Error Accessing Oracle Database in a visual web part.

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hello All,

I'm new to SharePoint development.  I’ve the development box set up with Windows 7 64 bit, share point development environment installed (SharePoint Foundation) with all the hot fixes and I’m able to create and publish a visual webpart and access it. I’ve also installed the 32-bit ODAC (ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio) and I see the Oracle.DataAccess file in the GAC installed. Here are the results from GAC

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC>gacutil /l Oracle.DataAccess

Error code -2068578304 When Installing Express SP1 x64 as a Part of Visual Studio 2010 Installation

Howdy! I was installing the VS 2010 on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and all of a sudden the setup finished with " Setup completed, however, there were failures reported installing optional components. " The final status is success. The left-hand pane of the finish page reads as: The following component failed to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64).   Leaving alone the fact why setup executed the custom action that tried to install SQL Server Express Edition and Compact Edition when I just asked it to install SQL components (which presumably should be SQL SMO and DMO libraries), I would like to understand what had happed to Express install.   Inspecting the .\Logs\dd_error_vs_vstdcore_100.txt file gives the following record:   [09/16/10,16:06:51] Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64): [2] Error code -2068578304 for this component is not recognized. Error to Add a Database to a Visual Studio 2010 Project via the App_Data Folder

I am trying to add a new database via the App_Data Folder and I receive an error described below.

When I attempt to add ANY TYPE OF SQL SERVER DATABASE through the App_Data folder I receive this error "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2008 to function properly.  Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl."

I can create a db via SQL Server Mgmt Studio, it connects fine, and I can see tables.

Visual Studio- Server Explorer connects fine to the Database, I can see the tables.

Im running XP SP3 w/ Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer.  I had previously removed SQL Server Express.

Why cant I access the database within my project, when Im able to connect to this fine within Visual Studio Server Explorer?

Oracle.DataAccess causes 64 bit / 32 bit error in ASP.NET / Visual Studio 2005

This one is driving me nuts.

I have developed some ASP.NET pages using Web Developer Express on a 64 bit (Intel Xeon Quad core) machine. This has gone very well, part of my code access an Oracle database using the Oracle.DataAccess.Client namespace (Oracle 64 bit ODP.NET version 2.102.3.2). All works beautifully.

Just bought the full version of Visual Studio 2005, and now when I try to build my web site, I get an error saying "Attempted to load a 64-bit assembly on a 32-bit platform...". The site won't build.

This makes no sense to me. ASP.NET is configured to run under the 64 bit .NET 2.0 framework. A call to IntPtr.Size on a page confirms that ASP.NET is running in 64 bit mode. So why should VS 2005 tell me I am trying to load a 64 bit assembly on a 32 bit platform???

I have SP1 for VS2005, by the way...

Incredibly frustrating...

Unspecified error (MS Visual Database Tools) in SSMSEE

I get an unspecified error message when I try to manage tables in a SQL Server 2008 express edition using SSMSEE 2005.  I am connected to a 2008 instance.  I found a post in this forum with exactly the same Title, but it does not solve my problem.

.NET Exceptions: Make the Transition from Traditional Visual Basic Error Handling to the Object-Orie

If you're used to Visual Basic 6.0 and you're making the transition to Microsoft .NET, you will find that error handling is quite different from what you've used for years. Visual Basic .NET uses a more object-oriented solution to signaling and responding to unexpected problems while your program is running. This approach, called structured exception handling, has a number of advantages over the On Error statements provided in previous versions of Visual Basic. For instance, exceptions give you lots more information about exactly what went wrong in your app. To help you take advantage of this modern error handling paradigm, this article will show you how to raise and respond to exceptions, as well as how to create your own custom exception classes.

Visual Web Dev 2010 error or new user error?

In a new web app, using the fresh new build, I added some fields that I wanted processed during login, i.e. common Profile stuff... added them to web.config.... sadly it appears that Studio 2010 will not automatically create a ProfileCommon class from ProfileBase, as previous studio web IDE's would do - that was frustrating for a bit, then I just created my own class... but that led to this interesting problem.

When populating the new profile attributes, the code behind class could not resolve any of the textbox referenced, all showed as not defined... figuring it was something simple, I kept going... added a customValidation control I needed, but though I double clicked the event in studio, and it dutifully created the stub code for me... the event never fired.

Determined to locate the problem I poored through forum entries and every reference I could (found lots of folks complaining about the profileCommon class stuff which is what led me to create my own class finally) -- but nothing specific to the problem I had of not seeing defined controls that were clearly there and working nor my customValidator control.

But... all of the code samples I saw - none had the ContentTemplate section... curious I removed that section, other items started to fail that were logical (header tags, etc.) but, my code behind section snapped back into order, intelisense n
