instance variables to the Form1 class to work with common Windows controls. The Form1 class starts as follows:
ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
