Web Parts move on site restore

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have an issue with web parts jumping to the bottom most web part area of my page. I backed up the site then restored it on another site. Then upon checking the pages all web parts were not in their proper places. Is there a solution to this issue or did I just do something wrong in restoring the site. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.

cannot restore a site if it has been restored previously

Hi there, I just found out that if I have restored a site but then realized that I need to put it on a different URL, I can't add it anymore. Here's what happen ... We have 2 SP servers, the live one and the test one: - live --> sp.company.org - test --> sharepoint2010 The plan was to backup the site collection from the live one and restore it on the test server. The site in question called mysite and the current URL (on live server) is http://sp.company.org/sites/mysite Using SharePoint2010 Management Shell, I did: restore-spsite -identity http://sharepoint2010 -path c:\backup\mysite.bak And I realized that mysite was restored at the root of http://sharepoint2010 ... I thought it will re-create the path (/sites/mysite). So I delete that '/' collection and tried to restore it again to a different path. I ran: restore-spsite -identity http://sharepoint2010/sites/mysite -path c:\backup\mysite.bak --> note that the mysite part is a non-existent path to avoid using -force switch but then it gave an error: Restore-SPSite : The operation that you are attempting to perform cannot be completed successfully.  No content databases in the web application were available to store your site collection.  The existing content databases may have reached the maximum number of site collections, or be set to read-only, or be offline, or may already contain a copy of t

Move or Relocate Site(s)

Our developer built a site off of the Central Admin page, with the admin page located at: http://sp_server:8080/default.aspx and the main page of the site loacted at: http://sp_server:8080/Intranet/SitePages/Home.aspx. How do I disassociate the Central Admin page from the Main page, as well as change the port number to 80 for the main page? Thanks in advance. And yes. I'm a novice at these things. Tom

version dependency while backup restore of SharePoint 2007 Site Collections

hi all

I am aware of a version dependency on the stsadm -o backup/restore operation.

But will the same dependency exist for a content DB backup restore..

i.e. for example will we able to restore a content DB backup taken from a server with version say 12.0.0.7777 to a server with say 12.0.0.6666 assuming that the versions of SQL is the same in both cases.

Will the version difference in SQL create issues

Thanks in advance

Restore Site Collection on a Different Farm with Taxonomy Field

Hello,

I am trying to restore a site collection from my production environment into a staging environment (completely separate farm).  However, my site collection contains a Pages library which has a taxonomy field that points to a Managed Metadata Service term store in the production environment.  When the site collection is restored in the staging environment, the items in the Pages library have invalid content in the taxonomy field.  Ie. The values are there, but when I try and edit an item, the values in the picker are invalid.

I have imported the same term set in the term store in the staging environment but it still doesn't work.  I am assuming it is because all of the terms have different guids in each environment so the values are not 'synching' up properly...

Can I restore the Managed Metedata Service application from my production environment into my staging environment?  Or, am I going about this process in the wrong way entirely?

Thank you for any advice.

Amy

Move page in Site Content and Structure alters revision history and makes old content available

This sounds bizzare, I tried it on an OOTB publishing site.

I have a page X in site A. Page X has version 1.0 and 2.0 approved and published, no minor versions anywhere. I choose to move page X to site B. Page X now has revision history version 1.0 (published and available) and version 1.1, which is exactly the same as version 2.0 but no longer visible to the outside world.

So the first problem is that moving a page makes a previously published and overwritten version of the page content available again. If I publish the page it goes to version 2.0, but I have to remember to do this. Also because I approve the page, my user id is associated with the publication of the content (which is sorta ok) but the original author of version 2.0 has now presumably been lost to the ether ... or the green swirling icon of death.

But I don't publish page X because I think "oops I meant to move page Y" and move it back to site A, without first publishing version 1.1. Now I have version 0.1 and 0.2. 0.1 matches the original version 1.0, and version 0.2 matches the original version 2.0, however the best bit is that the timestamps are such that version 0.1 is now checked in after version 0.2.

I then publish the page, I now have version 0.1 and 1.0, where 0.1 matches the original version

MOSS 2010: how to move the "Search this site..." box to above the Nav Bar instead of on it

Am a novice, but can get around Sharepoint Designer. In MOSS 2010, how do I move the "Search this site..." box to above the Nav Bar instead of on it?

Restore using TSQL, how to determine the files to move/overwrite

There might be an easier way to perform it, if so, please advise.  I am looking for a scriptable solution (preferably TSQL).

I want to code a tsql procedure to restore a database from a backup file (.bak).  The procedure must allow to restore a backup from a database to a different database.

When performing it through the SSMS interface, I see all the files in the .bak file.  From there, I can associate the files in the backup to the appropriate files in my destination database.  when generating TSQL, this translates to MOVE statements for the files.

Can I translate the whole process in TSQL?  In order to know how to map my files, I must first gather the information on which files are present in my bak file.  Can one read the definition of the files contained in a backup file before performing the restore.  Preferably using TSQL?

backup and restore site collection

I'm just trying to move a site collection to a different server (to a virtual machine). I used the backup and restore feature in central administration but I'm not able to view the site on the new server. Is there some step I am missing during this migration?

Thank you
