SharePoint Designer slow connection to MOSS

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

My problem is that SharePoint Designer and IE has a very slow connection to my MOSS server.

I am running SharePoint Designer 2007 in Windows 7.

On the same machine, I have MOSS 2007 running on Windows server 2003 on Virtual PC 2007.

At work everything works fine. At home everything works but it's very slow.

I can access MOSS sites quickly with Chrome, Safari and Mozilla. But with IE and SharePoint Designer everything takes 30+ seconds to load.

I am open to any suggestions, and thanks for your time :)

How to Establish a Remote Web Site Connection in SharePoint Designer 2007

I am modifying a SharePoint site and so far so good.  Some of the objects were created using Visual Studio 2008 (C#).  I was able to modify these objects and implement them on the targete machine without issue.  The final step is to implement the ASPX pages that were modified using SharePoint Designer 2007.  These are aspx pages that are used to modify items in lists.  All the pages involved in this upgrade are customized.  I need to upgrade the target site with the modified version of these pages.  My intent is to copy the code from the page in the source site and past it into the same page on the target site.  I tried using the Remote Web Site connection tool in SharePoint Designer 2007 but received the following error message:

"Unable to open 'https://(site address)'.  Server Error:  Could not find a Web server at 'website'.  Please check to make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.  If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be temporarily out of service."

I am not sure how to first check to see if the Web Server is temporarily out of service.  I would appreciate your input on how to verify this.

Background information of target machine:  WinServer 2008, IIS 7, Sharepoint (MOSS2007), site on port 80

Using SharePoint Designer 2010 /w MOSS or WSS 3.0

Do any issues occur when using SharePoint Designer 2010 when connecting to a MOSS or Wss 3.0 site? I have also noticed, that FBA enabled WSS Sites will not connect using SPD 2010 (folder name is not valid), but will work with SharePoint Designer 2007 SP2 (Retail).  It is important to note the Retail version must be used, because the free SharePoint Designer 2007 will not connect to a FBA WSS 3.0 Site.  Keeping with the same free version SharePoint Designer 2010 this also holds true, it does not work. Since no FBA exists in SharePoint 2010, and it appears SharePoint Designer 2010 is not claims-aware, so that will not work either?  Does SharePoint Designer 2010 work with SharePoint Online? New product same old problems, taking steps backwards great to see.

MOSS 2007 - SharePoint Designer Workflow failing when using group vs individual user

I am creating a simple workflow in SharePoint designer that will email a selected user when a list is modified.  I am applying the condition "if modified by" in Designer.  This condition works fine and the email is sent when I select a specific user myDomain\username.  It does not work when I attempt to associate a SharePoint group with the "if modified by" filter. In my example the list has only one SharePoint group associated with it, this is the only group with permissions for the list.  The group contains multiple users. The workflow is successful with the following scenario: if modified by myDomain\user1 or if modified by myDomain\user2 The workflow fails with the follwoing scenario: if modified by mySharePointGroupName  (which includes myDomain\user1 and myDomain\user2) This would be an ungodly if statement with a large membership SharePoint group.  This would also be a nightmare as people leave the organization and their account credentials are left in the large if statement in the workflow.  Looking for the modified condition when associated with a group seems like the logical way of doing this. I also tried "myDomain\domain users" which accounts for all user in my domain, this failed as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to add a Database Connection on Sharepoint Designer 2007 to access SQL 2005 tables?

I've tried and looked on many sites with different solutions for which non of them resolved my issue. I've a blank Sharepoint site and want to view data from an SQL DB. It says that a Server Error occurred and that the Data Retrieval Service didn't worked out while listing the DB's.

I tried using the 3 methods... using the also the connection string in different ways... when I do it using VB, Office and Java... I can see the data from that DB... why on Sharepoint Designer it doesn't? It supposed to be more easier than other tools.

I'm really desperate. Any help is very welcome.

Configuring ODBC Database connection in Sharepoint Designer 2010

We are trying to connect the simple way from Sharepoint Designer 2010 to an external Pervasive SQL version 10 database.

Normally this is a trivial excercise in any other development tool, you supply an ODBC connection and away you go.

Using Sharepoint Designer 2010 (or the previous version) it is not possible to get a working connection that will get you past the "Configure Database Connection" dialog. We have to use the "Use custom connection string option" as that is the only place there appears to be a Provider for ODBC or OleDB.

No connection string works, I have tried connection strings that work fine in Visual Studio, no joy.

SharePoint custom list form using MOSS designer

I have a requirement to create "Service Request" form for 3 types of users namely "End Users", "Reviewer" and "Manager".
End users will submit the request --> Reviewer will update the effort in man day --> Manager will approve the SR form. Assuming there are 10 different fields for each and the workflow and email is in place for each level.

I'm planning to use SharePoint 2007 custom list form.

1) What is the best approach to create Service Request form?
2) Can I use SharePoint Designer alone to achieve this OR Do I need Visual studio?
3) Is it one custom list form containing all the 30 elements (10 fields each) OR 3 different lists?

Please advice. Thanks.

Due to some reasons, we don't want to take InfoPath form; Instead Custom List form.

Sharepoint Designer WCF Connection errors

When I type in a valid wsdl location for my wcf service such as http://nihrmacc36.ukcrn.leeds.ac.uk:8021/Service.svc?wsdl Sharepoint designer rejects this as being invalid and yet when I paste this into my browser it loads the wsdl fine.

Any ideas ?

Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list

I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

Thank you,

How can I implement this workflow scenario with SharePoint Designer?

I have a document content type and a library which contains this content type. here is what I want to do:

- when user creates a new document in this library, he will enter some user  names with people picker and then a message including some columns of the content type will be sent to that users. And then, at a certain date (lets say 1 day before a date that is one of the site columns) another email, a reminder will be sent.

I havent been able to find :

1- how can I replace a people picker field on workflow initiation form and how can I make it sent email to the user.

2- How can I make it sent a reminder email 1 day before the date that is stored in one of the columns of the content type(current item)

any help would be welcome,

SharePoint Designer: insert custom list not working anymore

Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.

It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).

Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they say.

I also tried the solutions listed here: http://blogs.msdn.com/spdsupport/archive/2008/07/03/how-to-fix-custom-list-forms-will-not-insert-or-show-up-on-the-design-surface-of-sharepoint-designer.aspx
But they don't fix the problem.

So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.
