Custom Permission level not working properly

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hi All,

[WSS3]

I've created a new permission level for users to be able to contribute without deletion.

I've copied everything from the OOTB contributer permission level and unchecked the Delete items option.

When a user (who has the new permisson level) tried to chagne a property of the filename, he got an access denied page. It was solved only when I checked the Delete Item option in the new permission level (before that I've checled all options available but teh Delete item one).

Any thoughts on this strange behavior?

Thanks a lot in advance

Item level permission for Custom List in sharepoint

Hi all,

I have created a custom list with work flow associated with that. The workflow takes the item through different levels of approval.

My workflow scenario is like Say an initiator add an item, which will go to manager for approval. When the manager approves, few columns in the current list will get updated. On manager approval it will be forwarded to head of department. Again when the Dept head takes an action, the column values of the list get updated. For all these users i have set Contribute permission. But the problem is that an item started by an initiator should not be editable or deleted by other users using the pull down menu that appears for each item. Only the owner of the item and manager should have permission to edit it using the pull down menu. When i tried changing the edit access for the item through Advance settings-->Item level permission --Edit access being set to "Only their own" while manager or dept head approving i get an access denied error message.

Can any one please suggest me what is the work around for this?

SharePoint Designer: insert custom list not working anymore

Hello,

Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.

It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).

Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they say.

I also tried the solutions listed here: http://blogs.msdn.com/spdsupport/archive/2008/07/03/how-to-fix-custom-list-forms-will-not-insert-or-show-up-on-the-design-surface-of-sharepoint-designer.aspx
But they don't fix the problem.

So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.

Discussion board template of SharePoint 2007 not working properly

Use case 1 – Discussion board to suggest change to documents

User adds a suggestion. The discussion board needs fields like module name, document name, section name and reason for a change etc.

Problem 1 – When I try to add fields to the discussion board – When a user wants to post a reply to a suggestion, user screen shows the new item form and all fields instead of just a reply or comment field. Need help how can I ensue user only sees reply or comment field?

Problem 2 – If I make these changes in the discussion board template through SharePoint designer 2007 and later if we plan to upgrade to SP 2010. Do I have to redo the changes I did on old discussion board or will upgrade take care of migration of the changes to new discussion board template available with SP 2010?

 Thanks,

Pari

Web Part working fine on the top-level page but 'Not Safe' error on lower-level pages.

Hi,

I have created a Web Part which reads and parses the SharePoint logs in order to display usage information of the page it resides on.  The Web Part works perfectly on the top page, reading and displaying the information desired.  However, once the Web Part is added to any page lower in the site heirarchy (sub-page) the same Web Part throws the following error:

Error

Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type could not be found or it is not registered as safe.

Of course the current version of the Web Part is in the SafeControls list on the web.config.

The Web Part was originally designed to return site activity only for the top default.aspx page and worked fine but started to fail in the manner described above once I added the following line of code to return a SPCo

user permission in granula level in SharePoint version 2

Hi, everyone:   I am administrator of a SharePoint v2 site. I found that I can either give "view item" or "view item, insert item, remove item and update item" permission to users, no middle. However, I do wish to give some users "view, edit" permission, but no "insert and remove item" permission.   So, does SharePoint v2 support this in out of box feature? if yes, how to make it, if no how can we achieve in easiest way?   Thank u MySTfrom Finland :D

Cannot get the right permission for a Custom Assembly

Has anyone managed to deploy a custom assembly that involves calls to System.Data.SqlClient and System.Configuration (to get the connection string for the database)? I've been fighting this one for a day or two and know that the answer means finding the right mix of asserting permissions in the assembly and granting them in config files. It seems that MS have tied down the security aspects of this so as to make the facility almost unusable! I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64, SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express) and Visual Studio 2010 for development. Yet the documentation is sparse - to say the least. Does anyone know of a document that will tell me what to do?

Check In / Check Out not working properly

At various points during the day, I check back in the master and CSS files I've been working on.  However, it doesn't show them as checked in ... they are still flagged with green check in SP Designer.   And what is more confusing, sometimes I can't save anything because it says that it is checked out.  But I'm the one who checked it out.  And it thinks it is checked in.  So I try to check it out again, and it won't let me check it out. The only way I got around this yesterday was to rename the master file.  Then rename it back to it's original name. Suggestions?

Custom actions and URL tokens when working with the Ribbon

I'm trying to add a new item to the Ribbon using a custom action in a VS SP2010 project. The new action shows up where we want it but the problem we are facing is that tokens like {ItemId} or {SelectedItemId} are not parsed when used in the CommandAction attribute. I would like to use these tokens and construct a URL pointing to an application page we've created. In the same way one can do using UrlAction when adding custom actions to the ECB menu (this is working fine in our project). The custom action below simply prints out different tokens. When run it seems like the tokens {SiteUrl},{SelectedListId} and {SelectedItemId}are parsed but for me both SelectedListId and SelectedItemId are null. Are there any other tokens that can be user or is there a better way to get hold of the item and list for the context? <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/"> <CustomAction Id="{1f2da003-2069-4d4a-8fc5-1deeb98ecdda}" Location="CommandUI.Ribbon" Sequence="20"> <CommandUIExtension> <CommandUIDefinitions> <CommandUIDefinition Location="Ribbon.ListForm.Display.Manage.Controls._children"> <Button Id="{ca157255-5ef3-4f1c-bcb6-6ff5ff7610fe}" Command="{7887e42e-

AsyncPattern is not working properly.

