Unable to add users into sharepoint if i am Using emails as account name in Active Directory.

Posted By:      Posted Date: May 22, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I am using moss 2007 version 12.0.0.6421. and Active directory version 6.0.. . my AD domain is siamint so if i add a user as vikas. it gets added in AD with logon name as vikas@siamint.com now if i add a user sahil@yahoo.com into ad. it gets added as sahil@yahoo.com@siamint. now when i try to add user from peoples and groups,site settings in a sharepoint site; i gets user siamint\sahil in people picker. rather it should be siamint\sahil@yahoo.com. it means the name is truncated from @. Is this a sharepoint error or what. Ultimately i think it means we cannot add users with @ in their usernames.

List Users from Active Directory

When i try to List the users from Active directory, i get this exception.

Error while processing.System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80072020): An operations error occurred at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_AdsObject() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindAll(Boolean findMoreThanOne) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindAll()

The code i used is :

DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry(_path);DirectorySearcher deSearch = new DirectorySearcher();

deSearch.SearchRoot =de;

deSearch.Filter = "(&(objectClass=user) (cn=" + UserName +"))";

SearchResultCollection results = deSearch.FindAll();

 But the DirectoyEntry method is getting validated if i use the overloaded method : DirectoryEntry(_path, domainAndUsername, password);

Please advice me.

Function retrieving users by country against (Active Directory) LDAP

Hello I've got such openquery SELECT * FROM Openquery(ADSI, 'SELECT EmployeeID, displayname, mailAddress, country FROM '' LDAP://MY-LDAP-PATH '' WHERE country=''coutry_code' '   ') country_code is 3 letters i think sth in format like USA, FRA etc I will need to retrieve users from up to 3 countries let say and i would like to create from this query above a stored procedure (or better a FUNCTION)  where someone calling a function can specify from which country does he/she wants to terieve users - when none country specified a function should retrieve users from all 3 let say. I'm not very advanced in programming in T-SQL yet so my question is -> can the variable be specified inside Openquery ? like for example SELECT * FROM Openquery(ADSI, 'SELECT EmployeeID, displayname, mailAddress, country FROM '' LDAP://MY-LDAP-PATH '' WHERE country=''@country' '   ') ACTIVE DIRECTORY HAS LIMITION OF RETRIEVING 1000 RECORDS AT ONCE - BUT NONE OF THESE COUNTRIES HAVE MORE THAN COUPLE HUNDREDS HOVWEVER summing them in one query this number of course will exceed 1000 recoreds so queries i think should be splitted and joined with union ??? Can anyone provide some example code of such function  The other problem i have is that openquery againt ADSI  above works correctly when i use SSMS localy on the server (connectin

Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

Unable to see Active Directory Groups in the User Profile Database after Profile Import

SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise RTM. W2K8R2 w/multi-server setup: AD/DNS SQL 2008 WFE APP Claims Mode Web App only using Windows Integrated Auth So, this was never a problem in 2007, and I didn't even realize it was a problem in 2010 until I started to build a solution that utilized my blog article: InfoPath - User Roles in Browser-Enabled Forms Using AD Groups.  I went to utilize the same web method of the same web service, but I noticed that no data was showing up at all.  Typically, the GetUserMembership/GetCommonMembership methods return the specified user's memberships: AD Security Groups, AD Distribution Lists, and SharePoint Sites (not SharePoint Groups, though). My user profile sync is working.  All AD users are pulled in with the proper profile data. "Users and Groups" is selected in the Synchronization Entities section of my Sync Settings. Security groups are working for permissions and audience targeting.  Confirmed my users are affected properly by the use of Security Groups. My query to the GetUserMemberships web method (and GetCommonMemberships) is running (not failing), but it's not returning anything even though my user is in some Security Groups and has explicit membership to multiple sites. The GetUserProfileByName method of the same UserProfileService.asmx web service returns all the regular profile data

HOWTO: Authenticate Active Directory account over VPN from C# client?

Hello,

I have some code that authenticates a user in Active Directory from a C# client but it does not work through a VPN connection, though it works just fine when I'm connected to the network.  How can I get this to work over a VPN?

