What are the benefits of SharePoint 2007 Enterprise over Alfresco Enterprise?

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Recently, I was asked to compare Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (2007) with Alfresco Enterprise for an ECM project.  The project will be mostly be MS Word files. I was surprised to learn that Alfresco can interact with MS Word, and the licensing costs less.

So other than pricing, what do you think are the benefits of SharePoint Enterprise over Alfresco Enterprise?

Running multiple websites in Sharepoint 2007 with AX2009 Enterprise Portal

I need to setup two separate webshops with public access and different layouts using AX2009 Enterprise Portal.

However I am uncertain how to implement two completely different layouts/designs because the Sharepoint Templates are located inside the 12 hive and not seperate for each website.

Can anybody give me some hints on how to do this - and if so, which requirements I have to meet (VSS 3.0 or MOSS Standard / Enterprise) in order to do it.

I am speculating whether I need to setup two separate web-servers with each own Sharepoint installation (and Business Connector Proxy)

Thanks in advance

SharePoint 2007 Enterprise Search Scope Question

Hello,

I have configured different search scopes to point to different search contents on my MOSS server and had them displayed on cope dropdown menu.  Everything is working great but with one issue; the selected scope from the default Search page does not stick on the Result page.

For example, I have three scope choices available on my scope dropdown menu: scope1, scope2, and scope3.  For this particular scope Display Group, I have selected "scope1" to be the default.  So when I go to the main Search page, "scope1" is shown as the default choice on the scope dropdown menu.  If I select another scope from the dropdown menu (e.g., scope2) and perform a search, it takes me to the Result page showing the result of the search and also shows what I typed in in the search text box.  The problem is that although I selected "scope2" on the original page's dropdown menu, the result page's dropdown menu shows "scope1" which is the default choice and not what I selected on the original page.  This behavior is confusing to my end users who want to refine their search from the Result page but then they have to re-select "scope2" from the dropdown menu.

My question is, is there a way for me to make the selected scope choice from the original page to stick on the Result page's s

Using Enterprise Library Authentication & Authorization modules in SharePoint 2007

Hi,

I have ASP.NET application which is using Enterprise Libraries Authentication and Authorization modules to validate user credentials. User credentials are stored in custom database schema.

I have one SharePoint 2007 application. I would like to use forms based authentication mechanism to authenticate users in SharePoint application which will use the custom database used in ASP.NET application.

I would like to know how can I use above mentioned ASP.NET applications authentication mechanism in SharePoint 2007 application?

Thanks in Advance.

Upgrade/Migrate MOSS 2007 Wiki to SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Wiki

We've been running MOSS 2007 for a few years now and have built up a Wiki.

I am now investigating the migration to SharePoint 2010, I've used the database attach method to copy across our Intranet site collection to a development SharePoint 2010 install (this includes our Wiki).

This works except for an error under the "Recent Changes" heading and the new 2010 Enterprise Wiki features are not available.

What I'm trying to find out is if there is a way to either upgrade the Wiki sub-site or migrate the Wiki data into a new 2010 Wiki sub-site that I can swap for the live one.

I've tried to just copy the items from the "Wiki Pages" list of the imported sub-site to the "Pages" list of a new 2010 Wiki sub-site, but they then just appear as "ASP.Net pages" and don't display the Wiki content.

I've also tried a couple of the commercial migration tools but these also just seem to copy the aspx files and leave them not viewable.

Thanks in advance

Paul

The knowledge worker is greatly empowered if she is able to access information across the enterprise from a central access point. With the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Search Service you can catalogue information stored in Exchange public folders, on the Web, in the file system, and even in Lotus Notes databases. This article discusses the use of ActiveX Data Objects and the Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol for creating search solutions based on SharePoint Portal Server 2001.

Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise on Windows7

Hello we just installed Sharepoint 2010 Foundation on Windows 7 great! and plan on using this configuration for to get our feet wet and now want to start planning for a configuring that will allow to utilize Excel Services and Data Warehouse capabilities and it appears that we will probably need to use the  Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise version based on this comparison chart: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/Pages/Editions-Comparison.aspx so what we're wondering is will we be able to load the Enterprise version on Windows7? or will we need to install Windows Server 2008 on our machine first and then load the TechNet Enterprised version? or will there be inherent problems  in that approach based on the fact that we are using a desktop and not a real "server" machine? Thanks very much, got my fingers crossed!  BobK

SharePoint 2010 Product Key to use upon installation Enterprise vs Internet

We are building a public facing SharePoint 2010 instance. Now of course we have to get the correct licences for public access and such, which we have done, but we have 2 licence keys one for "Enterprise" and one for "internet". What is the basic difference between using the "Enterprise" key VS the "internet" key? The install process asks for a product key, but does not give up any hints as to which key should be used for what purpose. When installing SharePoint 2010 for our public facing sites which Product key do we use? On the face of it you would think that the the "internet" key should be used because of the public facing requirement, but would that give you all of the other services (e.g., excel, infopath, visio, etc..) that the "Enterprise" key (Licence) provides? If you install with one key and realize after the fact that you needed to install with the other key can it be easily changed or is a re-install of SharePoint 2010 needed? Any assistance would be most appreciated    MatteoMatteo

Hi all, I'm new to infopath forms and i dont find much articles to develop enterprise application (I'm coding for an ERP module). I have sys environement of MOSS 2007, windows 2008 (64 bit), MS SQL 2008  Though it is easy to design and publish form to a site,  devloping the form with more business rules and validation seems to be vague for me.
