VB 2010 - Currency Textbox will not accept pennies (anything after decimal)

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :JQuery

I have several textboxes with an Advanced Data Binding of "Currency" with "Null value = 0.00" and "Decimal Places = 2".  The textboxes perform financial calculations, but when you put a penny amount (regardless of dollar amount), the textbox will lock up and not allow you to exit the program or click on any other textbox.

If I go into the 'Advanced Data Binding' property of any of the textboxes, then I change the 'Data Source Update Mode' to "Never", I can then click out of the textbox. It does not allow me to save, however.

Why is this happening? Is there a better way to have a currency textbox?

Thanks in advance.

Currency and number column error with office 2007 document formats in SharePoint 2010 library

Hi there,

The following error occurred within a SharePoint 2010 document library:

As I tried to test out the new SharePoint 2010 environment I changed the metadata from a few documents within a document library. I noticed that the data from the currency und number field was incorrect from a few documents. The numbers looked like that the decimal separator were ignored. For an example: 123.456,78 was saved as 12.345.678.

At first I thought it could be a language incompabilty but if that would be the case: Why would there be other documents which show the correct number?

I created another document library to recreate this error. And there I noticed the real reason: Every time I changed these fields from a document which was saved in the office 2007 format the error occurred. The metadata from the documents in the office 2003 format were correct.

Has anyone a similar problem or got an idea how to solve this problem?

All TextBox controls in ASP.NET UpdatePanel won't accept any input after post-back

 My code behind is VB.NET. I use ASP.NET UpdatePanel like the following. However, after the post-back, all textbox in UpdatePanel won't accept any input, except when I move the mouse over and click on the TextBox.

  • Here's why I use UpdatePanel:

    During the post-back, after inserting data into DB, set all TextBox text property to String.Empty

    After the form is submitted, the Panel pStudent should be refresh , not the entire page

    and the TextBox txtId is set in focus again.

It's very strange that this happened to me today. I used UpdatePanel before many time I never had such problem.

Can anyone show me why  all TextBox controls in UpdatePanel won't accept any input after the post-back even though the textbox is focused , only when you move mouse click in them?

    <asp:UpdatePanel ID="upPOS" runat="server">
            <asp:Panel ID="pStudent" runat="server" CssClass="InContentInfoLight"
        DefaultButton="btnSubmit" GroupingText="Cafeteria - POS">
                <br />
                <div class ="divleftcolumn-six">

InfoPath 2010 - decimal field (2digit) converting large number to scientific notation

Hi Everyone,

I hope there is a simple solution to this issue.

We have built an InfoPath form for the web. Data from the form is mapped and written to SQL Server 2008 tables. The values are retrieved when the form is reopened. The form is accessed world wide and uses various currency types. Some of the values that we need in the decimal fields are quite large, e.g. 999,999,999,999,999.00. (we don't use currency sign because different curencies use different signs.)

When the amount shown is entered and saved an error occurs and the values have been converted to scientific notation. The field lengths are long enough for the value but still the scientific notation appears. The largest number that I've been able to enter without it converting is 9,999,999,999.00.

Any thoughts on how this conversion to scientific numbers can be prevented. This only occurs on a web based form.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

SSRS 2008 - Passing parameter into textbox - can't seem to apply formatting to it (date/currency)

I have a report that is displaying a parameter in a textbox inside the report.

Now I right clicked on the textbox, went to properties, and set number formatting to: Date - 01/31/2000

However, when I render the report it does not display the date in that format. It displays it in the way the sproc returns it which is: 5/13/2011 3:08:30 PM

I tried changing the parameter type to TEXT instead of datetime, made no difference.

I am having the same problem with currency. I will return 12345 and it will just display that way in the textbox instead of $12,345.00.

Any suggestions?

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:

Architecture Tools in VSTS 2010

Designing new functionality on existing applications can be daunting. There are always differences between the original design and the current implementation.

The new Architecture tools within Visual Studio Team System 2010 help you understand the application you have, design new functionality you need, and validate that your design and your implementation do not deviate.

VB and C# enhancements in VS 2010

In Visual Studio 2010, we've made several enhancements to our two most popular languages, Visual Basic and C#, to give programmers all the tools they need to build great software no matter which language they prefer.

The Visual Basic team focused on adding productivity features to the language so developers can get more done in fewer lines of code. The most common customer request for Visual Basic is to remove the underscore ("_") character when breaking a code statement across multiple lines in most cases. Visual Basic 10 introduces implicit line continuation, which removes the need for the underscore character in most cases.

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

Textbox Editable GridView in ASP.NET

This article describes how I made a fully editable gridview in C# using ASP.NET 2. The idea is that the GridView looks and works like an Excel spreadsheet. You see all the cells in the table, and you can edit any of the cells you like, and they are automatically updated (i.e. saved to the database). This is very often how people expect data tables to work in web pages, and I've often seen people clicking in vain on un-editable gridview cells, somehow expecting to edit them, and not understanding that they need to click an Edit button at the end of the row.

VS 2010 and .NET 4 Series

VS 2010 and .NET 4 are the next major releases of our developer tools and framework. Together they contain a ton of new functionality and improvements that I think you'll really like, and which make building applications of all types easier, faster and better. The improvements range from nice small tweaks to major, major enhancements - and can be found across the .NET Framework, the languages, and the IDE.

Highlighting Rows with TextBox OnFocus

In another article I explained that how you can make the rows of the GridView control clickable and highlight them when they are clicked. In this article I will explain that how you can highlight the GridView rows when you focus on the TextBox which is contained inside the GridView control.

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

This is a big deal. This isn't ".NET 3.6" - there are a lot of improvements of .NET 4, and it's not just "pile on a bunch of features so you get overwhelmed." I've been working with and talking to many of the teams involved and even though it's a cheesy thing to say, this is a really customer-focused release.

ASP 4 - Whirlwind Tour around .NET 4 (and Visual Studio 2010) Beta 1

There's a lot of stuff that's new and added in .NET 4, but not in that "overwhelming-I-need-to-relearn-everything" way. More in that, "oh, this is way easier/simpler now" way. Like, moving data around with ADO.NET DataServices is easy, binding with client templates is easy, there's F# if you need it, the "dynamic" keyword if you need it, Silverlight's already installed, oh, and the parallel stuff will freak you out, but in a good way.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.
