SP2007 to 2010 database upgrade received SPUpgradeException

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have simply exported WSS_Content database on SP2007 farm to SP2010 farm with SQL Server Management Studio and renamed it as WSS_Content_Imported. I also created a new Web Application with default empty content database WSS_Content on SP2010 farm.

Opened PowerShell and run as Administrator.

Test-SPContentDatabase -Name WSS_Content_Imported -WebApplication http://sp

Lots of errors. However, all UpgradeBlockings are False. Then I tried to upgrade with

Dismount-SPContentDatabase -Identity WSS_Content

Mount-SPContentDatabase -Name WSS_Content_Imported -WebApplication http://sp

Failed. It returns:

Mount-SPContentDatabase : Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpg

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

Upgrade 2007-2010 Database Attach

Hi all,

Having read many of the articles abot upgrading 2007-2010, I wanted to see if a simple approach would work.

  1. Ran the pre-upgrade checker
  2. Simply detached the DB in SQL (SQL Manager only), forcing the connections to close
  3. Copied the DB to the new server
  4. Re-attached the original DB to the 2007 server
  5. Attached the copied DB to the 2010 box
  6. Ran the shell command to attach to a web application
  • All seems to work

The content databases in question are quite simple and test units, and we are moving from the staging server to production, is this a valid approach?

Also, before I try wih a 'real' db, is there any harm done in detaching/re-attaching on the original 2007 server?

How do I upgrade the SSP database from 2007 to 2010

I'm doing a database attach upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to 2010.
So far, I have successfully attached and upgraded my content db. The next step is to attach and upgrade the SSP database containing all my User Profile data. To do so, I have followed the guidelines from this article:

It says, that I should run this command:

stsadm -o addcontentdb -databasename [my_ssp_db_name] -url [???]

One of my questions is, what value should I set for the url parameter?

The SSP site from 2007 doesn't exist anymore in 2010, so I can't figure out what the url value should be. I have tried to set the value to the url to my upgraded intranet url, but that generates an error say

SharePoint 2007 Upgrade to 2010 and the SSP database (woops)

OK everyone, I got myself a little stuck on something. We upgraded SP 2007 to 2010 in test, planned the production upgrade and upgraded production using the database attach approach, everything went pretty well except...

Users complained pretty quickly that their 'My Links' were missing and that the profile information they had previousely entered was gone... hmmm... we didn't actually check that stuff during testing, oops.

Well looking at the documentation I 'quickly' realized I had missed a step during the upgrade, both in test and prod; I never upgraded the SSP database. I created a new profile service, synch'd with AD, managed meta data service is working, upgraded the mysite content databases and bam, everything was good, or maybe not so good because I'm missing profile information that was manually entered by users.

So of course all the documentation says you need to attach that SSP database during the creation of the Profile Service, well I'm not recreating my profile service... no way. Is it to late to upgrade the SSP database? Do my users just need to start with fresh profiles and suck it up or is there some way I can get that profile data into my new environment?

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 after mistanely de

I need a detailed instruction on how to upgrade From Upgrading from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0  (SBS 2003 ) to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Background of the case:

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence  I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation 2010. The Sharepoint foundation 2010 is running on a Microsoft HyperV Server 2008 R2
Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server... http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt response. Nelson

Using a SQL Server CE database in Visual Studio 2010

I am working on a VS 2010 C# project that is supposed to connect to a Sql Server 2008 CE 3.5 database.  I added the database to the project, and am trying to establish a new SqlConnection. The directory path of the database is: W:\MCT\Development\LocalReportExample\LocalReports\TestCEDatabase.sdf  I am trying to set my ConnectionString as follows: test = @"Data Source=W:\MCT\Development\LocalReportExample\LocalReports\TestCEDatabase.sdf"; connection.ConnectionString = test; connection.Open();  When the code executes, it throws an error message stating that the database was not found, or is inaccesible.  Is my ConnectionString wrong?  Is there possibly something I haven't configured correctly in the database setup?

We upgraded to SharePoint 2010.  I have all the managed properties setup the same on both versions.  I had to modify the query to get past one error I was receiving to SELECT FileExtension, Filename, EffectiveDate, Title, Author, State, PolicyType, ApplicationType, Pol

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

problem rename sharepoint 2010 search service application admin database

Hi all, i have a problem that hopefully someone has an answer to.  i am not too familiar with sharepoint so please excuse my ignorance. we have sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008r2 server.  everything seems to work fine.  but as you know, the default database names are horrendous.  i have managed to rename all of them, except for the "search service application" admin database. the default is: Search_Service_Application_DB_<guid> the other 2 databases (crawl and property) were renamed without a problem. we are following the article from technet on how to rename the search service admin db (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/library/ff851878%28en-us%29.aspx).  it says to enter the following command: $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -DatabaseName "new database name" -DatabaseServer "dbserver" however, i get an error about identity being null.  no big deal, i add the -Identity switch and the name of my search service application.  but the real problem comes the error it throws:   Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication : The requested database move was aborted as the associated search application is not paused.
