Lost access to Central Administration Page

After trying to troubleshoot why all the e-mail alerts stopped working, I ran the best practices analayzer and ran the commands it suggested the paragraph below. "The same account that you use to run SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration must be configured as the SharePoint Timer Service. If they are not the same, the system may not be able to send Alert Notifications and you will not be able to add a content database to a web application using the Manage Content Databases page. Although there are built in mechanisms to keep these accounts synchronized, it is possible to manually change the SharePoint Timer Service account. If the account that you are using to run SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration is the correct account, you can log on to the Web server where the SharePoint Timer Service running as the wrong account. From a command prompt change to the directory where the SharePoint Timer Service is running, this is typically C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN, and run the command: stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -identitytype configurableid -userlogin domain\account -password password. Although you could directly update the SharePoint Time Server account by opening Administrative Tools, Component Services, you should use this approach only as a last resort. To avoid inconsistencies between the

MOSS 2007 - 64-bit SP2 Upgrade Breaks Central Administration and doesn't complete

I am setting up a test Intranet Farm for a production Intranet. Everything is being installed on one server. SQL 2005 enterprise 64-bit edition is being used and has been upgraded to SP3. MOSS 2007 with SP1 64-bit edition was used to installed SharePoint and the central administration website installs successfully. I then downloaded WSS 3 SP2 64-bit edition and carried out the installation. As it is a Windows 2008 server with SP2, I use the 'run as administrator', just in-case, even though I am logged on as a local administrator.

The SharePoint Configuration wizard is run post-installation and access to the Central admin website is still available. I am restoring the Farm config for the production Intranet to this test Farm using the in-built backup feature of MOSS 2007 and I am using the GUI. As the production farm has MOSS 2007 SP2, I need to also install that update. I download the MOSS 2007 64-bit update and towards the end of the installation (prior to the configuration wizard appearing) an error occurs stating that the Installation of the Package failed, which appears in a prompt box and a box appears in front with regards to whether a report should be sent.

Central admin then has a 'this page cannot be displayed'.

Central Administration returns blank page after installation on Windows 7

Hi, I have successfully installed SharePoint 2010 on Windows 7.  However when I browse to Central Administration, I just get a blank page.  I have been able to create a new web application and teamwork site using PowerShell, and that site also returns a blank page.  In the IIS log, I can see that the requests produce a 500 error.  Rerunning the Configuration Wizard has not helped.  Other ASP.NET sites run ok.

Any suggestions?

Want to create Page URL rewrite based on Users GUID and Display name?

hi,

I am using the asp.net membership.

On my site I have a Profile.aspx page.

In the code behind of this page,  i get the logged in UserId (Guid) and pass

this to a method in my DAL. GetUserByUserId()

In my database I have a Table called Member which the method gets the data from

and displays details on the page about  the user.

What I want to happen is when they have logged in and are diverted to Profile.aspx,

the page URL shows www.MyWebSite/Profile/UsersName

for example

www.MyWebsite/Profile/JohnSmith.aspx

is this possible. In my Member table I have FirstName and LastName columns or do I get the

name from the membership table.

even better would be they go straight to www.MyWebsite/JohnSmith.aspx

thank you for any help

Turning off Crawling the Central Administration site?

There are 2 places that "Search Visibility" can be set on WSS3 servers:

Default > Site Settings > Search Visibility

Central Administration > Site Settings > Search Visibility

What are the ramifications of "hiding" the Central Administration site from search?

How to create a single entry page for site collections in MOSS 2007

Hi,

I have  7 site collections containing a few hundred team collaboration sites. Some users are internal (intranet) but most are external (extranet). Extranet users are experiencing problems with losing links to their sites and forgetting which URLs to use. So I would like to create a single entry page that all users can enter after the logon process, which shows a list of sites they have permission to access, and other user-specific information. Perhaps relevant documents, tasks, recently modified documents etc.

I know this sounds like a 'My Site' but we want to use use a general welcome page instead. We use Windows authentication.
What is the best way of doing this and is it something that can be done in SharePoing Designer or does it need to be done in Visual Studio?

Many thanks in advance.

Customizing Search Results page in MOSS

Hello!

The Search Results page in MOSS seems to list the results as links by default. My customer asked me if I could customize the search results so that they show in a data view web part. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Can Web Services be blocked by Central administration ?

I am a Site Collection administrator. I am thinking of using Web Services (_vti_bin/Lists.asmx etc.,) and display some data regarding Lists, Permissions, SubSites on some pages. My question is whether accessing these web services at site level can be blocked by central administration or not. If they cannot be blocked, then I would like to go forward on what I have mentioned above. Can anyone please clarify. Thanks.

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

Failed to change Farm Account in Sharepoint 2010 server, now Central Administration is not accessibl

I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Form input to output as a link on the display page (need help please)

I have a form, the form works great and displays the information perfectly on a designated display page I have set up from its database.  One problem, I want to display it as a link to the site instead of how it is now, just plain text. Thus the user would put in the text box the site and hit submit and the site would appear of the display page.  Can anyone please assist me on this, and where to drop the hyperlink control? in the form page? or in the display page?    Below is my form code page:     <p><strong><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">International Access Entry      Form</font></strong></p><p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Please enter information      international contact information below. Claims to windows token service wont start in Central administration

Not sure if this is a bug or some setting I just dont understand but I cannot get the claims to windows token service from manage services to show as started. When I click start I get this error in the event viewer: An attempt to start/stop instance of service Claims to Windows Token Service on server <SERVERNAME> did not succeed. Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server. Additional information is below. c2wts (DOMAIN\sp_farm) I have searched and searched for an answer. This thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/6b865ead-970b-4460-9dcf-1cc6d6d8530b talks about needing a connection to the internet, but my server is connected to the internet so i think i can rule that out. Also I have read that c2wts depends on the crypto service. I have run this command with no success: sc config c2wts depend= cryptsvc I can start the c2wts service through services.msc and it is succesful. But central administration still shows it is stopped. I have also re-run the installer in repair mode, and re-run the initial configuration wizard, maintaining all of the same settings as the previous installation. That didn't help. Basically, I'm out of ideas and I cant find much about this on the web. Any ideas?

Central Administration Could not retrieve ISAPI filters

I am having trouble with CA. When I try to open it errors pops up in event viewer  - Could not load all ISAPI filters for site 'SHAREPOINT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION V3'.  Therefore site startup aborted. - The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed.
