Design Tips for a strange site?

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have been tasked to create  site for our trainers to upload items into their “portfolio”

Only the individual trainer, and the supervisors should have access to the individuals material.

I was thinking of doing a separate library and page for each individual trainer as to keep permissions simple.

Can anyone think of anything that might make a more effective site for this design?

Master Pages: Master Your Site Design with Visual Inheritance and Page Templates

Master pages in ASP.NET 2.0 solve a problem many Web developers have been solving on their own with a variety of techniques for years - providing a single master template for an entire site. This article covers the details of master pages, discussing their usage and implementation and how they are a natural evolution of custom techniques developers are using today.

Editing Site Design While Live.

I am looking for a tutorial or more information on creating a Templating system to allow a user to edit the template of a ASP.Net website, Such as creating his or her own 'Skin'.

It would be great if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Multiple Sharepoint site design

Hello All,

My company uses standard license MOSS2007 in our corporate network. There is another network “production” that corporate users do not have access to.

I would like to create an additional site in production network using my existing standard license. The purpose if this is to limit corporate users access or even to see the site.

Is that possible? I don’t have a deep knowledge of a SharePoint so forgive my lingo and please provide details when responding.

Is there anyway to know the absolute path for site root i design time?

Hi there,

I have an user control that reads the data from app_data folder and does some processing.

In design time I'd like to show the row data in control placeholder (using GetDesignTimeHtml).

To do that I need to figure out the absolute path to app_data folder on my project.

The HttpContext is not available and HostingEnvironment.MapPath returns null.

Is there anyway to solve the problem?

Return My Site to it's original design

I need to return the My Sites section of my intranet back to the original "out of the box" design that came with the installation. In site actions under "Site Theme" I changed the site to a self-designed theme used on the main site, this theme didn't work (main links/picture omitted) and now can't change back. Under Select a Theme I only get the option I have. The "Reset to site definition" doesnt' bring back the original design and I've tried this in Designer aswell.
The only way I can see of fixing this is re-linking the original default.master and then making my changes.  But where can I get this code?

Best Practices For Making Responsive Design Look Nice on Your Site

Designing a website featuring a respective layout has become a necessity that is hard to ignore. In fact, after the release of Google's mobile-friendly algorithm the demand for responsive web design has increased to a great extent. But remember that, a responsive design is more than compressing and expanding. A correct respective web design is one that makes a website accessible on countless devices based on the width of the screen of the device.

Abstract Factory Design in C# , Vb.NET

Provide an interface for creating families of related or dependent objects without specifying their concrete classes

Prototype Design Pattern in C#. Vb.NET

Specify the kind of objects to create using a prototypical instance, and create new objects by copying this prototype

Adapter Design Pattern in C#, VB.NET

Convert the interface of a class into another interface clients expect. Adapter lets classes work together that couldn't otherwise because of incompatible interfaces.

Singleton Design Pattern in C#, Vb.NET

Ensure a class has only one instance and provide a global point of access to it.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Take a tour of your SharePoint site

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.
