Is it possible to link content from a spreadsheet/document with a field in the document information

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Lets assume the following:

I have an excel spreadsheet set as the template for a document library. There is a cell on the excel sheet in which the user manually enters a reference number. I'd like the document information panel to pick up this reference number from the cell, publishing it in a column on the document library when saved.

Alternatively the reference number could be manually typed into the document information panel. This would require the cell to lookup and retrieve the reference number and display it on the sheet (for printing purposes).

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks.

Creating a custom column with a link to document (other than the name field) in document library

Hello!

I have a document library with the standard name column linking to the document. However, we'd like to create a custom field and have that link to the document (and edit item menu).

How is this best accomplished?

Thanks in advance!

Need to link multiple External Content List items to a single document metadata column

I have an external content list - for my purposes, the data isn't any fancier than a list of terms provided by a web service (read only - I don't need update/delete functionality). I want to be able to link any subset of those terms to a single document metadata column (in other words, I need it to work like a normal content list that is defined to allow multiple values in a column) but SharePoint doesn't let me do that on an ECL. I need the content list to be externally driven since more values are going to be added to an outside system over time, but I think it's possible that I may not need a full-fledged ECL list to make this work this way in SharePoint. Just to clarify: I don't need the metadata values in my documents to maintain a PERSISTENT link to the web service (if someone changes an underlying value in the web service DB, it doesn't need to be updated in the document table too). I just want SharePoint to offer up an updated set of source values from the web service if somebody goes in and edits the document metadata. Any ideas for how I can make this work?

How to Link to a Document content type but linking to a Folder

I have implemented the known "Link to a Document" content type to a Document Library (referenced below).  This works fine to documents, but we need to also enter UNC paths to Folders like file://\\servername\sharename\foldername

We can NOT create shortcuts to these folders, which is a work around someone else published.

If you add the Hyperlink field it allows you to enter a UNC path to externally stored folder just fine. So there must be some way to make this Link to a Document content type also open UNC Folders accurately.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW?

Cannot Use Excel Spreadsheet (xlsx) as Template for Content Types or Document Libraries

I have created a document library, specifying that the 'Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet' be used as the document template.  When I try to create a new document by selecting the template from the 'new Document' drop down, I get a message stating that 'The document could not be created.  The required application may not be installed properly, or the template for this document library cannot be opened.' Additionally, the template is opened as template[1].xltx in notepad (with all of the funny characters you would expect).

I have Office Professional Plus 2010 installed on my computer, and I am able to open XLSX and XLTX files from SharePoint (just not from the 'new document' button).  I also have no problem with PowerPoint or Word templates in SharePoint. I am also able to open the excel template by navigating to the template in explorer view.  I've found that if I open Excel before I attempt to create a new document, the template will open in Excel, however the document is titled 'Template1' instead of 'Document1' as would be expected.  Any thoughts?

Custom Choice Field in Document Information Panel

Hello Everybody,

I have created a custom field from SPFieldChoice. My requirement was to customize this custom field in such a way that the dropdown can show items from a specified list. This column type I created specifically for a document library meta data.

I tried to add items to the Choices collection (within the constructor). It seems working fine as I can see the dropdown populated perfectly while uploading documents. But at the same time in the Document Information Panel of the MS WORD, it is not showing properly. What happening is, the dropdown values are not "dynamic". Even if I change the values in my list, the doropdown within the DIP stays same.

Mean time, on the document upload page, it is showing dynamically.

if I remove the column and re-add, it populates again with that instantaneous list items, but remains static afterwards on the DIP.

BDC + Document Information Panel Javascript Error

I hope someone here can shed some light on this one...

We have a document library configured with a few content types and document information panels for those items. Also on this list we have a BDC column setup to pull client names from MS CRM. This works fine on the list itself, however, in Word 2007 - the picker does not show up in the DIP, so we cannot easily select clients without knowing the name (first issue).

Secondly, if we enter in a client name, or partial, we recieve the following error:

"There was an error in the validation code" - with the following details:
Document Information Panel cannot complete this action, because of an error
in the form's code.
The following error occurred:

Object required
FileTongue Tiedcript.js
Line:171

Any help is appreciated!

How to write an event to manage permissions on a document while uploading, depending on custom field

HI,

I am trying to find a solution to manage permissions on a document, while uploading it into a document library. This event has to be fired if a custom field is populated (it's a check box field).

