Edit in Datasheet view does not work on one SharePoint 2007 farm, works on another.

The ability to edit in datasheet view on one of our environments no longer works.  I've tried different client machines on different builds and regardless of the install every library, list, etc. when attempting to edit in datasheet view shows as read only.  Our other environments those systems work as intended with those same clients. I've searched all over and haven't found anything that helped.  Any ideas?

No permission to open a list pages in Sharepoint Designer 2007

We have a sharepoint site with two main lists.

List 1: I could open the pages, make changes BUT cannot create workflows (for the site).
List 2: I could not even open it. I get the message
"You do not have permission to do this operation. Ask your web site administrator to change your permission and try again, or log on with user account that has this permission ...."

I am secondary server administrator and also have 'full control' of the site.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Reg: Does Custom site definition created in SharePoint 2007 works in Sharepoint 2010

If No, what has to be done to make it work on 2010.

Word 2007 documents won't open from Sharepoint Services site

I have a Sharepoint Services 3.0 site that contains shared documents, Word, Excel, PDF, etc.  I cannot open Word documents directly from the shared documents portal.  Other file types like Excel adn PDF open fine.  It's only Word that has the issue.  I'm using Word 2007 and it doesn't matter if it is a .docx or a .doc, both act the same.  Word tries tro open, then just sits there....no error message or anything.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unable to open an Excel File in Sharepoint MOSS 2007

I am unable to open an excel file in Sharepoint (MOSS 2007). All other documents work fine. As far as I know there was no change on the Server at all.

Excel found unreadable content in 'stuff.xls'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workgroup? If you trust the source of this workbook , click Yes

When I click YES >> It says "Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may have been lost." And then a link to an xml file , which reads :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <recoveryLog xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main">
  <summary>Errors were detected in file 'http://server_name/Project_name/Shared Documents/abc - def/Phase 5/Track/stuff.xls'</summary>
- <additionalInfo>
<info>Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may have been lost.</info>

Now this has resulted in huge loss of data and I can see New numbers in the cells which is very strange!

Is there a way I can get it back ? I do not have a

Moving Sharepoint 2007 from Virtual Server 2005 to Hyper-V

I'm a little unsure of the exact sequence to move my Sharepoint 2007 Virtual server from VS2005 to Hyper-V.  In my enviroment, my sharepoint machine and SQL machine are on 2 different boxes.  SQL 2005 is on Hyper-V and Sharepoint is on Virtual Server 2005.  Do I shutdown the SQL VM before I move Sharepoint???   Will the new VM and SQL sync back up without any help??

Also, what happens to the SQL database if the new Sharepoint VM (on Hyper-V) has issues or problems??  Does that make my SQL server

out of sync with my old Sharepoint VM???  I have done multiple moves between VS2005 and Hyper-V so I really familiar with the process.

I usually keep the old VM around for a while after moving just in case there is a problem.   I can always blow away the new VM and crank up the old.   Viola!  I'm back to square one.

Any ideas??

All documents open as Read Only in Office 2010 from SharePoint 2007

I have recently installed Office 2010 and now when I select "Edit in Microsoft Word" from a SharePoint document library, the document will only open as Read Only.  I am running SharePoint 2007 SP1, I have admin rights to the workstation, server, sharepoint list and document.

I have tried the registry entry " OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing = 1 " but that has made no difference.  I have also run webfldrs.msi with no effect.  The website is a trusted site and I have switched off all of the protected view options.

Any help welcome!

Cannot open a page with 2 webparts connected after migration from Sharepoint 2007 - bug identified

Hi all,
I'm following a migration project from Sharepoint 2007 to Sharepoint 2010 (with August's Cumulative Update). I'm using the attach databases approach.

On Sharepoint 2010, when I try to open the default.aspx page of a Sharepoint Website containing 2 webpart connected I receive "An unexpected error has occurred" message.

The 2 webparts are standard Sharepoint webpart, a Text Filter WP that sends the value to Business Data List WP

Using the Correlation ID in Sharepoint Log we can see these two interesting lines:

SharePoint 2007 Windows 2003 virtual machine on 64bit

On my old labtop (windows xp) I was using a SharePoint 2007 + Windows 2003 virtual machine (vhd)

(I was using the free Microsoft Virtual PC to use it) .But my labtop was very slow so I bought a new machine which has Windows 7 professional 64 bit.So how could I use my old vhd? I heard Virtual pc doesn't work on 64 bit windows.

After some search in google I read about VMWare Server which is free.I read v1 is better than v2.But I have no idea about it and didn't use it before is it safe?

I am too late but i will never give up

The trust relationship between SharePoint 2007 Server and Domain Controller failed after virtual ima

I failed to login to my SharePoint Server 2007 since the virtual image is cloned. The trust relationship between the MOSS and DC failed since the duplication of SID occurred. I tried to unjoin and re-join the Windows Server 2008 but the server just stays at "Applying Computer Setting..." after server reboot.

Thank you for your advice in advance!

How to fix the trust relationship between the SharePoint Server(Windows Server 2008) and DC (Windows Server 2003)?

Virtual Directory - open without SharePoint

I have a SharePoint 2007 site running under 64 bit Windows 2008 R2.  The sharepoint works fine.  I can even open the libraries as web folders (webdav) without any issues.  I have created a virtual directory in IIS that points to a directory on the server.  Whenever I try to open the virtual directory (https://my.server.com/dir) as a webfolder, I get the SharePoint home web folder instead (https://my.server.com).  I have been able to open subordinate SharePoint web folders without any issues (https://my.server.com/MPD/Shared%20Documents).  It appears that SharePoint is intercepting my request for https://my.server.com/dir.  According to documentation, SharePoint should ignore any non-SP directories in IIS.  In previous versions we could exclude specific directories from being SharePoint managed, but not in 2007 or later.

I have followed all of the directions to configure the virtual directory in IIS to use WebDAV.

This is the code I use for the page to open the virtual directory.

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible

SharePoint 2007 Workflows - Things to Consider Before You Start

SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) utilizes the Workflow Foundation (WF) to enable workflows on lists and content types. But before you start doing cartwheels there are few things you should know before you get started. The experiences I'll be discussing are not from book smarts but from building real MOSS solutions that are in production today.

Writing Custom Web Parts for SharePoint 2007

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, SharePoint 2007 is built on top of ASP.NET 2.0, which means you can now use ASP.NET 2.0 features (Forms Authentication, Master Pages, Membership, Site Navigation, New Data Controls, etc) when building SharePoint sites. This is true for both the new Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 version (which will be a free download) as well as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (which costs money).

SharePoint and Open XML: Generating Documents from SharePoint Using Open XML Content Controls

This article describes how to generate documents that contain data stored in SharePoint lists. The example demonstrates how OpenXML content controls can be defined to capture list data in a Word document and how LINQ to XML can be used to query the lists. The documents are generated from a SharePoint Web Part.