These are the three functions I've used that ALL work, just not when I'm connected through a VPN.

FUNCTION 1:

        public static bool ValidateUser1(string strDomain, string strUsername, string strPassword)
        {
            try
            {
                DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + strDomain, strUsername, strPassword);
                object nativeObject = entry.NativeObject;
                return true;
            }
            catch (DirectoryServicesCOMException) { }

Small site embedded login validating against Active Directory and redrecting to SharePoint site

I am only finding pieces of this information.

Challenge: Have a standard page with a login box in the corner that is exposed on the web.  The login will validate an employee against AD and also redirect them to a site collection.

I have found information on claims based authentication and the AD Membership provider.  I have also found information on form based login pages.  Most of these examples though just modify the SharePoint form login.  I want to create just a small login box on a page that is already created.  The one thing that I can't seem to find any really solid information on is the redirect to a site collection.

Can anyone tie all of this together for me?  Am I using the correct terminology and heading down the right path.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Active Directory last name changed not updated in sharepoint service 3.0 sp2

Hello,

we have an active directory member where the last name has changed. However the change is not reflected in sharepoint services sites. When the user opens the sharepoint sites the old last name is displayed. When i look under the properties of the user in sharepoint the last name and the email-adress is still the old one.

How can i correct that?

people picker need to customize source of active directory users

Issue- setting the people picker to custom active directory OU

Scenario - The ad structure

Domain.com

     Company name(root)

      Department(OU)

                 General Users(OU)

                  Staff(OU)

Steps Taken

1)stsadm -o setsiteuseraccountdirectorypath -path "OU=STAFF,DC=domain,DC=com" -url http://domain.com

2)stsadm -o setproperty -url http://domain.com -pn peoplepicker-serviceaccountdirectorypaths -pv " OU=STAFF,DC=domain,DC=com "

 They  dont seem to have any effect on the people picker control as i can still get  all the users from all the different OUs.

I want to strict  it to the Staff OU.

IT seems really strange

In the Central admin > shared Services Providers> User Profile> Custom Source > I have set OU=STAFF,DC=domain, dc=com.

I found that the people picker is not connected to the user profiles.

:)

Any Idea Guys

Search in SharePoint 2010 does not show results for all users other than the timer service account

I have setup a new SharePoint 2010 setup. Created Search Service application and configured. Confirmed that the crawl went fine without any error for both Local site and a file share. In the Search application i confirmed that the All Site scope shows 3890 items.

ISSUE: If any of the user [including site collection administrator] browses the site and try to search something it does NOT show result [No error either it says We did not find any results for .....]. All Site scopes does not show 3890 items but only 28.

But if the timer service account [system account] logs in the site and does the search it works fine.With this account loggd in if i check the All Site scopes i do see 3890 items.

This does seems to be some thing to do with the permission, but i am not able to get hint where the mistake is.

I have done the follow till now.

> I checked the application association is correct
> Created a new web application and confirmed that the issue exists there as well
> Checked ULS log but dont see any error related to this.
> No relavent event id in Application event viewer

Please help

Changes in Active Directory not reflected in SharePoint user info

I have a client who uses WSS 3.0 w/ SP1, and does not want to move to MOSS 2007.  The client will be migrating to Exchange 2007 soon, and part of this migration will include populating attributes for the user objects in Active Directory so that the phone numbers, addresses, departments, etc are all stored in AD.  The problem is that the mojority of the user base has already used SharePoint, and when each user first used SharePoint, their info was imported from AD.  Is there a way to force an import so that all the user info in SharePoint will be updated based on what is in Active Directory?  Is it possible to do it in the reverse direction so that users can update their info in SharePoint, and have it write back to their AD user object?

Building Groups in Active Directory versus Using SharePoint Groups

Hi,

Can someone point me to an article or blog that discusses the pros and cons of setting groups (owner, full control, contributor, read only) in the Active Directory verus just connecting MOSS 2007 to the AD and building the groups directly in MOSS?  MOSS 2007 only.  Is there any functionality that is lost by building the groups in AD and adding people there rather than building groups in MOSS and adding people there?

Thanks!

Thanks! Patti N.