How to write an event for this, i tried writing ItemAdded event, but this is getting fired as soon as a document is uploaded, before coming to the page, where we populate all the fields and hit check in.

can i capture Check-in event.

Please advise.

How do I get the Name link to go to document properties instead of the doc itself?

Hello.  I need to link my documents/photos/etc to their properties page (DispForm.aspx), not directly to the item itself.  How do I change my code to do this?  I have SharePoint Designer, but I'm no big expert.  I have looked through all the different column names and types and cannot find one that does this.  Thanks.  Oh, I'm on WSS 3.0.

How to find the content height of the Flow document?

Hi Dudes, I have a RichTextBox control in my application. When the user types the content inside the RichTextBox and clicks ok i need to validate such that the content that the user entered should not overflow the controls Height. So i need to find the height of the FlowDocument property of the RichTextBox Control. I dont have an option to find the height found one way from surfing around        double GetDocumentHeight()         {             Rect rectStart = Document.ContentStart.GetCharacterRect(LogicalDirection.Forward);             Rect rectEnd = Document.ContentEnd.GetCharacterRect(LogicalDirection.Forward);             if (!Double.IsInfinity(rectEnd.Bottom) && !Double.IsInfinity(rectStart.Top))             {                 return rectEnd.Bottom - rectStart.Top;             }             else             {

Document Information Panel problem with Infopath

Hi, I have created a custom document content type that uses a specified word template deployed by a feature for a sharepoint site collection. The Content Type is defined in site collection level i have add a column also defined as a site column called "Abstract", and I added this column to my content type. Now I want to create a custom DIP using Infopath, when infopath is launched it maps all column from this content type. The problem that the "Abstract" column wich is defined as rich text and optional column is not mapped correctly Infopath show that field as a required field and can not be blank. When i added this content type to a document library and try to create a new document i have an error "Document Information Panel cannot create.. problem on the schema with Abstract field". When i try to modify the xsn file at the document library level and republish the form it works but when i do it in the site collection level it's impossible to map the field properly. Any suggestions about what might be causing this problem or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. ABT

Display the content of a Word document in a web part?

Hello all,We are planning to display the content of the word document pulling document from document library in a web page in sharepoint as a web part. So, based on above requirement , I have to display word document in a container/control which allows word document to edit, read and save it back to document library.I know that if you have Office 2007 installed we can convert the word document to web page and display it in the page viewer web part but we have office 2003 suite. So we are looking for web part which can display the content of the word document inline with the web page. Thanks in advacne,Chakri

Document Library "export to spreadsheet" doesn't export all columns in Excel 2003

Hi, we are working with MOSS 2007, Infopath Forms Services, KPIs and Excel 2003. There is a view for some data of the Infopath forms which has to be exported to Excel by our users, but some columns are not exported - without any error message. If I try to export it to Excel 2007 everything is exported as expected, but our users have to use Excel 2003. Any idea?

Unable to collaborate on document in SharePoint Workspace which has Content Type with more than look

1/ Add a new document into Shared Document library. 2/ In Shared Document of this workspace, add new content type having 12 lookup columns. 3/ Create a new workspace 4/ Add a user into the workspace with the editable permission (Contribute or Full Control). 5/ Open the document in Word 2007, in the Document Management Pane Using system account: the document is shown in the Document tab. Using normal account: the document is not shown in the Document tab. 6/ If we use Dws.GetDwsMetaData method to get information of the workspace site and lists it contains then:    + Using system account credential, this method returns the document's information in Shared Document library. The result contains the below xml data: <List Name="Documents"> <ID>{CFEDFC3C-2AD3-4A0E-88B6-821BF57CACDB}</ID> <z:row ows_FileRef="Shared Documents/Test Content Type.docx" ows_FSObjType="0" ows_Created="2010-09-01T02:38:31Z" ows_Author="1073741823;#System Account" ows_Modified="2010-09-01T02:38:31Z" ows_Editor="1073741823;#System Account" ows_ID="1" ows_ProgID="" xmlns:z="#RowsetSchema" /> </List>     + Using the normal user credential, this method does not return the document information in Shared Document library. Is there a way to parse information in a word document and store them on a list (MOSS2007)? (Without

My current project requires me to parse through a Word document with tables that simulate a form. However Infopath isn't an available rescource for me. For example I'm to bring all information in the notes cell onto a list in sharepoint. Ultimately i'll be using a view to display that list through a webpart on a dashboard like interface on a sharepoint page. Is this possible? or is Info Path really the only way to go about this?
