VS2010 build errors after changing language

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

I have forms in english and japanese. I needed to change to position of some controls and did so first in english. This built ok but when I changed to japanese and redid the control and that buld was ok. But when I changed back to the Default language setting the build failed lines as foolows had appeared in the Resources.Designer.cs file:

            this.MyLabel.ImageKey = global::AdminTool.Properties.Resources_de.String1;

error:

 error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Resources_de' does not exist in the namespace 'MyApp.Properties' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

Why it's looking for german resources I have no clue. (there are german and french resource files but we've not touched them). The ImageKey line didn't even exist before.

Of course a similar project in VS2008 doesn't have this problem.

Any help gratefully received...

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
<html>
<body>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!
</form>
</body>
</html>

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

Problem with changing language using culture info

I'm using the following msdn article to use different languages in my web application:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fw69ke6f(v=VS.80).aspx

I'm following the instructions step by step in VS 2010, and it creates the resource files exactly how it's supposed to.

However, when I run the program it just doesn't apply it. I don't see the different values from the resource file.

If I leave my resource file name as sample.aspx.resx, it works. But when I change it to sample.aspx.en-us.resx, it doesn't work. I'm supplying culture from the aspx page's Culter and UICulture properties. I'm being very careful in choosing the correct file name, as that could be the issue,  but it just doesn't work. I also tried changing the culture in the backend code this way:

Changing datacontext gives binding errors

On the change of the datacontext (of a user control), I check the type of the datacontext. If required (in my case, the datacontext is of a specific type), I want to change the datacontext. As soon as I change the datacontext, the DataContext property is correctly updated. However, I still get binding errors that "Property 'x' is not found on type 'y'", where 'y' is the old datacontext type. Is there any specific steps I have to take to successfully update the datacontext (and the bindings) to the new datacontext object?Geert van Horrik - CatenaLogic Visit my blog: http://blog.catenalogic.com Looking for a way to deploy your updates to all your clients? VS2010 Web App does not build Release - Could not load AjaxControlToolkit error

I have a VS2010 Web Application that uses the AjaxControlToolkit. I am able to build the Debug configuration. When I build the release configuration I get the following error message: Error 89 Could not load file or assembly 'file:///S:\My Code\Libraries\ACT\May 2010\AjaxControlToolkit.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515) S:\My Code\EZFishing\EZFishing\EZFishing\SGEN EZFishing The location of the file is correct, and I just downloaded and unzipped there the Ajax CT. I have always built this app correctly before upgrading to VS2010 and ACT May 2010. Any idea of what is going on? Thank you in advance for your help. Mauro

"There were build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?" Not Showing

I am working in VS 2008 and while i was running some code i got a dialog box saying

"There were build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?"

I just ran out of mind and clicked on the "don't show this again" checkbox and closed the dialogue.

Now my problem is that, i want that dialog to pop up again.. I tried various settings in Tools--> Options, but none seems to work..

How can i get that box again???

"significant whitespace" build errors in workflows with custom designers (with attached sample proje

I'm using some custom designers in a workflow and occasionally get a combo of errors that don't make much sense.

On the designer surface, the following error is shown:

Cannot create unknown type '{clr-namespace:HurrDurr.Activities}MyActivity'.
System.Xaml.XamlObjectWriterException: Cannot create unknown type '{clr-namespace:HurrDurr.Activities}MyActivity'.
   at System.Xaml.XamlObjectWriter.WriteStartObject(XamlType xamlType)
   at blah blah yadda yadda...

In the error list, I get the following error:

Error 1 XC1020: Build error occurred in the XAML MSBuild task: 'The value ' ' contains significant white space(s) but "xml:space = preserve" cannot be written down on the member '{clr-namespace:HurrDurr.Activities;assembly=HurrDurr}MyActivity.Variables'.'

So the designer says the type is unknown, and the error list says I have some issue with significant whitespace.  Except I don't, or cannot find it.

VS2010 designer errors with x64 configuration

With an empty x64 WPF project I can't import the project's own namespace. Can the WPF designer in VS2010 be used on a x64 project, or what am I doing wrong?

Below are the steps that reproduce this problem.

Using:Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 pro Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.0.30319 RTMRel

Launch VS2010 IDE
File > New Project > WPF Application
 Targeting .NET Framework 4
 Name = WpfApplication1
 Solution name = WpfApplication1

Open MainWindow.xaml in xaml editor
add (xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1")

Designer error "Undefined CLR namespace. The 'clr-namespace' URI refers to a namespace 'WpfApplication1' that is not included in the assembly."
Build solution (successful)
Error disappears

Open Configuration Manager
Click Active solution platform. Select <New...>
Select new platform as x64. Click OK. Close Configuration Manager.

Error reappears: "Undefined CLR namespace. The 'clr-namespace' URI refers to a namespace 'WpfApplication1' that is not included in the assembly."

Rebuild solution (successful)
Error remains and designer is now useless.

Changing Default Language for British Date Format

Hi,

After reading several topics about Datetime formats from US-English to British, I got more confused.  I have successfully changed Default Language on my local machine's SQL Server Express using this:

EXEC sp_configure 'default language', '23'
GO
RECONFIGURE;

But I can't change it on a Server side.  It prompts me to run 'RECONFIGURE' again and when I do I am getting this error:

"Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) is not supported in this edition of SQL Server."

Changing WindowsIdentity creates sql login errors for integrated security connections

I am using winows authentication to connect to a web page and user.identity and principle.windowsidentity are showing as my currently logged in active directory user.  I can successfully connect to SQL Server with a integrated security connection string at this point.

I then prompt the user for login as a different account on the domain and change the principle.windowsidentity to this login using

<DllImport(

"advapi32.dll", SetLastError:=True)> Private Shared Function LogonUser(ByVal lpszUsername As String

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.

Convert English to Arabic number without changing any regional settings in .net

Well, most applications that I worked with was multilingual that supports English UI and Arabic UI.

And one of the major issue that we have faced is displaying Arabic numbers without the need of changing the regional settings of the PC.

So the code below will help you to display Arabic number without changing any regional settings.
