Clients cannot access companyweb after upgrade

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hi, before I start just wanted to say yes- I am a dummie, please treat me like one in your replies so I may understand you.

Upgraded from Wss3.0 to sharepoint 2010 last night. All went well and all site content is restored and as was before I started. The problem I have relates to prompts for credentials from clients when trying to access http://companyweb Obviously done a lot of googling and can't seem to get past people with problems on the actual clients (or at least that is the suggestion). Now I'm guessing that due to the fact that it worked fine a few hours before the upgrade and then not after that it is a authentication problem on the newly upgraded site? Full scenario below

I can access http://companyweb from the server

I can access https://remote.domain.com:987 from any location

when trying to access http://companyweb from clients (WIN7 with all updates applied) I get the credentials box pop up. It will not accept standard user or administrative credentials and after 3 attempts returns a completely blank page

I want to resolve this ASAP as I plan to create a bigger headache for myself connecting windows phone 7 devices to sharepoint, but I'm not touching that till this is resolv

Migration of DSN use for SQL Server access from Windows SP-3 clients to Windows 7 64 bit client

We have numerous apps which use a named DSN using SQLSRV32.dll for an ODBC connection from our Windows XP-Pro SP3 32 bit machines client access to remote windows 2003 based SQL servers (mix of 2005 and 2008).  On migrating to Windows 7, this dll will not allow the apps to use the newly constructed DSN (using SQLSRV32.dll with ODBC), even though a test connection is sucessful (abbeit much slower than seen on the XP-Pro machines).  What must I use on the Windows 7 64 bit machine to allow a DSN to be used by the migrated apps?  - I have descerned through Google that WDAC is now the tool to use, but I am cluless how to use it. - The expectations from the app on the Windows XP-Pro and on the Windows 7 64 bit machines is to use a DSN to connect to SQL servers on Windows 2003. I would appreciate any advice, and thanks!

Access Denied/The workflow could not copy the item workflow error after Sharepoint 2010 upgrade

We have a sharepoint designer workflow that copies a document from one library to another on the same site.  Before the upgrade to 2007 it worked fine, but now with 2010 it gives an error and cancels the workflow when it gets to the copy list item step.   The error on the workflow page: The workflow could not copy the item. Make sure the source and destination lists have the same columns and column settings.  Access Denied   Specifically it is the "copy list item current item to documentlibrary" sharepoint designer workflow action.   I have given the system account full permissions to the library and double checked that all columns are the same in both libraries. Cannot access companyweb from server or client 2003

I have tried a number of different things, none that have worked so far. I am unable to access companyweb from either the sbs 2003 r2 or from clients. I get the "Internet Explorer cannot access the webpage" error. It worked at one time, but we had consultants working on several other things and it quit.

I do not know what specifically changed. RWW works.

Here is nbtstat from the server:

Edit access denied on publishing site - content db upgrade

There was a problem a while back in MOSS that caused users with proper rights to get access denied messages when attempting to edit or create items... something to do with the PermMask field needing the RenderXMLUsingPattern attribute to be set to true.

In a publishing site that was content db upgraded to 2010, I'm seeing the same issue, but PermMask is fine.  The problem seems to be with the "Publishing Site with Workflow" site template, because if I create a new subsite in this collection and give a content management user group any level of rights to it, including full control, the error persists in the new subsite.  However, if I create a vanilla team site in the collection, there's no issue.  The site collection has also been backed up and restored in a test environment to isolate any farm- or server-related issues.  Edit: both environments are also patched to August CU.

Anyone find a way around this without resorting to demolition?

In the logs, I'm seeing the following lines (user actually has 0x7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF):

PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00010000, have 0x00000000
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x4000000000000000, have 0xB008431061

Migrate/Upgrade from Office 2003 (Excel, Access...etc) to Office 2010

We are about to begin a project to upgrade our MS-Office suite from 2003 to Office 2010.  This will include the migration of a large number of excelwork books with macros and access database and forms,   Is there an established (or tried and true) process for conducting the analysis work to determine if the excelwork books require individual attention (evaluation, conversion and testing) or can be converted in bulk?

Are there any know issues?

Our company have a strong support relation with microsoft, Does any one know the perfect person who did similar kind of work or can help to do this?

Thanks, Vijay

Trying to upgrade MSXML2 SOAP code to WCF with out access to the Webservice.

Hi I am currently investigating how I can change the following code into WCF, But all the examples I have seen require a live web service. To anybodies knowledge is there a way to generate WCF code without access to the Web service the developer is generating code against?

Also due to the nature of the web service I am calling it uses specific soap calls for each of it RPC services. Please see below the code which currently uses MSXML2 which I am currently trying to upgrade.

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

Store and Display Images from MS Access Database Using C#

There is only the difference of coding syntax to stream the binary data of image content type to upload it into MS Access Database using C#/VB in ASP.Net 2.0

Namespaces required:-
using System.Data.OleDb;

OleDb is used to connect the web site forms with MS Access Database using Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0

ASP.Net Upload Image to MS Access Database

As you learnt from the previous articles to upload image to the SQL Database in ASP.Net 2.0 and stream that image into the memory to retrieve it from the database and display it on the web page. In this article you will learn how to upload images to the MS Access database in ASP.Net 2.0

First of all create an Access Database and place it in the App_Data folder of ASP.Net web site project. Then create a table "tblImg" with the following fields:

Wrong Account being used to access files - Help - No Impersonation

I run a simple .aspx website on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

There is NO impersonation, and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name returns NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE, which it the account which the application pool runs. In my web.config, I have <authentication mode="Forms">.

I tried to test the security of the application and server by removing file permissions to the .aspx files. I was greatly worried when the website continued to run without problem (it should not have been able to read the .aspx files).

By turning on file level auditing, I discovered that the .aspx files were being read by the machine$ account (if the machine is called Serv1, then the files would be read by the Serv1$ account, which seems to have access to all files on the local machine).

Is this a security breach or is this behaviour by design ?

Please can somebody assist, as I am worried.

Disallow Direct Access To Files

Here is my dilema, on my site i have a WordPress Audio player (http://wpaudioplayer.com/standalone) that plays my mp3's.

It loads the Mp3's in by javascript...example below:

       AudioPlayer.embed("audioplayer_7", { soundFile: "/Files/Music/[name of file].mp3" });

This file name is clearly visible in the browser source. Not a problem, however this means that any user can legitimately browse to the file directly and download it.

Now i still need the mp3 player (which is flash) to have access to the file but if a user was to try accessing the file directly, they would not be allowed access to it.

I am not sure how to go about this, i am circling the idea of a httphandler but not sure if this is sufficiant to stop the direct access to the file.

Any help would be appreciated

Access SessionState: via App1 to SessionState from App2

Hi .NET'ers,

i'm interested to do the following - i geuss, i have no option to do that:

we have our "mainapplication" on a DB; we are tracking user-login status by switching a bit in the DB in the users data row.

we hvae a second application, the backend, which is the administration tool.

(the applications are put in seperate diretories on HD)

sometimes, we need to block/ban users. in some cases the users are logged in, when we "see them in action".

i'd like to build a button in the backend-application, which logss-out the user from the mainapplication.

for sure: i can access the same DB and switch the bit to "know" he's offline, but this will not kill the session on the mainapplication.

because: if a user is on/offline is also indicated by the session in the IIS.
and as the IIS-session is active, the user may be already banned - but he will not be logged out automatically (and showing something like "you have been logged out because of a ban)

one option would be to call the DB by each page-load to find out, if the user is logged on.

is there any option to implement this?

Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

Hi all,

I was rummaging the internet learning aspx and came across the concept of: Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET
