SP2007 Area Navigation Settings - Any Change cause an Unknown Error

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

We have an issue with SP2007, when we modify the navigation for one subsite and attempt to save the changes by clicking ok we get an 'Error' page with a description of Unknown Error.

All we are changing is either the order or deleting a heading with a URL attached.

Saving the changes takes roughly 5 minutes to complete and is not immediate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Unknown error when trying to modify navigation

How to reproduce?

(- create a publishing site)
- create two pages
- create a heading and move a page under this heading
- delete the page that was under the heading
- now receiving "unkown error" when trying to change navigation

I was able to solve this by restoring the page, but what can I do if this isn't possible anymore?

LDAP Problem with .NET - Unknown error (0x80005000)

I am trying to create a proof of concept to show how to connect to an LDAP
server and how to search for values but I do not get anywhere. Here is what I
have so far:

Dim objEntry As DirectoryEntry
Dim objSearcher As DirectorySearcher

objEntry = New DirectoryEntry("ldap://www.openldap.com/dc=OpenLDAP,dc=org",
Nothing, Nothing, AuthenticationTypes.Anonymous)

objSearcher = New DirectorySearcher(objEntry, "(ou=People)")
objSearchResult = objSearcher.FindOne()

If Not objSearchResult Is Nothing Then
'Do something
End If

Catch ex As Exception

result.Text = ex.Message & vbNewLine & ex.Source

End Try

My code fails at the line:
objSearchResult = objSearcher.FindOne()

with the unhelpfu error of Unknown error (0x80005000)

As you can see I use the www.openldap.com directory and I can connect
anonymously using the Softeerra LDAP Browser 2.5

Any help would be greatly appreciated

PS: I know there is already a similar thread (http://forums.asp.net/thread/1028020.aspx) but none of the suggeste

Specific Error Handler for Area Controllers

I have an area named CMS on my MVC3 Preview 1 application.

Is it possible to have an error view inside the CMS area to display only errors that occurred on the controllers under the CMS area?

Basically I want the errors inside the area to be handled by a different controller than the errors on the "application root".

Trying to move FK links from list as columns to my navigation area.

I'm using vs2010, EF. I have a left column simular to a navigation area and I'm trying to figure out a way to display the FK links that appear at the end of a list as columns, in my navigation area.  One thought was to place a duplicate table in the navigation area and hide all the columns except for the FK links. Is there an easier way to accomplish this.

Thanks, Jeff

How to change the value of a foreign key field/navigation property?

How can I change the value of a foreign key field?  E.g. in the Product list view instead of the value of the field Supplier.CompanyName I want to display the Supplier.Region. I searched my whole code to get a clue, googled for "change navigation property" and looked in the docs but unfortunately I did not find any hint. If you know where to find the answer, please let me know too the source of your knowledge!

Change Regional Settings

I need to change regional settings on SharePoint so that the date format is not mm/dd/yyyy but dd/mm/yyyy.I have seen that this can take place if i go to Home site->Site Settings->Regional Settings and change the locale from there. All are perfect up to here. Since i need this change to take effect on subsites as well I check the "All sub-sites inherit these Regional Settings". After Pressing ok, i get an error message "Please turn off all indexed columns before changing the collation of this site. One or more list or library contains a column that has been marked for indexing. ..."How can i stop this indexing temporary? i tried to stop the indexing service from service administration but this didn't work.After applying this change, i hope my dates will not be lost, correct (this is the production server.....)? Will i have any problem with the search? Do i need further actions?a.rongas

Configure incoming e-mail settings - Error File Not Found?

Hello I am trying to setup a test server for SharePoint 2010 and I have followed the MS instructions for deploying a single SharePoint 2010 server with SQL server. I have had no problems or errors during the setup; however now going through the recomended post installation task of configuring incoming email settings I am getting an error message. Correlation ID: cc08f335-6762-4c70-a690-ecfd012ec3c2 I have no idea what is causing this so have no way to resolve it, any help would be really appreciated.   Thanks

Modifying Customizing EditForm.aspx of Doc lib breaks Upload function - Unknown Error

Part of a bigger design issue really. But does anybody know why customizing EditForm.aspx of a Doc lib breaks the Upload function? and how to fix it so it does not. My version of the editform works great, but after an upload I get Unknown Error the resulting url looks like this: https://xxxxx.edu/sites/xxxx/_layouts/Upload.aspx?List=%7b0404432B-91A3-4E18-9202-5954E3A7E0D2%7d&RootFolder=%2fsites%2fmcpharm%2ftest3&Source=https%3a%2f%2fxxxxx.edu%2fsites%2fmcpharm%2ftest3%2fForms%2fAllItems.aspx --- The bigger design issue - disregard if you like: That said, the bigger design issue is we are trying to relate one list row to many documents, but don't want to seperate the docs into seperate folders and would like the solutoin to be seamless. We are going to add a look up from the doc lib to the list, but did not want to use anythng but the List's ID column. However, we do not want users to have to manually look up List row IDs in that form, and we did not want to use a list column that can be edited, even if we can add a unique column policy. My design and thinking is to build a few custom pages with dataviews to show row level details in both lists (1 to many) and a dataview to drive list level functions like edit, delete and upload docs. I think all the pieces are there except for the less than graceful upload function that fist uploads the file and then asks the

"Unknown error" when adding link to My Links

When I click "Add to my Links" I get an unknown error, but only with some users. "Manage Links" works, mind you. But I still can't figure out what differs between those users... any suggestions?(People in this thread have a somewhat similar error, but with "Manage Links" instead of "Add to my Links".)

Unknown error trying to lock file

Hi This error may have been reported in the forum before. If so I apologise for asking again, but I just can't find any reference to it (or any solution).This is using IE7, Vista Business 64bit, Word 2007To summerise: (step by step)1. We log into Sharepoint (from remote locations)2. We locate the list containing items with attached documents3. Selecting the document gives the "harmful..." message4. Microsoft Word loads up with a certificate warning (which we accept)5. We then are prompted to log in a second time.6. It then prompts with a certificate ("Select Certificate") dialog. (We select OK 3 times)7. Word opens the document in Reader view8. Document reports "Server document" at the top of the screen next to the "Edit Document" option.9. Choose "Edit Document"10. and we get "Unknown Error trying to lock file".The same sequence of events using Windows XP has no problems.Switching back to XP is not an option.Various threads scattered through the internet talk of various solutions from port numbers to running Word in XP sp2 compatible mode. None of these solve the problem. Can someone give me some indication of what is going wrong here. I'm not completely up to speed with sharepoint, but if you ask the questions, I'll dig out the answers.Best regardsRobert