Hi all I have a WCF service which has two methods. [ ServiceContract]   public interface IAsyncInterface { [ OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)]   void Submit(CurrentJob currentJob); [ OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)]   void Execute(AsyncExecInstance exec, AsyncRequest request);       ///Async Call [ OperationContract(IsOneWay = true,AsyncPattern=true)]   IAsyncResult BeginSubmit(CurrentJob currentJob, AsyncCallback callback, object state);   void EndSubmit(IAsyncResult ar); [ OperationContract(IsOneWay = true,AsyncPattern=true)]   IAsyncResult BeginExecute(AsyncExecInstance exec, AsyncRequest request, AsyncCallback callback, object state);   void EndExecute(IAsyncResult ar); } My client is a windows service. i have 2 seperate threads for calling these 2 methods. So these 2 methods will be called parallelly. if i call this methods 15 times at a time all the 15 requests are giving to my WCF service. The first 8 requests are processing very fastly and i am getting result. after that the service is not at all responding. But the WCF service is still active. Some time though i submitted 15 request to service some of the requests are not processing. I set concurrency mode as multiple and MaxConcurrentCalls=50. That means it should handle 50 requests at the same time right? Can

Task scheduler and System.IO.File.WriteAllText() not working properly

I have a simple console application that has this in mainline:  Console.WriteLine(System.String.Format("the current directory is: {0}", System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory())); System.IO. File.WriteAllText(@"test.txt", "new contents");   Console.ReadLine(); I compile this in VS 2010 and copy the EXE to a directory named "c:\test".  When I run this code in two different OS's via "Task Scheduler" and "Scheduled Task" I get different results.   In Windows Server 2003 R2 "Scheduled Task" this code will create a file as I would expect, c:\test\test.txt with the proper contents written to it.  When I run this same code on Windows 2008 R2 (64 bit version) "Task Scheduler" it writes the expected contents to an unexpected location, c:\C:\Windows\SysWOW64\test.txt. In both environments if I run the exe's from a command line, it writes to c:\test\test.txt as I would expect. As I understand it, if you don't fully qualify the file name in the first parameter of the WriteAllText method it will write the contents to the file in the directory of the executable however this seems to break down when running in the Windows 2008 Task Scheduler.  I know I can fully qualify the file name or put the expected path in a

SSRS custom security extension behind a router fire wall not working

I have a instance of SSRS 2008 installed (we are not using IIS) with custom security extension which accepts a application user ID and password and sends back a sql authorization cookie back to client for logging into SSRS.  The (SSRS) server is behind a router,  SSRS is configured on port 81,  Port 81 in router if forwarded to the SSRS server. Here is the problem If I am inside the router firewall (RDP'ed to the machine) I am able to access report server (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/ReportServer) and reports manager (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/Reports) without any issues. If  am outside the firewall and try to go to report server page (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/ReportServer) from browser and try to login it works (I am getting the cookie back and authentication goes through fine).   But if I try to access reports manager (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/Reports) the login page shows up when I enter user ID and password and hit enter to authenticate it comes back to the login screen (I am not gettint the cookie back from SSRS). Any help is highly appreciated on how to debug /fix this issue. Note : if I first login to Reportserver (which sends the cookie back) and in the same session I login to Reports Manager I am able to get into Reports Manager page since I got the cookie when I logged in to reports server page already.  When I

Permission NON-Inheriting not working

I'm having two permission issues that must be simple but have me baffeled. 1. I want all users to have view access. I setup builtin\users in the visitors group and nothing happened.  I then added them to the members group. Now they have read, write, etc access. What am I missing. 2. I stopped inheriting on one sub site. It looks and feels like it has it's own permission management but and changes I make to the parent are reflected in the child and any changes I make in the child are reflected in the parent. Help! User Control Validation is not working properly

In my Website I have header control (header.ascx) and footer control (footer.ascx)In header.ascx one textbox and one button is there. Textbox meant for accepting search string. In footer.ascx one textbox and one button is there. Textbox meant for accepting Email-Id.Now in validation of header.ascx I had done blank checking by JavaScript. And in validation of footer.ascx  I had done blank-checking and e-mail checking by javascript. In both the control the textbox and the button both resides under Panel control whose DefaultButton property set to the respective button ids. So that if User write write something and press ENTER key from keyboard then it should do whatever respective Button_Clicks will do.Now My problem is suppose I place the mouse cursor in footer.ascx's textbox and press the ENTER key it validates properly but after that if I place the cursor inheader.ascx's textbox and press the ENTER then it is not working. Again If I do the opposite then also first one will fire but in case of second it is not firing .......

Retract custom master page feature and all site pages stop working

There is a requirement to apply custom branding on personal sites in a SP 2010 project. For this I have created a feature which uploads and applies the custom master page on creation of any new personal sites.   I have stapled this feature (using feature stapling concept) to the “SPSPERS” (personal site) site definition. The custom master page is displayed on the creation of new personal sites. On feature deactivation, I am looping through all the personal sites (as the feature is deployed on a team site) and pointing the master URL back to v4.master. But when I retract the solution and browse to the personal site, I am getting a “404 File not found” error.  But am able to view the settings page by typing the URL.   I activated the publishing features and looked at the master page applied to the personal site. It was pointing to v4.master.   Any help on this is appreciated. Regards, Neha
