"Actions / Open With Access" Always Fails with Access 2007.

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hello,

I am trying to open a List with the Actions / Link with Access functionality.  Every time I try, it simply opens up the MS Access interface as though I had gone through the Start button and selected MS Access.  However, it shows the name of the database, in the right side panel, that was in the "Open with Microsoft Access" dialog box that opens after you select Link with Access.  If you click on the database name, I get an error box saying that the database doesn't exist.

The caveat here is that it used to work.  I have a database that I have been using to run reports and custom queries on a List.  Now, if I click on the Linked Table, I get the error message "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the '[object]' object.  Have your sys admin or the person who created the object establish teh appropriate permissions for you."

I am the one who created the list and I have admin rights to this area of Sharepoint.

I have also tried to perform the same tasks to another Sharepoint site where I have full Admin rights over the entire site.  Same problem.

The version of Sharepoint is 12.0.0.6539.

I also have MS Office 2003, Project and Visio, installed on my PC.

Any ideas or thoughts on what the problem may be?  Our Sharepoint techs and our

Linked Server to access Excel 2007

Hi

I'm tried SELECT * INTO XXX FROM OPENROWSET alongwith Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0.

Apparently the query requires the sql account to have SYSADMIN privileges.

Considering that SYSADMIN should not be provided to a database account on a Production Server, I tried using the Linked Server method.

Following is my code.

Exec sp_addlinkedserver 'AB2','Ace 12.0','Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0','\\202.46.215.35\sagarr\Test1\cpc\c2\AB2.xlsx',NULL,'Excel 12.0;IMEX=1'
Exec sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'AB2','false',NULL,NULL,NULL
go
SELECT * INTO [CPCAB2.xlsx] FROM OPENQUERY([AB2] ,'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')
Exec sp_dropserver 'AB2','droplogins'

Now i get the following error

Error.15247-User does not have permission to perform this action

My Excel file, Database and Windows Application run on separate machines.

i have provided the following privileges

GRANT ALTER ANY LOGIN TO sqlaccount
GRANT ALTER ANY LINKED SERVER TO sqlaccount

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
RECONFIGURE
EXEC sp_configure 'ad hoc distributed queries', 1
RECONFIGURE

Problem connecting to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express from Access 2007

I have a problem with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with MS Access 2007. I am running Windows 7 with 8 gigs memory. I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. Do I now need to install SP1 because I am running with Windows 7? I can open SQL Server using the Management Screen but I cannot connect to MS Access 2007 using SQL Server Express as the database. When trying to connect to SQL Server from Access 2007, I keep getting the message that SQL Server 2005 cannot be found. It will not allow me to sign onto sql server 2008 stating that it cannot be found. Do I have to now run the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1? Is there an upgrade to MS Access 2007 which will allow me to use SQL Server 2008 R2 Express?

Task assignment to user without read access in 2007 results in no email to assignee, no warning to a

It appears (from observation and searching) that SP 2007 will not send a task assignment email when the assignee does not have read access for the assigned task and there is no warning when assigning a task to someone who will be unable to read it. I have not been able to find any mentions of attempting to address this quirk by either an item event listener or a workflow that would either prevent the assignment or task the originating user to fix the issue by either changing the assignment or having them added to the appropriate group.  I could see one done badly causing a cascade of tasks. The approaches that I've thought about are: Attempt to block assignment by hooking ItemAdding and ItemUpdating on the task content type.  In ItemUpdating, you could use SPListItem.DoesUserHavePermissions since the SPListItem should be there, but you'd may have check the list since I don't think SPListItem is available at that time.  I could see this causing problems when the assignment is via workflow or something that doesn't like other code interfering with its task creation. Hooking ItemAdded and ItemUpdated to assign a new task to the assigning user to either change the assignment or have the assignee added to the users with access to the site. Define a workflow which could be enabled for a list that would check if any new or modified task is assigned to users with

Authentication for External Users to Access MOSS 2007 Resources

Our MOSS 2007 supports users from two domains that authenticate using windows.  Our clients WindowsXP in domain#1 and WindowsVista in domain#2 (which has presented problems authenticating to MOSS 2007.  I would like to give access to external users outside of those two domains.  However, our management does not want to establish trusts between domains.  What would be the best practice to accomplish this?  Additionally, will MOSS 2010 or Forefront resolve these issues?

SharePoint 2007 to Access 2007 - Issues grouping by "Person or Group" field type/column

We are on SharePoint 2007 and using Access 2007.  The SharePoint list contains a column called Assigned Person, column type: Person or Group, single selection, displaying only the name 1) When we Open with Access and Export a copy of the data, then create a report from that table, we do not have the option to group on Assigned Person.  2) When we Open with Access and Link to data on the SharePoint site, then create a report from that list, when we group by Assigned Person... The same person has 2 groups - there are is no other grouping or sorts on the list, and i can't locate a correlation to another field to show why they would have to collections for the same person The Person or Group column sorts "from smallest to largest" as though it is a number field. The list is a task/activity tracking system we created custom for our needs.  We want to pull a weekly report, grouped by Assigned Person, but cannot get access to work.  We do not want to resort to anything more complex, as it takes a much longer process to have reports pulled by Chrystal or one of those types of applications.  And we cannot change out the field for something like a Choice column as the list already has a very large amount of content.  Can anyone assist? Is there a setting hiding somewhere that is causing the problem?

Link Access 2007 to SharePoint 2007 Survey

So here is my problemo. I am trying to organize site requests into a system that will let us easially see what requests have come in and who are the particular owners or users associated with the requests. Currently we use a SharePoint 2007 Survey to collect all the requests. I was hoping to upgrade things by linking the Survey list to an Access 2007 db so we can manage the data better. However, whenever I attempt to link the Access DB to a SharePoint list, none of the survey lists show up. I was wondering if there was a way to make it so whenever someone completes a survey, it updates the Access DB. I have figured out a way to get this to work with InfoPath but I would rather use the surveys that already exist. Thank you, Jeb G.

Access Denied while using Sharepoint designer 2007 to create a work flow

I am using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to create a work flow that sends emails to different people in a group depending on status of a record. For example, when some one reports a problem, an email is posted to concerned person and as soon as he/she checks the problem and updates the status an email is sent to next department and so on. Starting the work flow creation wizard is no problem but as soon as I press 'Finish' to create workflow I get 'Access Denied' message box. Any Ideas? I am using WSS 3.0 on 2003 Server.

Inplace upgrade from moss 2007 to 2010 fails

Hello experts I have tried without success to do an inplace upgarde of a moss 2007 installation that I would consider very basic.
